07/06/2008: 140th Belmont Stakes (Corse cavalli Triple Crown 2008)
2008-06-08 14:24:00
When Big Brown turned for home, something wasn’t right. Jockey Kent Desormeaux knew the big bay colt was finished. Trainer Rick Dutrow Jr., who guaranteed racing’s first Triple Crown in 30 years, knew it, too. Big Brown straggled home last Saturday, losing the Belmont Stakes to 38-1 long shot Da’ Tara, who led wire-to-wire. Eased up in the homestretch, the 1-4 favorite was so far behind at the end that his margin of defeat wasn’t even charted. Guarda il video

Again a horse stumbled out of the gate, and again that horse was in front at the finish. Only it wasn’t Curlin, and it wasn’t even a colt. It was Rags to Riches, who not only took on and took down her male contemporaries, but did what no filly had done in more than a century: win the Belmont Stakes. And ...
A Thriller At Belmont Stakes

Rags to Riches surprised the field as she managed to pull offf a sterling race upsetting the Freakness winner Curlin in the 138th Belmont Stakes. For the first time in over a century a filly has won the mile-and-a-half Belmont Stakes. After stumbling out of the gate, she regained composure, getting good position to make ...

Rags to Riches Wins the Belmont Stakes [David Stefanini]

What an amazing race this was. Rags to Riches became the first female to win the Belmont stakes in 102 years. The last female horse to win at the Belmont was Tonya who won the race in 1905.I don't know about you, but I have watched the Triple Crown for roughly a decade now and I can't remember a string of 3 races this exciting to watch.First we had the super-horse performance of Street Sense coming from 2nd to last to win the Kentucky Derby. In the Preakness Stakes there was Street Sense once again coming from nowhere to take the lead only to lose by less than an inch to Curlin. Then there was the Belmont Stakes. Where 4 horses were dead even in the final turn. Then the battle of the sexes took place. It was race favorite Curlin, the winner of the Preakness, head to head with female horse Rags to Riches. They went back and forth throughout the stretch run until Rags to Riches finally got the lead by a nose and held on.This was by far the best Triple Crown I have ever seen. It reall...

Not long ago when Curlin defeated Street Sense in a squeaker. Here we come again for the third leg of the Tripple Crown. The 139th Belmont Stakes has a field of only seven entered for the 1 1/2 miles. It may be a small group of three-year-olds, and Street Sense will not be there. The only sophomore ...
