Baptists, Puritans, and the Witch Hunt!
2008-07-12 12:43:00
-By Don Boys, Ph.D. Hatred of Baptists was not limited to the Old World. The New World had its haters also and Baptists had to suffer the whip, the club, and prison to gain their religious liberty. Boston authorities imprisoned three Baptists and whipped one of them grievously. This whipping of Obadiah Holmes was witnessed by Henry ...
Did Baptists Influence Thomas Jefferson?
2008-07-11 18:42:00
-By Don Boys, Ph.D. Baptist people have been the most principled people since the time of Christ. I do not believe that the designation of ?Baptist? is nearly as important as the doctrine, but I want people to know where I stand. I am a Baptist, and am proud of my heritage that has made an ...
Washington, Jefferson, Madison, Baptists, and the Constitution!
2008-07-10 06:41:00
-By Don Boys, Ph.D. Americans had won the war with England, written a Constitution under which they would be governed and eleven states had approved it. Virginia and New York approved it with the understanding that a Bill of Rights would be added. The Baptists in those states were the major promoters of a Bill of ...
I Don't Do Anything.....
2008-06-19 06:19:00
I file them in like little ducks.  Everywhere.  It's a scene of repetition, an endless replay loop of loading and unloading, filing in and out from car to door and back again.  I'm kind of used to it now.  It's commonplace.  This morning I had some information to pick up from the church office.  I've been conned into leading the 3-4 year old class at this year's Vacation Bible School.  (God bless my mother-in-law!)  And so each morning next week I'll be leading a group of 3 and 4 year old children in their daily Bible School activities for St. Mary's Catholic Church.  It's kind of funny.  My sister-in-law said, "Wait.  Aren't you Methodist?"  "It's worse than that," I replied.  "I'm Baptist."So as I pick up my information packet this morning the woman at the church office proclaims, "My, don't you have a lot of helpers." To which came the following responses:Zoë:  I help a lot.  I made Daddy...

Southern Baptists And Global Warming
2008-03-12 15:15:00
If there is an issue to be debated you can rest assured that if there are any Southern Baptists within earshot they will jump in and likely be on opposite sides. I can say this because I am a Southern Baptist. Despite the attempt by many in the mainstream media to brand Southern Baptists as ...SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: "Southern Baptists And Global Warming", url: "http://www.twoinstitutions.org-/?p=264" });

The Other Baptists
2008-01-28 06:11:00
As a born-again Southern Baptist who walked the aisle at twelve to the sounds of “Just As I Am,” who lead youth groups, taught Sunday School, coached softball, and was only held out of the choir by the combined pleas of every single person within hearing range, I’m still aching over the course my church ...

Moderate or Slippery Sliding Southern Baptists?
2007-12-08 19:44:00
Christianity is all about sharing the Good News of salvation through Jesus our Savior and about sharing God?s love for all. Most Christians are a loving people who are slow to judge and quick to forgive. These very qualities often make hard decisions even more difficult.Today the growing voices of secular humanism are telling Christians that homosexuality is just another lifestyle choice. In many Christian denominations today, homosexual unions have achieved parity with heterosexual marriage.Should over two thousand years of Christian teaching and tradition be abandoned because of pressure from the secular left? Has the Bible been reduced to nothing more than a quaint historical recipe book filled with arduous instructions and impossible to find ingredients? Are the Ten Commandments really nothing more than ten little suggestions? We have written several articles about the gradual takeover of many Christian denominations by the far left. This began decades ago within the mainline Chr...
ROMNEY?S COME TO JESUS SPEECH: BAPTISTS, MORMONS AND MITT: WILL THEY DANCE
2007-12-05 05:57:00
By RB Scott  December 4, 2007 Boston, Massachusetts Years ago, wise-cracking, chain-smoking, beer-drinking First Brother Billy Carter reeled me in good as he groused that he, big brother Jimmy the President of The United States of America and other Southern Baptists were forbidden to engage in sexual relations with their wives while standing.   I was astonished that any ...
Calvinism and Southern Baptists
2007-12-03 16:06:00
Still struggling with the five points of Calvinism? You are not alone. Here is an excerpt: Southern Baptists were urged to be committed to defending their particular convictions but not at the expense of cooperation with each other. “The Calvinism issue is not going to go away, so Southern Baptists must be willing to openly discuss and debate ...
Southern Baptists Fail to Save Members from Mormons
2007-11-21 05:06:00
I just came across an article from Reuters through HotAir.com, where Richard Land, a leader of the Southern Baptist church, admitted that the SBC teaches its members about Mormons in order to keep them from converting to the LDS Church. The reason Romney faces difficulties with Southern Baptists, according to many experts, is his Mormon faith. Not only do many Southern Baptists regard the Mormon

