2011-10-10 11:18:00 Apple’s cloud storage service iCloud is all set to go live on 12th October 2011. iCloud will debut along-with Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2 and iTunes 10.5, an update which coincidentally have iCloud support built-in. Although Apple has not publicly confirmed the need for an updated “Lion†to run iCloud, developers have been testing the service using Mac OS X 10.7.2 (which is an unreleased edition). iCloud stores and syncs calendar, mail and contacts across all devices that you own, though it won’t do that for video content. Whatever it may be, this is quite a reprieve for all those Google fans who seemed disappointed over Eric Schmidt’s earlier revelation that the release of the OS may be delayed. Skype has also joined the race by launching a new beta version for v5.0 (currently only for Windows users) which will allow users to have 10-way video calling. The previous beta allowed 5-way video calling, but it seems Skype have been working constantly on their software to reach a double figured e-conversation. Skype said the 10-person group video calling feature is being offered as a “free trial,” suggesting users will eventually have to pay for the feature. First look at Internet Explorer 9 Platform Preview
2010-03-17 15:51:00 After unveiling Internet Explorer 9 for the first time at the Professional Developers Conference in 2009, Microsoft has finally made a first version of its new browser available for download. Well, not exactly. What you get when hitting the download link on Microsoft’s website is not what I’d call a web browser; it’s more of a web-capable playground with a bunch of testing links that lets you check all the new features included in the all new Internet Explorer 9. A stripped-down tool with testing material provided by the developers themselves is not really the perfect environment for trying out a brand new web browser. But at least Microsoft allows us to take a sneak peek at the new capabilities coming up in Internet Explorer 9, even if it’s still at a very early stage of development. Voddler launches web client
2010-03-09 17:51:00 After having to temporarily suspend the desktop client last month, yesterday Voddler’s web client went live bringing free movies to a much wider audience and moved it a little closer to what Hulu offers in the USA. However, to watch the films, I think you still need a desktop client to stream them and an invite. At the moment, even those that are lucky enough to have beta invites to the desktop client still have to wait. When you click on a movie to watch and try to login, you receive the following message: So hopefully, at some stage later this week I’ll be able to test the web client properly to see how it performs although after waiting so long for a beta invite, it’s clear that Voddler aren’t in a hurry when it comes to these sorts of things. It is still possible to navigate around the site and browse the Voddler movie catalog though. First impressions are the same as before - more recent films will have to be added for Voddler to become really popular b...
