Baptist Blood Bought Liberty!
2008-07-14 12:45:00 -By Don Boys, Ph.D. Down through the ages Baptists have been about the most hated and persecuted religious group because their distinctiveness made them a threat to religious tyrants. Baptists believe that salvation comes only through repenting of sin and placing faith in the sacrificial death of Christ. Works and godly living always follow salvation, but ...

Updating the Style at the Baptist Muse
2008-06-04 06:01:00 Many of you have probably noticed that I haven't been on the forum or commenting on the blog much this week. I am working on massively overhauling the style and file systems here at The Baptist Muse. The organization of this site is completing chaotic due to the fact that I really didn't know what I was doing when I got started. I am know trying to remedy that by revamping the theme and moving some files around. Starting tomorrow or Thursday, you will probably see some strange things here. By Saturday, I should have the updates complete and then be able to jump back into the swing of things. Thank you for all of your support!

About the Founder of The Baptist Muse
2008-05-28 06:01:00 I was raised in Amboy, IL, a small rural community in the northern part of the state. I was raised by my father as a single child until I was thirteen years old. It was during that time, that I received Christ as a young child at vacation Bible school at the First Baptist Church in Amboy, IL.I lived with my father only until I was thirteen because he was a very violent man. He was a very hard drinker and often succumbed to very violent fits of anger. He was abusive both mentally and physically. My childhood was anything but easy.Due to these difficult circumstances in my home, it was at that time that my Aunt and Uncle adopted me into their family. When that transaction took place, I gained two brothers and one sister. I also later found out that my mother remarried and had two daughters who I have yet to meet. From the time I was in the eighth grade until the time that I graduated high school, I had the privilege of attending small private schools. During my freshm...

Clifford Baptist Church to Calvary Baptist Church, Lovingston, Virginia
2008-05-21 22:55:00 Bill and Brenda visited with the Clifford Baptist Church's congregation in the evening and I was able to get on the internet thanks to Ms. Walkem and her son. In the morning I interviewed Ms. Walkem outside the church before we departed. Ms Walkem also gave Brenda a contact with Cavalry Babtist Church in Lovingston. There where some blind curves and a bridge which could have proven dangerus for Bill and Blackie along the route to Lovingston, and so local law enforcement waited for Bill near this location so that they could escort him. Meanwhile Brenda and I continued on to Calvary Baptist Church. This was a short day so there was no need for a rest stop. The panels where setup and we had settled down when Bill arrived. Later Captain Robertson, Lt. Cindrick, EMC Ray Gutero, and Trooper Derick Tyree stopped by. Larry and Dottie Davis, who are Brenda's relatives, drove from Henderson North Carolina, also came to visit. Later that evening Captain Robertson and Lt. Cindrick returned to...

John the Baptist Speaks
2008-05-04 13:16:00 I was reading in John 3 yesterday... and part of John the Baptist's words just stood out to me... and I thought I'd share them this morning with you. Check it out...John 3:31-35He [Jesus] has come from above and is greater than anyone else. I am of the earth, and my understanding is limited to the things of earth, but He has come from heaven. He tells what He has seen and heard, but how few believe what He tells them! Those who believe Him discover that God is true. For He is sent by God. He speaks God's words, for God's Spirit is upon Him without measure or limit. The Father loves His son, and He has given Him authority over everything. These words were spoken by John to his disciples, basically letting them know that it was all about Jesus.I think the most interesting portion of the passage is where John said "God's Spirit is upon Him without measure or limit." Wowzers! What an incredible place to be in.Come Holy Spirit and fill our lives!Quote for Today's BLOG:"Destitute of t...

