I can understand how Willie wouldn't have faith in using Tatis or Easely at either spot, Easley tried to fill in at short and showed very little range. Both are on the team for veteran leadership and their bats. Pierre has a $44 million contract and was awful in the spring, while Andre Ethier was phenomenal. Pierre will get time, so keep a close eye on this situation. Ethier is an excellent option in NL-only leagues and deep mixed leagues. Kemp, Ethier and Pierre could all split time in the corner outfield spots this season.

2008-03-30 18:41:00 I'm glad the right decision was made in regard to the last bench spot, I think alot of the Tatis versatility discussion was damage control for the waiving of fan favorite Ruben Gotay. I don't think the team saw Gotay in their future and simply tried to slip him through waivers as an insurance policy, which they didn't mind losing if it happened. On a defense minded team Ahern or Machado would get the call over Gotay, he was given the call last year because Ahern was pouting after not making the team, this year the team is very high on Machado. Tatis hype was probably an attempt to lessen the blow or give an explanation. Clark clearly won the position and he gives the team much more versatility, over a weak hitting player who will try to play 4-5 positions. Now Easley and Anderson can focus on the infield, putting them in the outfield would be a liability due to their lack of range.
