Bob Barr In Time  Wayne Allyn Root, left, Mike Gravel, moderator David Weigel, Bob Barr and Vern McKinley engage in a Libertarian Party debate in Washington, D.C., May 20, 2008. Jay Mallin / Bloomberg News / Landov   With his belly hiding his belt, with his red suspenders and white beard, Glen Parshall is a dead ringer for Santa Claus, except for the snub-nosed pistol he keeps tucked in his back pocket. Parshall spends his days behind the gun cage of Bargain Pawn, in a roughneck North Las Vegas neighborhood littered with homeless encampments, Catholic charities and pawnshops. It's no Bellagio. But he is a gentle man who treats his customers with respect, whether hoodlum or homeowner. He knows everything there is to know about weapons and is a stickler for the byzantine rules of gun ownership--the waiting periods, the background checks, the ATF callbacks and information requests. But just because he obeys the rules doesn't mean he likes them. Parshall is dissatis...

Bob Barr and Wayne Allyn Root  Today Garrett Hayes and I interviewed Wayne Allyn Root. I should have this posted sometime this week. This past week I got myself into some trouble with the Georgia guys about my comments ( picked up by Reason ) on Bob Barr and Jesse Helms. I wish I would not have had to write what I did but I will stay true to my princibles . I will call it how I see it. I want you to know that when I am writing something that I am shooting straight with you. We are the party of  princible and I want it to stay that way. When our guys screw up I will call them on it. When our guys do great I will scream it at the top of my lungs.  Bob Barr has my support and has had my support and will continue to have my support. Bob Barr is by far the Best candidate on the ballot here in Georgia. I received a letter today from Ben Todd from Vermont telling how if Bob Barr gets 5% of the vote that he would be able to run for office without the t...

I know some of the Georgia guys are going to be pissed at me for reposting ( Written By G.E.) this but sometime being a party man does not override  common sense. This will be the last post for a while on Bob Barr. I understand You should not talk ill of the dead but you should smart enough to know this man was not liked by Libertarians. Bob Barr would have been better off keeping this to himself. If this is how he felted then he should have sent a private letter to the family . Why would you poke the hard core Libertarians in the eye with this press release. I will continue to work on state party stuff including are great local candidates. If I am wrong about this please email and let me know where I am wrongThis is posted at www.lastfreevoice.wordpress.com-. I hope G. 2008-06-29 14:32:00
From the www.thehill.com Barr: GOP says one thing and does another By Klaus Marre Posted: 06/29/08 12:09 PM [ET] Libertarian Party presidential candidate Bob Barr, who has some Republicans worried that he might take votes from their nominee, on Sunday accused the GOP and its standard-bearer Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) of saying one thing and doing another. “What’s wrong with John McCain is symptomatic of what’s wrong with the Republican Party in these first years of the 21st century,” said Barr, a former Republican congressman from Georgia. “They talk one thing but do something different, and that’s become very obvious to the American people.” When asked about his potential role as spoiler, Barr said on Fox News Sunday that, “if [Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.)] wins on November 4th and Sen. McCain and I lose, it will be because he presented a vision and a platform and a candidacy to the American people that resonated with a plurality of...

Saturday, June 28, 2008 This is on www.nationelections.blogspot.co-mTo Clean Out K Street Cut Government, Says Bob Barr “Big Government reduces our liberty and prosperity,” says Bob Barr, the Libertarian Party candidate for president. “It also corrupts the political process. For it is pursuit of federal dollars and regulatory privileges that has led to the explosive growth of the lobbying complex we call K Street,” explains Barr. After the Republican Party took control of Congress in 1994, the GOP leadership attempted to take control of K Street, forcing the hiring of more Republicans and using the lobbies for partisan advantage. “Now the Democrats, having won control of Congress in 2006, are trying to do the same,” observes Barr. Roll Call reports that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and other Democratic leaders are demanding that K Street accept and work with the new rulers of Capitol Hill.“Unfortunately, the housing legislation ...