Hip Hop 4 Prez: Baptist Minister to John McCain??Did You Call Your Wife a C
2008-05-03 03:21:00 This dude gets asked the craziest questions. Apparently a baptist minister asked John McCain whether he called his first wife a c#nt? This isn't the first time that McCain has been asked wild questions like this. Right before the Iowa Caucuses a white haired woman asked McCain "What are you going to do about the bitch," meaning Hillary Clinton. I am not sure whether this baptist minister was a plant or not. But I have heard talk from some Democratic pundits who are thinking about potentially trying to make a big deal out of the fact that McCain's first marriage ended badly. I don't know how that's strategic, but I do think McCain does have some skeletons in his closet that Dems will try to expose. Sorry that I couldn't come up with a more uplifting or righteous blog today. I am traveling. Shouts out to folks in Southern California.

Join The Team - Write At The Baptist Muse
2008-05-02 07:01:00 I proposed the idea of having guest bloggers for the first time two months ago. Initially, I had a great response. Several people volunteered to write articles here and every article received was an excellent piece of literature. Recently, however, very few people have been interested in this idea. This is my attempt to revitalize that idea. I would love to have a whole bunch of people who would be willing to write an article at certain intervals. Maybe you could write once or twice a month. Great! I would love to move this website away from a 'Nicholas Cardot' theme and more into a community theme. I want this website to be all about you. You don't have to be the best writer in the world. Be passionate. Be honest. Be real. We'll publish your work and give you the recognition you deserve! If you are reading this article ?Write For Us? , it?s probably because you are interested in writing for The Baptist Muse. Great! :) I would like to develop a team of writers, prea...

Those Hate-Mongering Baptist Preachers!
2008-04-23 07:01:00 I just recently read a wonderful article over at 'The Jungle Hut' entitled creatively 'A Rant.' This article is a must read so head over and check it out. Rita Vernoy, the author of that article, is a missionary to South America. She has faithfully and selflessly served to help the people there. She works with them, lives with them, prays with them, and does everything that she can to share the gospel with them. She truly is an unsung hero...unless of course you ask a secular liberal! She has received comments recently attacking her and making statements suggesting that she is destroying these people's tribal spirituality, that she is a hate-monger, or that she is a 'spiritual pollutant.'This is not the first time that I have heard people attacked for trying to share the gospel of Christ and I assure you that it will not be the last. As early as the book of acts, men have been attacked for preaching Christ. Can't you see Stephen standing there looking into heaven askin...

Tax Relief At The Baptist Muse
2008-04-08 08:00:00 Tax time is upon us. Here at The Baptist Muse, I understand the financial crunch that tax time imposes on our lives. That is exactly why I have decided to offer a little bit of green to the winner of my newest contest. In fact, I am going to give a ten dollar gift certificate to the store of your choosing to two different winners on Tuesday, April 15, 2008. You can consider that to be tax relief at the Baptist Muse. All right, here?s the rules. I will select two winners. One winner will be the individual who has accumulated the most raw points. 2008-03-01 16:07:00 Well, folks, on Wednesday, I overhauled the commenting system here at The Baptist Muse Blog to a new system called 'Intense Debate.' For the most part, this new commenting system is much sleeker, cooler, and easier to use than the blogger system that I was previously utilizing. Some of my faithful readers have, however, found a few bugs in the system. Actually, we have found one.If you use Internet Explorer, there is a good chance that the system will not let you comment anonymously from the main page. You can comment anonymously from one of the post pages, but not from the main page. You can also login to the Intense Debate system and you will be able to post from the main page which is actually an interesting option. The system is designed to track people's commenting, allowing them to grow in reputation as they leave more comments and as other people vote on the quality of their discussion. You will notice the little thumbs up and thumbs down at the side of each comment. ...

