Rather than shoot videos as we've done the previous two years or report on the same old sights and sounds that the hundreds of other media outlets cover anyway, we opted to bring a different sort of visual stimulation. Instead we enlisted NYC-based photographer Keetja Allard armed with a couple of Lomo's new Diana and a couple of their Holgas (as well as her own cameras) to see what she would find. The result is a look at the art, the people looking at art, the queues in front of the clubs and the parties. At times absurd, at times beautiful and at times everything in-between, it's a general impression of "the scene" that transpires over the long weekend in Miami. 2007-12-15 00:46:00 Singapore MAS releases new Basel II rules MAS says it will review the rules as necessary By SIOW LI SEN EVEN as the new Basel II rules governing capital requirements for banks are released in Singapore, the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) said it will monitor international developments and review them as necessary. The MAS yesterday released Basel II rules in Singapore which seek to align capital requirements more closely with the risks that banks face. The rules - four years in the making with extensive industry consultation - will take effect on Jan 1, 2008, the MAS said. The MAS will implement the Basel II framework for Singapore - incorporated banks from Jan 1. They are Citibank Singapore Ltd, DBS Group Holdings, OCBC Bank and United Overseas Bank. Basel II rules are global rules on capital requirements for banks and established by the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision in June 2004. Over the last two weeks the spill has spread beyond the Bay and into coastal waters designated as National Marine Sanctuaries. So what does it mean to have areas designated as Marine Sanctuaries if they aren’t protected from disasters like this? Unfortunately, if you strip the National Marine Sanctuaries Act down to its essentials, there’s simply not enough behind it to offer significant protection. In 2003 Ocean Champion Rep. Lois Capps (D- CA 23) introduced the Stop Oil Spills Act (HR 880), which would have accelerated the replacement of single hulled oil tankers with double hulled vessels - a move that could have protected our coastal communities from the mess happening right now in the San Francisco Bay. It wasn't the prettiest goal ever, but a goal is a goal in my book, especially if it leads to victory.The U.S. is now 10-5-1 under new coach Bob Bradley.