Bob Barr money bomb getting PressThis was in The Colorado Independent  Bombs away! Ron Paul supporters organize cash drop for Bob Barr By Wendy Norris 06/27/2008 It was only a matter of time before the warring sides came together to support their presidential candidate. But lest you think Sen. Hillary Clinton's sullen supporters are suddenly unifying with their primary rival and now presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, Sen. Barack Obama, the Libertarians are showing how they wear their big-boy pants. The Ron Paul Revolution fans are organizing a "money bomb" on Wednesday to help the cash-strapped Barr-Root Libertarian ticket. Can the Paulites work their political holiday-inspired magic yet again for Bob Barr, the former Republican congressman from Georgia who helped lead the drive to impeach Bill Clinton who staged a surprise presidential bid for the Libertarian Party nomination? Bob Barr Calls Heller Decision on Gun Rights “One of Court’s Most Important Rulings on behalf of Liberty ”Washington , DC - Today the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the individual right of Americans to own guns in District of Columbia v. Heller.  The ruling “will go down as one of the Supreme Court’s most important rulings on behalf of liberty,” says Libertarian Party presidential candidate Bob Barr. Until today, the Court had never held that the Second Amendment directly applied to individuals. “Today’s decision marks a new era for gun rights in America ,” explains Barr, who is a member of the Board of Directors of the National Rifle Association.  Barr also drafted the Libertarian Party’s amicus curiae brief in Heller.  “By protecting an individual’s right to keep and bear arms, the Second Amendment ensures that all Americans are able to participate in sporting activities, hunt, and protect themselves and their families,” he explains. The rig...

Bob Barr Says U.S. Must Cut United Nations Role and Budget
2008-06-26 19:19:00
Bob Barr Says U.S. Must Cut United Nations Role and BudgetOn this day in 1945 the U.S. and other countries signed the United Nations Charter.  Unfortunately, “the UN has been an enormous disappointment,” says Libertarian Party presidential candidate Bob Barr.   “The U.S. should push to roll back the UN’s functions and slash America ’s financial contribution.”Expectations for the UN initially were high:  before the signing, President Harry S. Truman said “At no time in history has there been a more important Conference than this one.”  Obviously, “President Truman had no sense of history,” notes Barr.  “ America ’s constitutional convention always had a much better claim to that honor.”Nor was President Truman much of a prophet.  “The United Nations has turned out far different than expected,” says Barr.  The budget is bloated. “The UN has become a huge, bloated and costly bureaucracy, constantly seeking ways to ...

Bob Barr on ANWARJune 19, 2008 6:35 pm EST Atlanta, GA -- “The United States has large energy deposits within its own borders and off its shores.” says Bob Barr, the Libertarian Party candidate for president.  “It is time for America to develop those resources to benefit the American people.” The Democratic Party remains a large road block to a better energy future, since it even opposes exploration to determine how much oil and natural gas we have.  “Sen. Barack Obama and his fellow Democrats say they want to promote a prosperous America, but they are committed to keeping us dependent on expensive foreign energy sources,” Barr observes. Unfortunately, Sen. John McCain is little better. He is “a late and uncertain convert to a smarter energy policy,” says Barr.  For years Sen. McCain, like most of his Democratic colleagues, opposed allowing development of the Outer Continental Shelf, thought to contain 86 billion barrels of oil, and the Arctic Nation...
Bob Barr on Private Property

Bob Barr on Private PropertyJune 23, 2008 12:27 pm EST Atlanta, GA -- Three years ago today the U.S. Supreme Court issued its decision in Kelo v. City of New London, undercutting the Constitution’s protection against the unlawful taking of private property.  “In Kelo the Supreme Court held that government could take private property to give away to private developers so government could collect more tax revenue,” explains Bob Barr, the Libertarian Party candidate for president.  “That allows governments across America to ignore the Fifth Amendment’s clear requirement that property be taken only for a ‘public use’,” Barr adds. Many states responded to Kelo by restricting the use of eminent domain to conform to the Constitution’s language rather than to the Court’s interpretation.  But abuses still occur.  Thus, “the president should direct all federal departments and agencies to avoid the seizure of private property except as a last resort,...