Delegates to the annual meeting of the N.C. Baptist State Convention voted overwhelmingly Tuesday to expel Charlotte's Myers Park Baptist for welcoming gays and lesbians without trying to change them. There Is NO Problem With Mitt Being Mormon!
2007-10-31 02:24:00
Hello???? People Just Stop Creating Problems When There Aren't Any!For over a hundred years, since the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints inception its the same old garbage. Mormon haters - go put your wasted energy on something more productive - like Rudy Giuliani - the wolf in sheep's clothing. No matter what you do, say, or vomit, the Latter-Day Saint Church is NOT going to go away. You must be insanely jealous of its success to keep re-hashing the same old nonsense century after century. I have been a member of several denominations and have solidly chosen a life as a devout Mormon because your types of Church's did not promote and adhere to the values of the Scriptures and the Christianity that was revealed to me by the Holy Ghost. I searched for decades finding a truth that aligned with what I knew in my heart to be true. The constant bickering and tirades against Mormons are just so much wasted energy its pitiful. In all my LDS years, I have never heard hatred of ...

All Christians were Baptists???
2007-10-25 05:43:00
"I should not readily admit that there was a Baptist Church as far back as AD 100, although without doubt there were Baptists then, as all Christians were then Baptists." John Ridpath, who was a Methodist Historian as quoted by WA Jarrel in Baptist Church Perpetuity on p.69 (which you can purchase from Amazon, Barnes and Noble, etc..)I find it interesting to read books/webpages/documents that have quotes from men other than Baptists about the length of Baptist history... It is fascinating to me... I do love that he said all Christians were Baptists. Of course, Baptists use the word baptists because we believe in full immersion, which even the Roman Catholic Church admits in its encyclopedia that this was the standard of baptizing in the early church during Christ's time on earth, through even as late as the 16th century. Passages in the Bible point to immersion because of the need of much water (John 3:23), or they were traveling and came upon water (Acts 8:36-39), and th...
Are Baptists Protestant?
2007-09-16 14:31:00
According to Google, protestant is defined as:“A name for those Christians and churches which separated from the Roman Catholic Church at the Reformation, and for other churches and groups descended from them.”Most historians agree that the protestant Reformation was kicked off on Oct. 31, 1517 when Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses to the door at the Wittenberg Castle and began a movement that would shake the contemporary religious landscape. From this information, we can know that protestants date back to the sixteenth century. The question we must answer...do the Baptists predate this revolution and are they associated with it in any way?Baptists can date their religious lineage much farther back than 1517 A.D. In fact, a thorough look at history will show a group of people who hold to the same doctrines as current Independent, Fundamental Baptists during every century since the time of Christ. These groups have not always been called Baptists, but even a casual glance t...

News & Current Events :: Southern Baptists Debate the Role of their 'Messag
2007-07-23 20:56:00
Author: Eric Subject: Southern Baptists Debate the Role of their 'Message'Posted: Mon Jul 23, 2007 2:56 pm (GMT -4) Reasonable Cause Southern Baptists debate the role of their Message in hiring, firing Collin Hansen It's anybody's guess what messengers to the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) annual June meeting intended when they approved a motion on the Baptist Faith and Message (BFM). This much at least is clear: Messengers meeting in San Antonio recognized the 2000 document as "neither a creed nor a complete statement of our faith nor final or infallible." That's where the water turns murky, and the main dispute concerns how to deal with issues not addressed in the BFM. Some Southern Baptists now insist that the BFM should be the only criterion for hiring and firing. They focus on a phrase in the motion that describes the BFM as "sufficient in its current form." They have loudly protested moves by Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and th...

