Berbatov: Of Course It Was A Penalty
2011-01-09 18:26:00 One of the biggest talking points to come out of Man United's 1-0 win over Liverpool was whether or not the penalty should have been awarded. Dimitar Berbatov was caught in the penalty area by defender Daniel Agger, after just 35 seconds. Ryan Giggs scored the penalty, which was the winning goal. The decision to award a penalty has lead to rival fans to accuse referee Howard Webb of being a Man United fan and to label Berbatov as a diver. Speaking after the game, Berbatov backed Webb and told ITV1: "Of course it was a penalty. There was enough contact for me to lose my balance and people know I do not go to ground easily." Man United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has backed the striker by saying: "It was a penalty" "Dimitar says he was definitely clipped. The replay shows he slightly touched him but the momentum is enough to bring the player down. "There is no reason for him to go down anyway. He is not that kind of player. "He is on the by-line, he is in the penalty box. I th...

Berbatov Nets Five In 7-1 Win Over Blackburn
2010-11-27 18:44:00 Manchester United have gone top of the table after Man United trounced Blackburn Rovers 7-1 at Old Trafford, with Dimitar Berbatov scoring five. Since the league was formed, only three players (Andy Cole, Alan Shearer and Jermain Defoe) had scored five goals in one game. Berbatov now joins makes that list four players are his haul of five goals today. It took only two minutes for United to take the lead, Rovers failed to clear the ball, it was crossed in by Luis Nani, flicked on by Wayne Rooney and Berbatov was there to put the ball past Paul Robinson. Man United were looking very comfortable on the ball, some brilliant passing but there as the occasional dangerous moment from Blackburn. 23 minutes in United had their second and another assist for Rooney. A one-two with Ji-Sung Park ended with the South Korean chipping the ball over Robinson. Five minutes later it was game over, after Berbatov scored his second. Berbatov picked up Pascal Chimbonda?s backpass, he was in on ...

Berbatov Takes The Plaudits As United Take All Three Points
2010-09-19 18:19:00 It looked like Man United were going to throw away a lead for the third time this season but luckily for United, Dimitar Berbatov had other ideas. Berbatov hasn't had the easiest of times since joining Man United from Tottenham back in the summer of 2008. Today he has become the first United player to score three against Liverpool in 64 years, which in turn has won over many fans. Sir Alex Ferguson brought Berbatov back into the starting line-up after missing out midweek against Rangers, his faith in the striker now looks like it could be paying off. Berbatov headed United in front during the first half from a Ryan Giggs corner. Liverpool striker Fernando Torres will take the blame after allowing Berbatov a free header. After the break Man United doubled their lead just before the hour mark with a sublime goal by Berbatov. From Luis Nani?s ball in, the striker first controlled the ball with his knee, with his back to goal his second touch was an overhead kick, which flew...

Berbatov Staying But Retiring From International Football
2010-05-14 02:17:00 Man United striker Dimitar Berbatov yesterday retired from International football, he has also stated that he will be staying at Manchester United. Since joining United in September 2008, it?s fair to say that the Bulgarian hasn?t been in the best of form, he?s been frustrating and is a striker lacking confidence. Berbatov has been the captain of Bulgaria for the past three years, not only has he had criticism from United fans but he has also been widely criticised by the Bulgarian press. "I am withdrawing from the Bulgarian national team, it was a difficult decision but I made it," Berba has been quoted as saying. "Sometimes you have to make the difficult ones. I though about it enough, but everything has a beginning and an end and that is today." Not only has the 29 year-old announced that he?s retiring from International football but he has tried to put an end to rumours linking him with a move away from Old Trafford. Berbatov currently has two years left on his contra...

Does Dimitar Berbatov Have A Future At Old Trafford?
2010-04-20 00:58:00 Since joining Man United in September 2008 Bulgarian striker Dimitar Berbatov hasn?t made the impression that many were hoping. When he first joined we all knew his style of play, he won?t run around after the ball a lot, he does look like a lazy player but he has a lot of technical ability, fantastic vision and some of his first touches are stunning. The problem he has is that he just doesn?t fit into Man United?s style of play. United are at their best when they are attacking teams at pace but Berbatov slows that down. On the other hand there are times when he can be incredibly frustrating to watch but seconds later, he can change the game with one moment of brilliance. He does have some good games but for the price paid for him, he doesn?t have them often enough. United paid £30.5 million for him, which is a lot of money. Berbatov has been a disappointment for the amount paid for him, that?s what it part of it comes down to. The price tag isn?t his fault; the fee agreed fo...