Bob Barr on the department of educationJune 24, 2008 12:13 am EST Atlanta, GA -- The federal Department of Education is spending almost $70 billion this year on a function not even mentioned in the Constitution.  “The Department should be closed down and the money left with the American people to use for education at the family, local, and state levels,” says Bob Barr, the Libertarian Party presidential nominee. While spending so much money on programs that should not exist, in 2003 the Congress created a small voucher program started for students in Washington, D.C., which has some of the worst schools in the nation.  Now the Democratic majority is planning on killing the initiative, putting nearly 2000 students back into the failed public school system.  “The only federal education program Congress wants to get rid of is the one doing the most to help poor kids,” observes Barr. But since education is not a federal responsibility, “a better way to promote...

2008-06-21 12:03:00
Bob Barr Urges Congress: No Surveillance of Americans Without Fourth Amendment Protections June 19, 2008 6:33 pm EST Atlanta , GA -- “In asserting his power to conduct warrantless searches of Americans, President George W. Bush has expressed his clear contempt for the Fourth Amendment.  So has Sen. John McCain, despite his reputation as a supposed maverick,” says Bob Barr, the Libertarian Party candidate for president.  Now the Democratic-led Congress is preparing to approve a so-called compromise that gives the Bush administration almost everything it wants in order to expand dramatically the power of the federal government to surveil American citizens without court orders.  “ America desperately needs leaders who will stand up for the Bill of Rights,” observes Barr, “not those who flaunt its vital and time-honored protections.” The president already has the power to conduct surveillance of foreign terrorists.  The 30-year old Foreign Intelligence ...

Bob Barr Challenges John McCain to Debate “Worst” Supreme Court Decision June 17th, 2008 Posted in Bob Barr | No Comments » From the Bob Barr 2008 Campaign: Barr Says Decision a Victory for Rule of Law, Constitution Atlanta, GA — “The U.S. Supreme Court affirmed the importance of the ancient writ of habeas corpus, one of the bedrock guarantees of American liberty,” says Bob Barr, the Libertarian Party candidate for president. The procedure, which predates America’s founding in British legal tradition, forces the government to justify an arrest in court. However, Sen. John McCain called the decision “one of the worst decisions in the history of this country.” That is quite charge given a legal history that includes Supreme Court opinions such as Dred Scott, observes Barr. “The Court’s habeas corpus decision was a victory for all Americans more than any particular litigant, since it affirmed the duty of the executive branch to obey the law,” Barr explains. "Our phones are ringing off the hook and the e-mail inquiries have increased," Georgia party chairman Daniel Adams exulted last week in a news release. "We are seeing an increase in volunteerism, memberships and inquiries from the media has increased dramatically. We have never seen anything like this." Barr, a former Republican congressman from Marietta, has generated more news coverage for the little Libertarian party in eight weeks than it received in the previous eight years, a LP official said. Likewise, Texas Libertarians have been "energized" and are "extremely excited" over Barr's candidacy, a party official told a reporter before Barr spoke Saturday at the state convention in Fort Worth. Barr, a former Republican congressman from Georgia, said at the Libertarian Party of Texas convention that he is asking citizens: "Have you had enough? ... I think this year, in this cycle, in this election, the answer will be yes." The luncheon crowd of about 125 gave Barr a standing ovation. In the parking lot, one pickup's bumper sticker read: "No more Republicrats. Choose freedom." Barr said polls show that Americans "by a distressingly large margin" feel the nation is on the wrong track. "They are desperate for change, desperate for something that will rekindle their hope. That's an opportunity that we have ...

