Corrupting the Word of God
2008-06-05 19:39:00
In Genesis 3, we have the fall of mankind. This chapter is full of insightful information as to how man fell, but also as to the temptations we face today are merely the same as those which Adam and Eve faced in the Garden of Eden: Such as, ?the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life.?But, for the moment, let us consider the misuse of the Word of God by mankind which led to the fall, for such has continued throughout the ages with men Corrupting the Word of God even unto this day. Really one should take the time to read and mediate on this chapter, for here I will merely try to quickly note the pitfalls we can all find ourselves in when we corrupt the Word of God whether intentionally or not.Note 1: Not all corrupt communication will come in the form of ?God is a liar.?God said: Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat.Serpent said: Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? We see that ?false prophets, which come to you in...
Tijuana Bibles - Apartment Wrestling [2000]
2008-05-10 18:00:00
Taking their name from explicit comics that originally surfaced in the 1930s, the Tijuana Bibles formed in Toronto in 1997 to provide the soundtrack for local Super-8 filmmaker Stacey Case's project, Arriba! The Parkdale Wrestler. When the band made the leap to live venues in 1999, they created stage personas to conceal their identities. With the use of Mexican wrestling masks, the band members became: the Crippler (vocals, guitar), Blue Demon (bass, vocals), la Felina Negra (saxophone), Sonny-Boy Liston (guitar), and Buddy Lee Roth (drums, vocals). The Tijuana Bibles' music is a wild, often humorous mix of garage rock, punk, and surf. After a year of tireless self-promotion and countless live shows (which saw the band share the stage with such artists as the Sadies, Deadbolt, and El Vez), the Tijuana Bibles released their first independent CD, Apartment Wrestling, in 2000. Barack, Bibles and Bitterness
2008-04-27 02:12:00
The former Barack Hussein Obama has earned about as much right to wear a Marine Corps T-shirt as Jimmy Carter has earned to stand anywhere in the vicinity of an American flag. THE MOST POPULAR BIBLES
2008-04-18 14:19:00
I'm sure you know that the Bible is the best selling book ever, but did you know that the Bible is also the world's most shoplifted book. "King John" Dobbs has been talking about Bible translations this week and it got me thinking about, "What's my favorite translation?"According to Bible sales, the top selling bible translations look like this ... New International Version New King James Version King James Version New Living Translation English Standard Version Reina Valera 1960 (Spanish) Holman Christian Standard Bible New American Standard Bible The Message International Children's BibleI like preaching from the NIV because that's what most people here use, but much of my personal reading is done from the NLT. I still have and use my old "wide margin" Bible with all my notes in it. One thing I have still yet to purchase a ESV which many of my preaching friends love. If it were up to me to say what is the best Bible translation ever? I'd say it would have to be the one you'...
Not So Free Bibles
2008-04-15 18:13:00
I have six "The One Year Bible" that I am willing to give away. These Bibles are in the King James Version and is arranged in 365 daily readings. They were published by Tyndale House Publishers. Even though I've had them for a while, they are "brand new" in unopened plastic packaging. They are paper-back  Bibles. I do not like them for studying because they are not arranged in the original order of a typical Bible (Genesis to Revelation). However, they still contain the Word of God :) You can have them on two conditions: That you take full financial responsibility for shipping and handling. I would offer to send the Bibles for free, if it was in my budget. The Bibles are about a pound ( my best guess) and you can choose any method of delivery of course. After I access the cost of delivery, I will ask you to prepay the amount via PayPal (found on the left side bar on this site) The prices I found online for a brand new version of the One Year Bible rang...

Bunnies, Bibles, and Gay Scientists

Aah, Easter. Tomorrow is the Christian holiday celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ three days following his crucifixion. What that has to do with coloured eggs, marshmallow Peeps, and a giant white rabbit, I'll never know...Actually, Easter coincidentally originally fell on the Spring Equinox, when pagans celebrated the return of spring and the fertility of the coming year's crops. The name itself, "Easter", is believed to have originated from Eostre, the Great Mother Goddess of the Saxon people in Northern Europe. I guess we tend to mix things up over the centuries...I'll spare you all the usual ranting about misconstrued history and instead give you a bit of humour from Australia. The following clips are from CNNNN (2002-2003), a comedy show which preceded The Chaser's War on Everything. After five long years, they're still quite amusing...What better way to honour Easter than to discuss Christianity and homosexuality?

Bigfoot, fog, 1400 bibles

M.: "It's really foggy."Me: "I hope there aren't any deer. We wouldn't see them until BAM!"M.: "Hell, Bigfoot could run out in front of me and I wouldn't see him."Me: "That would suck. I don't have my camera with me."M.: "I wouldn't take his picture, I'd run over him and get rich."Me: "Eek."M.: "I wonder if my insurance would cover that? Hello, Geico? I ran over Bigfoot. Yeah, you know, like Sasquatch? Uh-huh. Uh-huh. Am I covered? WHAT?! What do you mean?! You're a talking lizard, how is Bigfoot too far-fetched?!"Me: "Hee hee hee. Aflac! Aflac! Ass-crack!"It was so foggy, we drove right by the city we were going to. A city full of lights, normally visible a mile away... Didn't see 'em until we passed the exit. It was creepy. We half-expected everything to shut down, just as safety precaution. Solid fog for more than 60 miles. I have NEVER seen weather like that before.I kept begging him to let me stick my bare feet out of the sunroof of his ca...

