New Miles Kurosky (ex-Beulah)
2008-05-07 01:42:00 Last time we saw Miles Kurosky it was his picture to the left. In the four years since Beulah's break up, Miles has endured several surgeries on his shoulder and one on his kidney. With all his health problems now seemingly behind him, Miles has finally graced us rabid Beulah fans with the first glimpse of his upcoming solo album.Although no immediate details are available on his new solo album, his new song "An Apple for An Apple" was posted on his Myspace yesterday. Enjoy the track which perfectly exhibits Miles acute sense of indie pop.MP3: Miles Kurosky "An Apple for an Apple"
Bands That Fame Forgot - Beulah
2008-04-10 21:24:00 Beulah. It?s not just a small town on the North Dakota prairie anymore. There was once a band called Beulah and almost no one has heard of them and I think that?s just tragic. You have no idea what you missed. Have been missing. Have missed. Whatever. Without going into a long and exhaustive discussion of the ...

Profiteering Developers demolish 23 Beulah Road
2008-03-23 11:39:00 Battles lost - 23 Beulah Road - Gone forever ....and the character of Beulah Road, next to a conservation area, eroded again by profiteering developers with the blessing of the council planning committee. The community says NO but the Council says YES! What the community said in protest! "The line of the building and the style will be so disruptive, the character and ambiance of the neighbourhood will be lost forever."We must fight this trend, otherwise the character of Beulah Road will be ruined as more and more developers buy up bungalows, demolish them and replace them with overpriced buildings that are squeezed into their plots. Unless we are prepared to challenge this behaviour the Council will assume that we are all perfectly content to see opportunistic builders destroy attractive and traditional buildings for a quick buck. It is important that the community has a voice and that we use it!"I think this current trend in Cardiff by developers of knocking down perfectly good old...

23 Beulah Road planning application rescheduled for September Council meeti
2007-07-20 11:27:00 I wrote to Cardiff Council to try to find out what was happening to the planning application for 23 Beulah Road which was to demolish the existing bungalow and build a new bigger property. At the last planning meeting this was referred to the full council meeting but it has been recommended that this be deferred to September. The council officer writes...I am writing in response to your comments below regarding the Council papers provide on our website. The papers for this month’s Council meeting were published five working days in advance of the meeting. This is the case with any Council or Committee meeting. On this occasion the all papers provided to Councillors prior to the meeting were published. This consisted of the Council Summons (or agenda), 3 reports and 2 sets of minutes. The item you refer to regarding a planning application is not on the agenda for this month’s meeting of the Council. The Chief Legal and Democratic Services Officer advised that the application could no...
23 Beulah road recommended for approval before people get to see the new pl
2007-06-16 11:36:00 Protest! People have been waiting to see the revised plans. But the report has already been printed. Objections have not been adequately dealt with. The proposed development is unacceptable and will significantly alter the surrounding streetscene, it certainly doesn't add to the street scene in any way. The size of the footprint is 'similar' says the report - however that means it is bigger and in a different position! It breaks up the visual line that is present at the moment. The applicant has been allowed more say in the report than local residents. See 7.3Persons claiming to be related to the applicant also canvassed the neighbourhood for support claiming that this was to be the applicants family home which may or may not be true and pleading for objections to be withdrawn but the developer may sell as soon as the building is completed. There is no mention of the demonstration of residents at the site meeting and the objections received in writing to members of the planning com...

23 Beulah Road Revised Plan June 2007
2007-06-12 17:25:00 Had a residents note from Jayne Cowan saying she now has copies of the revised plan for 23 Beulah Road. She is having a surgery between 12 and 1.oop.m. on Saturday, 16th June, at Rhiwbina Library, when she will have the plans with her.Jayne advises that the plans will be considered by the Planning Committee on Wednesday 20th June at 2.30.m., but she doesn't know the exact time when 23 will actually be discussed. Perhaps it would be worth circulating as many interested parties as possible, so that at least they can see the plans in the Rhiwbina Library on Saturday.Plans can be looked at at City Hall or write to your local councillor for a copy. Letters of objection can be sent to:Julian Stedman,Development Manager, Devlopment Control, Strategic Planning & Environment,City Hall, CF10 3ND Or email: developmentcontrol@cardiff.gov.-ukWrite also to: In Cardiff North -Tory AM Jonathan.Morgan@wales.gov.ukPla-id AM Leanne.Wood@wales.gov.uk Independant Councillors for Rhiwbina JCowan@cardiff.g...
23 Beulah Road - still time to send in your objections
2007-05-23 11:35:00 No date has been set yet as new plans have been requested.Late representations about the plans can be made via local members, or to Julian Steadman, j.stedman@cardiff.gov.ukCllr. Jayne Cowan will be attending the Meeting. people can pass comments to her on 02920627757 or email jcowan@cardiff.gov.ukI don't think lowering the ridge height will solve anything as a 'grand design' is not wanted. The line of the building and the style will be so disruptive, the character and ambience of the neighbourhood will be lost forever.
23 Beulah Road Decision Deferred by planning committee
2007-05-15 10:36:00 Jayne Cowan writes "I have been advised that the committee will not be hearing 23 Beulah Road now at the next meeting as they are awaiting amended plans. Protest at 23 Beulah Road Rhiwbina
2007-05-14 16:38:00 Residents protesting at 23 Beulah Road today during the site visit by some members of the planning committee.Another chance to have a say and listen to the dicussion at the planning committee meeting which will take place at 2.30pm on Wednesday 23rd May, Ferrier Hall, City Hall. Late representations can be made via local members, or to Julian Steadman, j.stedman@cardiff.gov.ukCllr. Jayne Cowan will be attending the Meeting. people can pass comments to her on 02920627757 or email jcowan@cardiff.gov.uk You might want to know how high will the roofline be, how near the pavement will the frontage be, how big is the footprint of the proposed building or how many windows will overlook Gernant at the rear. The current proposal for 23 Beulah Road is out of scale with the surrounding streetscape. We also think it will invade the privacy of neighbouring properties and may encourage further inappropriate developments in the surrounding area.” Proposed development in the gardens of 56 – 60...

Down in Beulah Land
2007-04-05 14:35:00 "I lived down in Beulah Land, and times were hard on black people back then," said John Easter. "A lot of times we had to quit school to chop cotton while the white man's children kept going. It hurts me to talk about it, but I tell people bygones should be bygones." Easter was born Aug. 7, 1914, in the Limestone (AL) County community of Coxey near the Elk River, but spent most of his life close to Tanner. He recalls that they could hardly get through the dirt roads, because the wagons would mire down and get stuck in the mud. He attended a country school through the sixth grade, and then the closest school for upper grades was in Athens. "I didn't have no way of going and no place to stay." Some students boarded, and some lived close enough to walk, but he didn't have any money to pay the tuition. From his cotton-chopping days, he recalls that the field workers "couldn't get nothing unless you went to the white boss man; you couldn't see a doctor unless the boss man said you ...
Another property to be demolished in Beulah Road Rhiwbina?
2007-04-03 20:14:00 Another property to be demolished in Rhiwbina! Picture taken by Beulah Road resident Mr Harley Jones.No. 23 - a bungalow which has been acquired by a developer with a planning application (No. 06/02843/W) for permission to demolish and replace it with a five bedroom dwelling and garage. Beulah street residents say 'In January 2006 the Rhiwbina & Pantmawr Liberal Democrat Focus Team called on us with a petition on the grounds that 'the proposed development is likely to have a significant impact on the streetscape of the road, which has a very distinctive appearance within the village as a whole'.
BEULAH - "When Your Heartstrings Break"