Ike Hall said some people will vote for Chuck Baldwin. That will not happen in Georgia.Chuck Baldwin and Ralph Nader will not be on the ballot because your State house Reps and state Senators belive they know what is best for you and have keep them off the ballot. I can not believe people do not get upset with the lack of candidates we have to choose from. This is on the www.Huffingtonpost.comBob Barr I Was Wrong About The War On Drugs -- It's A Failure.     I'll admit it, just five years ago I was "Public Enemy Number 1" in the eyes of the Libertarian Party. In my 2002 congressional race for Georgia's Seventh District, the Libertarian Party ran scathing attack ads against my stand on Medical Marijuana. Today, I am their presidential nominee and will represent libertarians at the top of the ticket on November 4th. Huh? That's right, Bob Barr, formerly the War on Drugs loving, Wiccan mocking, Clinton impeaching Republican is the presidential nominee for the Libertarian Party. Now, you may be asking how this happened and my answer is simple: "The libertarians won." For more than three decades, the Libertarian Party and small "l" libertarians have done their part to prove to America that liberty is the answer to most of the problems that we face today. Over the past several years, I was one of the many p...
Delay plans on Voting for Barr
2008-06-08 11:58:00
Tom DeLay's wife plans to vote against McCain Tom DeLay NEWSMAKER INTERVIEW Tom DeLay will vote for John McCain but the former House Republican leader said his wife, Christine, is planning to vote for Libertarian presidential nominee Bob Barr. "I'm trying to convince my wife not to do that," the Texas Republican told editors and reporters at The Washington Times on Friday. "She said it publicly yesterday." Mr. Barr's candidacy is an issue conservatives appear to be grappling with since he won the Libertarian party's nomination on the sixth ballot at their May 25 convention in Denver. Early polls suggest Mr. Barr could draw small but significant support in key states such as Georgia and North Carolina, potentially complicating the electoral picture for Mr. McCain, Republicans' presumed presidential nominee. Some conservative leaders are expressing their concern over Mr. Barr's appeal to Republicans who say they don't want to vote for Mr. McCain. They list a host of probl...

Barr chiseling into McCain voter base / Washington Times
2008-06-04 17:19:00
Barr chiseling into McCain voter base / Washington Times Bloomberg News Libertarian presidential candidate Bob Barr Bob Barr's Libertarian presidential campaign is poised to play a serious role in this year's elections, with early polls showing him taking away enough votes from Sen. John McCain to give Democrats a chance to win states that should be safely Republican. Polls in Georgia and North Carolina over the last two weeks show Mr. Barr winning 8 percent and 6 percent respectively of the presidential vote, and in both cases helping keep likely Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama within striking distance of Mr. McCain in those states — which, taken together, account for more electoral votes than Florida, Pennsylvania or Ohio. "Barr does throw a monkeywrench in Republican plans in states people otherwise take for granted as Republican states," said Matt Towery, a former political adviser to former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and CEO of InsiderAdvantage, an At...

Interview With Ron Paul (Newsweek) Talks about Bob BarrIt is time for The R3volution to continue the fight. I welcome any and all with open arms to the Libertarian partyJOHN McCain may be the presumptive nominee, but the Republican race isn't over—at least not to Ron Paul. The Texas congressman remains an official GOP candidate and has about $5 million in the bank, and a mighty band of fanatical followers. Will the fiercely antiwar conservative become a distraction for McCain at the Republican convention? Paul spoke with NEWSWEEK's Daniel Stone. Excerpts: What kind of presence will you have at the convention? We'll have a big rally there one of the days. Since they won't give us a spot, we'll make our own spot. We won't disrupt things—that doesn't achieve anything. But we'll have a presence and present views and try to … get in on the committees to vote on platforms. That's not disruptive. Bob Barr on the Military
2008-05-30 23:57:00
Bob Barr on the MilitaryFrom the Barr 2008 Presidential Campaign: Senators Barack Obama and John McCain have been trading charges over whether talking to Iran would be appeasement, notes Bob Barr, the Libertarian Party candidate for president. But “the issue is not talking, but talking from a position of strength and not expecting too much in return,” he says. Even Sen. McCain, in his recent speech on nuclear disarmament, called for negotiations with Russia, despite that government’s turn to authoritarianism. “By his own reasoning, shouldn’t that be considered appeasement,” asked Barr. The fundamental challenge facing American foreign policy is not whether the U.S. talks to repressive regimes. The question, insists Barr, “is whether America will adopt a more restrained foreign policy, focused on protecting the core interests of the United States and the American people.” “What reason is there to defend Europe, which has a larger population and economy than America,...

