Bavaria part 9
2008-04-10 00:31:00
Well this is going to be the last posting with pics from our Bavarian trip last year August. This time some pics from a daytrip we made to Herrenchiemsee, a palacecomplex on the island Herreninsel (gentleman island) in the middle of the Chiemsee a freshwater lake. The "Neues Schloss" (New Castle) is the most famous building and was build by order of Ludwig II. But when he died in 1886 it wasn't finished yet. From the total of 70 rooms, 50 rooms were unfinished. The palace was also suppose to be some kind of monument to show Ludwig's adoration of Louis XIV and was meant to be an equivalent of the palace of Versailles. It is also called the Bavarian Versailles. From Munich we took a train to Prien am Chiemsee. This traintrip didn't went so smooth, because thanks to the wrong information of some Deutsche Bahn staff we first ended up in Salzburg, Austria. We lost three to four hours which left us less time to spend at Herrenchiemsee. At least we managed to get some Mozartkugel (not the...
Bavaria part 8
2008-04-10 00:04:00
Things are going slow, but little by little we are getting there. In my former post I said that I would update it with some extra backgroundinformation, but when I was checking on the internet I found out that there was not so much more to add, so I decided to skip the update and start preparing the last two post with pics from our trip to Bavaria, Germany last year.In this post you will see mostly pics from Munich and taken at the Englischer Garten (English Garden), one of the biggest parks in Europe and very pleasant to walk through. The weather was very nice that day, so it gave me quite some nice photoshoot opportunities. The street on the right is the Maximilianstrasse (Maximilianstreet). The building on the left and in the middle is the Residenz.A little closer look at the Residenz. It seems that there isn't a major city anymore which doesn't have constructionwork going on, spoiling the view. In Holland it's the same in my hometown Utrecht, but also in Amsterdam, Rotterdam an...

Bavaria’s Hidden Chiemsee Islands
2008-03-20 22:09:00
For anyone who has stumbled around Munich during Oktoberfest, Bavaria means oompha bands, lederhosen and beer. But Bavaria also offers a magical and serene countryside for those who prefer to take the autobahn less traveled. Just a few hours from Munich, tucked away in southern Bavaria, is the Chiemsee. Surrounded by the Chiemgau Alps, this placid ...
Benedict of Bavaria?a biography of Joseph Ratzinger, Bavarian and Pope!

Recently I had the chance to read the galley proofs for the upcoming book, Benedict of Bavaria by Brennan Pursell. Bavaria part 7
2008-03-02 23:23:00
I'm almost getting to the last pictures from our trip to Bavaria last year. There probably will be one or two more postings and then I'm done with Bavaria. In this posting some pics from our trip around Lake Starnberg or Starnberger See as it's called in German. The main sightseeing places we wanted to visit were the memorial place (the cross in the water) were the drowned body of Ludwig II was found and Roseninsel (Roses Island). The death of Ludwig II until today is still a mystery. Officially his death was suicide by drowning, but he was known as a strong swimmer and according to the autopsy report there was no water found in his lungs. Until today the Wittelsbach-family refuses to solve the mystery. On the way to Roseninsel we also passed Possenhofen Castle (see picture 14) the birthplace of empress Elisabeth ("Sissi"). Later there will be a little update with some more backgroundinformation. For now enjoy the pictures.

One of the worst flu's I had in decades and a very busy job made that my planned catching up postings were delayed a bit more than I planned short after the start of the New Year. This heavy flu kept me in bed for 8 days.Anyway, here is the first real posting of the New Year.First some left pictures from our Bavaria trip last year August. After this posting I think I'll have pics left for two or three more postings before I'm done with our Bavaria trip. Then I have pics from a daytrip to Maastricht and a daytrip to the zoo and some pics from some kind of art meets science exhibition that I visited last November, plus pics from our four day trip to Vienna, Austria. So there is plenty to post. This time some pics from our visit to Nymphenburg Palace at Munich. The official website of Nymphenburg Palace can be found here.An update with a little more backgroundinformation about some of the pictures will be posted as soon as possible. For now enjoy the pics.

Bavaria (part 4) (Update)
2007-11-12 20:06:00
Next series of pictures. This time from and around Neuschwanstein Castle. An update with a little more backgroundinformation will follow later this week.(Update)This time a little more backgroundinformation with the pictures that I took in and around Neuschwanstein Castle, one of the castles built for Ludwig II, the Bavarian fairytale king who lived from 1845 to 1886. The castle was meant as a retreat for Ludwig II and was also an hommage to Richard Wagner, Ludwig's inspiring muse. The castle is probably Germany's most photographed building and one of Germany's most popular tourist places. Every year it attracts more than a million visitors. We combined our visit to Neuschwanstein Castle with a visit to the nearby Hohenschwangau Castle.Although it's a very commercialized and overorganized tourist place it certainly was worth a visit. Although it sure was bombastic the interior was not so over the top baroque or kitsch as Linderhof Palace and Herrenchiemsee Castle (pictures of th...