Berbatov On His Way Out?
2010-04-13 16:22:00 Reports in today?s papers, stemming from the ever reliable ?The Sun? suggest that Sir Alex Ferguson is ready to sell striker Dimitar Berbatov. Ever since he made the deadline day move to Old Trafford from White Hart Lane on the 1st September 2008, Berbatov hasn?t made the impression that he would have wanted. It is thought that Sir Alex has had enough and he is set to sell the 29-year old, even though he will get the £30 million United paid for him. So Berbatov may possibly be on his way out and the press have wasted no time at all in naming some replacements. David Villa, Karim Benzema and Sergio Aguero have all been linked with a move to United, most of which are very unlikely to happen. Benzema was one of United?s main transfer targets last season. He moved to Real Madrid along with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Ricardo Kaka, but after a poor season at the Bernabeu he has already been linked with a move away. Rumours a few days back suggested that Man United had been...

Spurs Should Be Embarrased
2008-07-20 03:44:00 On friday, I brought you a story about Tottenham reporting ManUtd over Berbatov (don't remember? click here) now Sir Alex has had his say and it is definetly worth reading.United had responded to the comments saying that they would fully cooperate with the Premier League, but what did our gaffer say?A National newspaper (The Sun) had quoted Fergie as saying that he expects to sign Berbatov, which Fergie has denied."I don't know where they got those quotes from, it wasn't from me."It's going to be very embarrassing for Spurs because the complaint appears to be on the basis of a story in a paper." If this is the only thing that Spurs are basing their complaint on, then they will look stupid.Something that has been pointed out to me that I forgot is: Tottenham have recently signed a youngster from Crystal Palace for about 3.5 million pounds less than he is worth and many people believe that they have stolen that player from Palace. But I don't hear them saying anything about that....

United Reported Over Berbatov
2008-07-18 15:42:00 Tottenham have reported Manchester United to The Premier League over their interest of Dimitar Berbatov, are we as bad as Real Madrid?Manchester United have reportedly been after Tottenham striker Barbatov and today Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that we have made a bid for him. This evening it is being reported that Spurs have reported United and Liverpool over their interests of Berbatov and Keane.United have reported Real Madrid over their interest with Cristiano Ronaldo (nothing was done about it but it looks like it doesnt matter now anyway what with him staying) and now we have been reported. Are we as bad as Real Madrid? There is a big difference between what United have done and what Madrid have done, we have actually made a bid for the player instead of making the player feel uneasy and pressuring the player to say something.I don't think that Fergie should have come out and said something but I don't think we are as bad as Real Madrid.Today's public comments by Manchester...

United still linked with Berbatov
2008-01-25 16:59:00 Today's newspapers are still linking Tottenham striker Dimitar Berbatov with Manchester United. I am pretty bored of this, i cant see Berbatov replacing Tevez or Rooney which will mean that he will be on the bench and we all no that Berbatov doesnt react well to being on the bench (nor would i but im not a footballer) so i dont think it would be a good move for him or United.Manchester Evening News is reporting that Sir Alex is determing to sign Berbatoc and his will monitor him when United play Tottenham in the FA Cup fourth round on sunday.Setanta Sports News have said that the Tottenham boss Juande Ramos has said that there is still a chance Berbatov could leave in this transfer window:"it would have to be an offer from a very big club with a very big contract to make him leave us."For the latest United stats, news, gossip, information, Premier League table and much more please visit:- http://uniteddevils.sportsonthe-web.net