Bob Barr Comments on California Home Schooling Case Hat Tip Third party WatchFrom the Bob Barr 2008 Presidential Committee: The right of parents to home school their children is under attack in California, warns Bob Barr, the Libertarian Party candidate for president. A state appellate court is preparing to hear oral arguments in a case in which the trial judge ruled that parents had no constitutional right to home school their children. Education is a state and local issue, notes Barr, but “even more so it is a parental responsibility.” For good reason, he explains,“more than 80 years ago the Supreme Court upheld the right of parents to determine their children’s schooling, calling it an essential liberty under the 14th Amendment.” He urged the California courts to look to that case, Pierce v. Society of Sisters, in which the Court stated that “the child is not the mere creature of the state.” If the courts fail in their duty to protect the parents’ constitutional ...
Bob Barr on Neil Cavuto
2008-05-29 00:15:00
Bob Barr on Neil CavutoMay 28th, 2008 by Stephen Gordon CAVUTO: Six percent, that’s a pretty good number, considering you haven’t done squat yet. I mean, you just got nominated. So, how do you become a Ross Perot phenomenon? BARR: Well, I’m interested in being more than a Ross Perot phenomenon. I have great respect for him. And, as a matter of fact, his campaign manager is now our campaign manager. We’re putting together a team that will deliver a positive message to an awful lot of new and disenfranchised older voters. CAVUTO: Will you be on all 50 state ballots? How does that stand? BARR: We hope to be. The Libertarian Party, alone among America’s third parties, has enjoyed — not universal, but near-universal ballot access. Last cycle, in 2004, we had — Libertarians were on the ballots in 48 of 50 states, plus the District of Columbia. This time, we hope to gain at least that degree of ballot access, if not 49 or 50 states. CAVUTO: All right, you know the argument ...
Something from the Bob Barr campaign
2008-05-28 16:16:00
Here is something from The Barr campaign Dear Friend, Congratulations... you did it. It was your timely, generous, and loyal support that put us over the top. Today, my schedule is jam-packed with long campaign strategy sessions — my only "breaks" have been talking with the media explaining our platform of cutting the size, cost, and power of the federal government. Now, I need your help to reach the grassroots and the media with our message of freedom. There are just 161 days left to election day — but we have an immediate challenge of furnishing headquarters with high tech equipment to communicate instantly with tens of thousands of supporters and media contacts. And we need to do this in the next five days. Please consider re-investing in the Barr 2008 campaign: your gift of $100 or $1000 or even $25 or $50 is urgently needed. May I count on your support? The next few days will be busy with the technical, organizational, and promotional aspects of a national campa...
Bob Barr Pledges To Repeal DOMA
2008-05-28 03:07:00
American politics are really weird sometimes. The changing of positions is enough to give me whiplash. Up is down, down is the new up. White is black, black is the new white. Um…thanks Bob, I guess. Oh I just can’t keep up… – John (Average Gay Joe)
Can Bob Barr Damage John McCain?
2008-05-27 18:21:00
OR IS IT SOMETHING ELSE?Is Bob Barr’s Libertarian Party nomination the Kiss of Death for John McCain’s Presidential efforts or is the impact of his nomination greatly exaggerated?  I’m beginning to wonder if it might just be the latter.  In 2004, Libertarian candidate Michael Badnarik pulled in less than 400,000 nationally.  Granted Badnarik was a poor candidate. That same year, Constitution Party candidate Michael Peroutka did a little less than 150,000 votes.  Ralph Nader came in third with about 465,000 votes.   In 2000 the combined candidacies of Pat Buchanan (Reform), Harry Browne (Libertarian) and Howard Phillips (Constitution) brought in ...

Bob Barr Wins Libertarian Party Nomination
2008-05-26 01:38:00
After 6 ballots, former Congressman and former Republican Bob Barr won the nomination as the Libertarian Party’s Presidential candidate at the annual National Convention in Denver this afternoon. Going into the 6th and final ballot, Barr was trailing Dr. Mary Ruwart by 6 votes, but a passionate endorsement by Wayne Allyn Root, who was eliminated on ...
Bob Barr Projected to Win Libertarian Party Nomination on Sixth Ballot
2008-05-25 23:12:00
The vote at the Libertarian Party convention in Denver is going into a sixth ballot, with Bob Barr looking like the most likely winner. Although there has been vocal opposition to candidates with questionable libertarian beliefs winning the nomination, it appears that the conservatives at the convention do hold a slight majority. The candidate receiving ...