I invite you all to jump in and read some of the books that will begin showing up in this forum.According to the rules that I set up, we should spend the first three weeks in February selecting our book for March. Since, however, the month of February is almost over, I am going to select a book of interest to me (How self serving, right?) to get things started.Of course, next week we will begin the selection process for April's book. The Beheading of Saint John the Baptist
2008-02-03 11:01:00 PUVIS de CHAVANNES, Pierre-Cécile [1824 - 1898]The Beheading of Saint John the Baptist [about 1869]Oil on canvas 240 x 316.2 cmThe National Gallery, London Puvis de Chavannes was widely admired in his day for the grandeur and decorative subtlety of his large-scale, multi-figure compositions of allegorical subjects. But it was not always so.In 1852 and in the two following years Puvis's pictures were rejected by the Salon. The public laughed at his work as loudly as at that of Courbet but the young painter was none the less warmly defended by Théophile Gautier and Théodore de Banville. For nine years he was excluded from the Salons.Salome's features are thought to be based on those of the Princess Cantacuzène, who married Puvis de Chavannes in 1897.The figure of Herod standing on the right may be based on the novelist Anatole France. The cross which Saint John the Baptist holds as the executioner prepares to strike is the focus of the composition. The composition emphasises the Bapti...

2008-01-27 06:32:00 I am very pleased to announce the addition of another new segment on The Baptist Muse website: The Baptist Muse Topsites. The purpose of the Baptist Muse Topsites is not simply for me to track the number of hits and page views that websites get. The main purpose is to allow Christian web site creators a free means in which to gain some traffic as long as their site meets my Independent Baptist Criteria. There are so many resources on the internet for Independent Baptists to utilize but it is so difficult to find them all. It doesn't take long to learn that you can create the best web site on the Internet but that it is next to useless if you can't get people to visit it. This is my attempt to bring together some of those resources in an effort to encourage the continued development of Christian websites and to allow Christian internet users to find solid, Biblically sound internet content.P.S. If you sign up for The Baptist Muse Topsites it enters you into the contest for a $2...

Westboro Baptist Church to picket Heath Ledger?s U.S. memorial services
2008-01-23 23:31:00 I’m not usually one to post celebrity news, preferring as I do news with more substance. But pretty much anything the Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kansas does grabs my attention. And the nominal ringleader (now that the founder, Rev. Fred Phelps, is getting too old to picket effectively), Shirley Phelps-Roper has announced that her church and kin will be picketing the memorial services of recently deceased actor Heath Ledger. Their reason? He played a gay cowboy in the movie Brokeback Mountain. Oh, and according to Phelps-Roper, they’ll be picketing the Academy Awards this year too. Assuming that there are any that last longer than a press conference, that is. 2008-01-23 15:00:00 Perez Hilton is reporting that The "Reverend" Fred Phelps's Westboro Baptist, will picket the funeral of Heath Ledger. I know I said I would not write another post about Heath Ledger, but this has got to be a real joke. I hate when people throw god name in something when their agenda has nothing to to with god. According to Hilton, the reverend is upset that Heath appeared in the gay Themed, Broke Back Mountain. What is this the crusades? The Guy just lost his life, and a very young daughter behind who will never know her father. What kind of church do you guys run? If you hate Heath or what he dis thats OK, becuase he is an adult, but at least send condolences to his young child and family.R.I.P Heath Ledger!

Barack Obama at Ebenezer Baptist Church on January 20, 2008
2008-01-22 02:47:00 The cadence is not exactly King-like, but Barack Obama, on Dr. King's birthday, captures the essence of King in talking about the substance of hope in a speech that he gave in the pulpit of the Ebenezer Baptist Church: Martin Luther King's Church (both senior and junior). Ebenezer was Dr. King's church for most of his career as a Civil Rights leader. In the end, Obama's speech is more Lincoln-esque than King-like in the theme that it tackles: Unity. The biggest complaint against Barack Obama is not that he's inexperienced, per se, but that he's short on ideas. I'm not sure if the speech at Ebenezer changes that perception. What he does do for the very first time in the campaign is light a small fire under the core of the national African American electorate, perhaps save the remaining lions of the Civil Rights Movement. Why such a small fire for people who want to trust and follow him? Why such a small fire for a people who want to be excited and ignited? Some people would say ...