Chaos in the Bavarian education politics
2007-08-29 10:41:00
On the side recently allday schools at hauptschule are forced, on the other hand one first and second classes must be folded up because of Lehrermangel (for lack of budgetary appropriations) - as before one hundred years at primary schools. The calculation is completely simple: Savings with the education of our children cost the state at the adult age a multiple of the saved means.

Croatian central bank gives green light to Bavaria LB
2007-08-21 15:30:00
The Croatian central bank (HNB) gave its resistance up against the assumption of the Hypo Alpe Adria bank (Hypo) by Bayerische Landesbank (BLB) surprisingly. This is on switching of the Bavarian Minister of Finance Kurt Faltlhauser, which had spoken with the president of the HNB.  Thus the BLB can pull their assumptions through and carry out the two banks Hypo Alpe Adria Croatia and Slavonska Banka. The BLB must submit still another changed request for the assumption now and fulfill the editions of the HNB and apologize for the procedure in connection with the failure of the Rijecka Banka. Thus in my opinion all sides won.
Bavaria City Racing 2007
2007-08-21 09:43:00
Last Sunday, the city of Rotterdam was temporarily turned into a race track. Thousands and thousands (500k by police estimates) of people watched thousands and thousands of horse power thunder past. Sure, the world is going down the drain, but we still like nothing more than seeing some guys in fuel guzzling cars burning rubber for fun.

Bavaria spiders nevertheless, or?

“the Bavarian federal state government considers complaining again at the Federal Constitutional Court against the Homo marriage. “We examine the course to Karlsruhe, because we are not ready, a buckling of the value order of the Basic Law doless to watch”, said the boss of the Bavarian state chancellery, Erwin Huber (CSU), the “resident of Munich Merkur”. The winter in the Bavaria country, part of 1
2007-08-01 01:20:00
On the occasion of 65. Birthday of my Omi we opened three (Helge, Paul and my fewness) us, in order to inspect the winter feet in the Allgäu. The further we into the south of Germany (or so similarly…) , became the whiter the landscape penetrated. An impression of it everyone can make itself. Helge took up everything with an enormous Inbrunst, which could be held also only possibly. Thus much fun when looking. Schneepaul in the luck;) Naturally one may not run around in the Loipe, but for Paul that did not apply probably… Anyhow it took it not particularly seriously and found also equal humans, whom it could obstruct in the Langlauf. The cap had to be bought absolutely directly on the first day, since I had the feeling, to me the ears would drop… Unpleasantly, a really unpleasant feeling! The Omi: And again the cap… Also many more beautifully than dat Jesischt is camera to hold… Well now Jesischt dat nevertheless…. I say that the cap looks better: oops: And again the Omi: At the end...

The Kings of Bavaria
2007-06-01 05:00:00
The grandeous Residenz located in the heart of Munich next to the Hofgarden, served as the home of the Bavarian Kings for over 400 years. The Residenz has transformed through the ages as an ever-growing complex of royal residences, concert halls, churches and galleries. As the Residenz grew, it incorporated the architectural styles of each passing era leaving visitors today with a chance to wander from Baroque to Rococo to Neoclassic. The museum has several highlights that any visitor should be sure to see. First on the list, is the awe-inspiring Antiquarium, the largest Renaissance hall north of the Alps, which originally housed the royal court?s antiquities.  Today it has some truly remarkable frescoes to take in. The Nibelungensale (Hall of the Nibelungs) is a series of five rooms displaying famous wall paintings of the German epic, the Nibelungenlied. Near the Nibelungensale is the Schatzkammer, a priceless treasury of Bavarian riches that includes the incredible Bavarian crown...

Kandinsky: Houses in MunichNews: I'm trading in The City That Doesn't Sleep for A City That Doesn't Smell. Many of you may know that my partner (who, for the purposes of this anonymous blog, is called Master Right) and I have been servicing our relationship long-distance. Me in New York, him in Tokyo. That's about as long a distance as you can get and still remain on the same planet. The villain of the piece is the American Theocracy. Almost everyplace else on said planet, the immigration laws will either recognise us as a couple, or give us an easy work-around. But not in the good-old US of A. Homophobia is alive and well. So, I've taken some time to look for a job abroad. And I found one. From mid-May, I'll be moving to Munich, where I will hold, perhaps, one of the grooviest jobs in all of adland. I'll be the Global Strategic Planning Director on a Very Prestigious German Car Brand. No, not the one you're thinking of, but one of the other ones. Is that sufficiently inform...
