Balboa Park and Coronado Island
2008-02-14 23:24:00 Nevermind that I forced them to meet me at seven am.Or that I had them climb through a tree that was displaying some monster root growth.Or even the fact that I told them, ever so boss-like, to "get in the damn ocean, I don't care if it's freezing!"None of that matters now because I think they look fabulous in the pictures, and really, what else matters? We started out in Balboa Park and ended up at the beach on Coronado Island. It was cold and almost unbearably overcast, but Laura and James were up for anything. Well, Laura was. I think James was being politely obedient. Here's a peek at our day:::Click on this picture to view full size, it almost screams for it. As my 13 year old cousin just said, "that picture is sick!" (translated for those of us in generation X--"that picture is totally rad!")I'm kind of jealous of this picture, how silly is that? I want to be Laura in this picture:::There are so many more. CLICK HERE for the slideshow. I used my current FAVORITE son...

Balboa Park
2007-08-30 15:34:00 Balboa Park is an urban cultural park in San Diego, California, United States. It is named after a Spanish explorer who first set eyes on the Pacific Ocean in 1513. Balboa Park is a National Historic Landmark which is managed and maintained by the City of San Diego Parks and Recreation Department. Balboa Park was founded in 1868. Its beauty owes much to the dedicated horticulturalist Kate Sessions who, in 1892, promised to plant trees throughout its 1200 acres in exchange for renting space for a nursery. In 1915 the park was the site of the city's Panama-Pacific Exposition, a world's fair celebrating the opening of the Panama Canal. Several of the Spanish Colonial-style pavilions built in that year survive along El Prado (the park's main street), and the animals gathered for the exhibition formed the nucleus from which San Diego Zoo has grown. Twenty years later the organizers of the California-Pacific International Exposition added more exhibition spaces around Pan-Americ...

Spending the Day at the Balboa Park in San Diego and Not Even Going to the
2007-05-22 01:19:00 SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: I have been to the San Diego Zoo on many occasions. Each time, I would promise myself that once I would spend an entire day at Balboa Park without going to the Zoo. That moment finally came about a few weekends ago. It was a sunny Sunday and it was dedicated in all its entirety to strolling the grounds, visiting museums, gardens, food, relaxation and enjoying life. We did not plan this visit in any special way. We did not even have a map of the park. It was to be spontaneous. Signs leading to the park are quite obvious even on the 5 freeway. We followed them and soon found ourselves on the grounds. There were a lot of visitors on this day but we still we managed to find convenient and free parking. A quick walk brought us to the main El Prado pedestrian walkway ...Rate and Review : Spending the Day at the Balboa Park in San Diego and Not Even Going to the Zoo