Are ?Not Very Poor? United About to Burn Some Money on Berbatov?
2008-01-07 20:09:00 Though I personally am not sold on the merits of the ‘bad hair-styled’ Bulgarian, if reports are to be believed, a profit fueled bid might be on it’s way to Spurs. I too am not particularly pleased with this gossip.
Berbatov to United?
2008-01-06 18:49:00 Sir Alex Ferguson has said that he wont be making any signings during this transfer window, but apparently Tottenham striker Dimitar Berbatov has said to his friends and family that he wants to move to Manchester United.Tottenham have put a £30 million pound price tag on Berbatov and they have also said that nobody has enquired about the striker.Berbatov's agent has said that he would like to move to a "bigger" club which will fulfill his ambitions.I think that United do need another striker, when Wayne Rooney doesnt play we really miss him and that showed yesterday when we beat Aston Villa 2-0.Is Berbatov the right striker?Im not too sure about Dimitar Berbatov, he is a good player but sometimes he doesnt have the passion and he looks like he cant be bothered. I also think that £30 million pounds is too much money to spend on Berbatov.Personally i can't see Berbatov coming to United during this transfer window, but am i going to be proved wrong? For the latest United stats, news, ...

£35million for Berbatov
2008-01-03 16:59:00 January 3rd? Just three days of the transfer window gone and I’m all ready exhausted. It certainly takes its toll when your club is on the wrong end of the biggest story of the winter sales. Word today is that it’s going to cost the right suitor one whopping great bag of cash for the signature of the world’s favourite Bulgarian and I’m starting to see this picture that’s being drawn between Emil Dantchev and the Tottenham Board. The latest update is from a press conference with Ramos who, looking rather depressed in his Italian leather jacket, said: “It (speculation) is normal because the transfer window has just opened, but we want this footballer to stay with us.” “He is here now and unless somebody comes along with an offer that is too good to refuse, he will stay here and we are happy to have him.” That’s the first time we’ve had anyone from our camp admit that there is a possibility of him going if the money is...
From Bobby to Berbatov, how times change
2007-12-31 13:21:00 Two recent news items in English football are resonating in my head. One was the sight of an ailing Sir Bobby Robson receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award at the BBC's annual televised Sports Personality of the Year ceremony and the other was a typically calculated media plug by Dimitar Berbatov's agent on New Year's Eve. Sir Bobby, a player and coach of his country and a successful manager of Barcelona, PSV, Porto, Sporting Lisbon, Newcastle and Ipswich, looked frail and white-haired after his latest cancer treatment, but it was the media savaging of his England managing in the 1980s which had first hit him sideways and turned his hair grey. The venomous 'Robson Out' campaign pursued by The Sun was just one example of how times had changed in football since Bobby's playing days began, at Fulham in 1950. The media plays such a big role now that one of the key questions posed about Fabio Capello's accession to the England manager's role was whether he could handle the h...

Spurs vs Reading - ?Dimitar Berbatov, Dimitar Berbatov!?
2007-12-31 13:19:00 It seems pointless to start this story before 3.45pm on Saturday but I suppose every tale needs a background… …Christmas is over. Sunlight pours through the fabric of the beige blind in room and bounces off the bright cream walls like I’ve woken up inside the bulb of a lighthouse. They’ll be no more sleep this morning and no more rest at all. I’ve said I’ll head back to the Bakery tomorrow back to London life; reality, work and a list of problems as long as the fixture list in August. It’d be so easy to stay; so easy, massaged as I am in the lap of luxury. Every care of mine is tended to. Here, every meal is prepared for me with the finest ingredients, the most delicious flavours, the largest quantities. I’m beginning to resent having to chew it myself. Three stacks of new and non-released films sit ignored where I’ve chosen to watch effortless transmissions, like the Premiership’s Top 50 Foreign Players, instead on flat...

Berbatov Back To Bayer Leverkusen Thanks to UEFA
2006-10-06 02:45:05 Tottenham?s summer signing Bulgarian striker Dimitar Berbatov will face a return to his old stomping ground when his new club visit Germany to take on Bayer Leverkusen next month. Having been monitored by Spurs for some time Berbatov completed his move to the Premiership during the summer transfer window. He got off to a flying start scoring on his home debut but he has been blighted by injury which has limited the number of appearances he has made for club and country. Manager Martin Jol will be hoping that the front man will continue where he left off at Leverkusen and help fire his new club in to the knock out stage of the competition. |
