Time magazine lists ?Five Reasons to Visit Beirut?
2011-11-04 20:35:00
Gail Simmons from Time Travel magazine listed 5 reasons to visit Beirut. Here is the why he think so: The National Museum: Lebanon’s premier museum is now surrounded by the glitzy high-rises of Beirut’s renaissance. This 1940s pharaonic-style building is home to artifacts spanning Lebanon’s long history, including the sarcophagus of Ahiram, King of Byblos, on which is inscribed the first known Phoenician alphabet ? the prototype of modern Western versions. But perhaps the most moving exhibit is the documentary showing the painstaking restoration of the shelled building after the 1975-90 civil war. Byblos: The Phoenician port that gave its name to bible reached its heyday in the 2nd millennium B.C., though its revival came in the 1960s when luminaries such as Bardot, Brando et al. pitched up there. They went to admire the excavated ruins, crusader castle and Romanesque church, and to eat seafood at Pepe’s, a Lebanese institution that still counts Presidents am...
A Battle for the Pink Gay Travel Dollars... Beirut vs. Tel Aviv
2010-10-27 22:52:00
We all know, Gay tourism is a multi-billion-dollar industry. EVERYONE wants our money. And is this economy, it's amazing how many cities have decided GAY IS OK! And are rolling out the red carpet for us!And  two Mediterranean cities are both angling for a piece of the action. The two hotspots, each boasting trendy nightlife, warm climate and carefree attitude, are vying for the pink dollars of the world?s gay tourists. Tel Aviv, Israel?s cultural and business capital, has already earned its place as a must-go destination for globe-trotting gays, and now Beirut is making its pitch, too. ?Western travelers come to us to feel the Arabian spirit,? Bertho Makso, Lebanon?s first and perhaps best-known gay travel operator, told The Media Line . ?And Arabs have come to feel more comfortable.? Beirut and Tel Aviv are less than 200 kilometers (125 miles) apart on the Mediterranean coast, but two-city package tours for gays are not  going to be offered anytime soon. Israel and Lebanon ...

Has He Ever Been To Beirut Or Tehran ??
2009-12-12 13:32:00
I think you should read this at Jad Aoun?s Lebanon News: Under Rug Swept. Mr. Holger Awakens has never been to Beirut and Tehran and yet he believes they are so bad to the level he believes that sort of violence which is normal scene in the night clubs only to be seen in these two cities because of the difference in political regimes and ideologies !!!?? If I were from Mr. Awakens I would first search in the history of those two old great cities and I would read blogs about these two cities to see what my media does not show me because of some political agenda and then I would think if I should refer about these cities in this ill way. Here are two nice blogs about Beirut and Tehran which Holger does not know and does not want they do exist : Blogging Beirut and Tehran 24. The power of Hezbollah

No Easy Answers in Lebanon
2008-05-20 14:24:00
Whether Lebanon veered close to “civil war” this month?a question broached by many newspapers?seems purely academic at this point, and perhaps irrelevant. Beirut settled into a tenuous calm after Lebanon’s cabinet conceded (CNN) the immediate demands of Hezbollah, but the upheaval resolved none of the many issues destabilizing the country. Lebanon’s paralyzed government, Beirut’s inability ...

Hezbollah eases up and Beirut opens its shutters
2008-05-17 00:31:00
by Franklin Lamb in Beirut Saturday Afternoon May 10 2008 witnessed a pronounced easing of tension. Is a solution at hand? Based on a US Congressional source, the Siniora government is reportedly able, with US approval, to offer the following face-saving proposal to Hezbollah to end the current crisis:1. Hezbollah can keep its landline optic telecommunication cables for use in its Resistance struggle against Israel. But they should be put under "State Control". Translation: Hezbollah controls them exclusively same as now and no one else will touch them. But 'officially' they will be under 'State' control, i.e. not State control. 2. Concerning the other major issue regarding the head of Beirut Airport Security, General Wafiq Shouqair gets reassigned but Hezbollah gets to name his replacement. Translation: Wafiq stays in office, keeps his authority and puts his deputy's name card slipped over his on the office nameplate. The public version of the proposal...

To clarify something about Beirut riots
2008-05-08 17:33:00
I am noticing something that the media in the west and east are ignoring the economic factor in the Lebanese issue. people do not understand that the majority of Shiites in Lebanon are from the Blue collar working classes whether from the farmers or from the labours. The last economic decisions to raise the price of fuel and diesel in Lebanon just like another Egypt made this class extremely angry especially their wages were the same ,even after the very fast small raise the cabinet had decided from two days before the protests. The Cabinet decided to raise the minimum wages to become $US 500 , useless raise in front of continuous rising prices. Again this protests were not planned by Hezbollah and allies but it was planned by the Lebanese Labour Unions on objection of the very low minimum wages there , it was planned right after the Mahalla Strike. Hezbollah and allies sponsored it as another means to form a pressure on this cabinet and force it to leave after its provoking dec...
