Top 5 Worst Best Picture Oscar Winners:
2008-02-25 00:50:00 5. Gladiator (2000) The only thing ?epic? about this venture is the vastness of its preposterousness. Russell Crowe grins and gurns his way through an array of bad accents and lurid emotional churning. Both less exciting than Ben Hur and less impressive than Spartacus, Crowe is somewhat out of his depth and even his commendable, natural ...

The Best Films That Never Won a Best Picture Oscar
2008-02-20 07:04:00 Everyone?s making book on who?ll return their borrowed dresses and tuxes to the designers and the jewels to Harry Winston?s. The track record for the return of borrowed clothing is dismal. Every time a star tells the media whose dress she?s wearing, it?s Hollywoodspeak for ?Try and get it back.? We can hope our favorite movie will come away with the big prize, but in the long run, some of the best pictures ever made did not receive Best Picture Oscars. A good example would be the AFI?s choice for number one movie of all time, Citizen Kane.

And the Oscar for best picture goes to...
2008-02-19 21:32:00 Don't ask me. I've only seen a few of the nominated films- not because I don't enjoy movies. To me, they're a lot like pizzas. Some are better than others, but they're all pretty good. It's just that movies have to compete with really good TV for my eyeballs these days. I'm currently working my way through the first season of "Dexter" and the fifth and final season of HBO's "The Wire". That leaves little time for the big screen. I always watch the Academy Awards more for the spectacle than the competition. The fact that Juno and There Will be Blood are nominated in the same category reveals the folly of picking the best of anything. Did you see Westminster? Uno is one fine looking Beagle, but is he a superior dog to my Airedale Terrier, Archie who wasn't even eligible to compete at Westminster because he's missing a couple of teeth and his great, great grand-sire may have actually been a g...

The Arcade is "Reppin" at the Best Picture Showcase
2008-02-06 23:12:00 Last week, I (TonyD) purchased a ticket for AMC's Best Picture Showcase at Lowes 24 in Cherry Hill on February 23, the day before the big show. I know I've been talking about it a lot lately, but I honestly can't wait. A ticket is 30 bucks, but with a deal like this, it's soo worth it. Not only do you get to see all five Best Picture nominated movies ("Michael Clayton," "There Will Be Blood," "

tMF Top Five - Best Picture Losers
2008-02-03 00:00:00 E.T. has withstood the test of time. It is the science fiction movie for non science fiction fans. A fantastic story dealing with the simple theme of loss, this was the first film I remember seeing that moved me to tears. - - - - - - We're all list crazy in this business, aren’t we? They're simple to read and are not as arduous as a long-winded essay. That’s not to say that those types of articles don’t have their place, but there's something very satisfying about condensing a bunch of complex information into a simple list that appeals to all of us. Don’t think so? At tMF alone we had three separate Top Ten Best Movies of 2007 list and as recently as this week, we unveiled the Top 50 Hottest Young Actors. So today tMF is proud to introduce a new weekly section called – what else? – tMF Top Five. Each Friday we'll post a new tMF Top Five. Ever wondered who the Top Five Best Movie Villains are? What about Top Five Animated Movies? Top Five ...
Why THERE WILL BE BLOOD is the best picture of 2007
2008-01-25 00:00:00 A lot has been said about the movie There Will Be Blood. tMF featured two equally ecstatic reviews and both reviewers agreed on one thing - the movie is truly monumental. - - - - - - One of the most significant parallels between America and this film is history - both real and reel. Two of the factors that are often mentioned as making America great are capitalism and religion - and both factors are equally often cited as reasons why outsiders hate the USA. Says Jeremy in his review (http://themovie-fanatic.com/fi-lm_reviews/current/there-will-b-e-blood-jeremy/): The main contention in the film is the conflict between religion and capitalism. By showing that a complete and total devotion to either ideal would lead to a flawed conclusion, the movie does not take sides. It doesn’t need to. It’s almost as if both sides of the argument were presented and allowed to crucify each other. Had each man understood that they could have co-existed, things may have ended differentl...