Author: Eric Subject: Baptists Proclaim New Era of CooperationPosted: Mon Jul 02, 2007 11:01 am (GMT -4) Baptists Proclaim New Era of Cooperation Audrey Barrick WASHINGTON – Some 2,500 Baptists celebrated the centennial anniversary of American Baptist Churches USA on Saturday. On Centennial Day, young speakers, introduced as "emerging voices," made it clear: "Boy, are we different!" "We are unified because being different is what makes us what we are ... We scatter light over the world like salt from a shaker," said Lauren Ng, assistant pastor of San Francisco's First Chinese Baptist Church, according to ABCUSA News Service. ABCUSA is one of the rare U.S. denominations that aren't dominated by a single ethnic group, according to The Associated Press. The emerging voices at the Washington Convention Center offered a glimpse into the future, speaking of unity in diversity, evangelism, justice and mercy, and global mission. The centen...

Southern Baptists say government-mandated limits are ?very dangerous?
2007-06-14 09:36:00
Further to my post about fundamental Christianity affecting America’s approach to global warming, Southern Baptists yesterday approved a resolution on global warming that questions whether humans are largely to blame for the phenomenon. The resolution also warns that increased regulation of greenhouse gases will hurt the poor. It rejects government-mandated limits on carbon-dioxide and other emissions ...
News & Current Events :: Southern Baptists Urged to Overcome 'Factionalism'
2007-06-13 20:36:00
Author: Eric Subject: Southern Baptists Urged to Overcome 'Factionalism'Posted: Wed Jun 13, 2007 2:36 pm (GMT -4) Southern Baptists Urged to Overcome 'Factionalism' to Win the Lost Audrey Barrick There is a "factionalism" within the Southern Baptist Convention that "deeply disturbs me," said the head of the denomination. "For 30 years we’ve been trying to raise baptism levels among non-revived churches among non-revived people who’ve lost their passion for the lost. But interestingly enough, we’ve become strangely passionate about our own agendas," said SBC president Frank Page Tuesday morning during the church body’s annual meeting in San Antonio, Texas. With baptisms in the Southern Baptist Convention down for the second consecutive year, Page is worried not only about the declining number but about the loss of passion for missions among members of the largest Protestant denomination in the nation. "Where's the joy?" he po...
Southern Baptists Divided At Annual Meeting
2007-06-09 15:20:00
Southern Baptists head into their annual national meeting next week at odds over whether they’ve become too conservative and wed to partisan politics, or whether a harder line is necessary to give the denomination a clear identity. Beginning Tuesday in San Antonio, proposals over everything from political involvement to clergy sexual abuse to speaking in tongues ...

Baptists and Child Abuse
2007-04-25 15:00:00
An article by the Christian Post was recently brought to my attention, here. It is quite disturbing to see the actions of proclaimed Baptists being used to pose questions such as:?It seems to me that a more compelling story would focus on the bridge between faith and abuse. Of course, I am not claiming that faith inevitably leads to abuse. However, there is reason to explore the possibility of some connection.? [Link]Not so much that people are claiming such, but that we as Christians are bringing such a negative thought pattern toward God, our Savior Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, and the Scriptures. The world has a right to say, ?You are supposed to be a Christian, why are you doing that?? Even Christ said, ?Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.? [Matthew 7:20]We as Christians can?t just sit back and say, ?Well, non Christians do it too.? Dare we make the same claim as them, ?You?re no better than I am.? Indeed we are not. Do we as Christians not have the Father, Christ, an...
The Baptists and the Amish
2007-01-23 21:18:00
I am, without apology, an independent fundamental Baptist. As a new Christian, I was raised up spiritually on the preaching of Jack Hyles, John R. Rice, Bob Gray, Lee Roberson, Bob Jones and Tom Malone. My pastor was Loren Dawson who operated (and still does) The Gospel Tape Ministry with over 10,000 sermons on tape from all of the great fundamentalists of this century. Pastor Dawson fed me a steady diet of great sermon tapes for over ten years. I graduated from Midwestern Baptist College (an independent Baptist college) in 1974, pastored an independent Baptist Church and started an independent Baptist Christian school. I have, for 33 years, been an unwavering, uncompromising fundamentalist. I am deeply concerned, however, for my fellow fundamentalists. I am much afraid that we will go the way of the Amish if certain attitudes are not corrected rapidly. I know that many of the Amish people are saved and love the same God that I love. I was raised in a Mennonite church as a child. I ...