Bibles Banned at 2008 Beijing Olympics
2007-11-08 16:17:00
Organizers for the 2008 Olympics in China have released their list of items banned from the Olympic village where the athletes will stay.Among the “prohibited objects” — Bibles. The Catholic News Agency reports that the committee behind the Beijing games cited “security reasons” for the ban. Athletes are also prohibited from bearing any kind of religious symbol at Olympic facilities. The ban seems to undermine comments released by the country’s top religious affairs official. Last month, Ye Xiaowen acknowledged that he expected large numbers of religious faithful among the athletes, coaches and tourists to be swarming into the officially atheist nation during the Olympics. Xiaowen, director-general of the State Administration for Religious Affairs, said on Oct. 17 that China plans to offer religious services for foreigners. He recognized that religion will play a positive role “in promoting economic and social development” in the futur...

Replacing Scripture with Scientology Literature
2007-11-01 16:13:00
It never ceasing to amaze me when so-called Christians, especially pastors or teachers, claim that the Scriptures are ancient or merely too hard to read (apparently just for their congregation), so they find literature by various kinds of authors (Christian or non) to take its place, believing it will do a better job than the Word of God in people?s lives.Apparently, ?Two [Pentecostal and Methodist Episcopal] pastors who spoke recently with CNN explained that when it comes to religion, they still preach the core beliefs of Christianity. But when it comes to practicing what they preach in a modern world, borrowing from Scientology helps.? [article]They would have us believe, ?As men of God rooted in Christian values, they do not see Scientology as a threat to their faith, but rather as a tool to augment it.?Note: ?Scientology was founded in the 1950s by L. Ron Hubbard, a science fiction writer. Followers are taught that they are immortal spiritual beings called thetans. Although the ...

2007-09-19 22:57:00
Author: Eric Subject: Bibles Still Coming in from National Bible DrivePosted: Wed Sep 19, 2007 4:57 pm (GMT -4) Bibles Still Coming in from National Bible Drive USA (MNN) ― Love Packages' first-ever national Bible drive is still getting response. Last month, Love Packages' Steve Schmidt said they were trying to get churches across the United States to do a Bible drive. Christians were encouraged to donate unused, extra Bibles to Love Packages for use in the under-resourced Third World Church. "I would expect that, before the end of the year, from the August Bible drive we're going to get close to our goal of 200,000. We have Bibles coming in everyday. We have people bringing them in by the carloads (and) truckloads." Each container they send overseas contains 1 million pieces of literature. It gets into the hands of Christians because of partnerships, Schmidt explains. "We've set up distribution points, different places in the world with Every ...
Man of Many Bibles
2007-09-12 12:30:00
Well, I have done it yet again... I lost my Bible.I'm really bummed about losing this one... I'd had this one for quite some time. I have a history of losing Bibles. This actually was the 4th one that I've lost... in say 15 years or so. Not a good track record. One of the Bibles I lost while in Pensacola. And it was actually ran over by a car (tracks are still on the pages) yet it survived and was returned to me...I was thinking about the particular Bible I just lost... it's been through a lot with me... a lot of fun stories... take for instance...The time that Dick Reuben came to my ministry school, BRSM, and told us to rip out the page in between the Old and New Testaments... because really there should be no separation. It's all one book. :) So that Bible had to page separating the two. Then there's the many trips to Mexico that I've been on. That Bible had been on every single one... including the wilderness trek portion of my recent trip to Baja, Mexico... And of course th...

Christian students, teachers, and staff in public schools throughout America are encouraged to bring their Bibles to school. "The only people keeping the Bible out of America's public schools are - us Christians," says Bob Pawson, SIS National Coordinator. "It's not the ACLU, Supreme Court, or school boards: It's just us." "But, good news! We Christians can lovingly and legally remedy this by simply bringing in our own personal Bibles. Let's fill America's public schools with Biblical information by using legitimate scholarly techniques. By simply exercising our American rights and liberties, we can help fulfill the Great Commissio...

Author: Eric Subject: Kindergarten Cops Rule: Witches In, Bibles OutPosted: Fri Aug 31, 2007 5:49 pm (GMT -4) Kindergarten Cops Rule: Witches In, Bibles Out 'Sounds the death knell for religious freedom' A court decision that opens the doors of Culbertson Elementary School in Pennsylvania to books about witches – but rejects the Bible as being too "proselytizing" – is being challenged. The Arizona-based Alliance Defense Fund has submitted amicus briefs in a lawsuit filed when a kindergarten student, under an assignment in which parents were invited to read their child's favorite book, was denied permission to have his mother read a Bible story. A decision in U.S. District Court that sided with the school's decision to ban the Bible reading, while allowing teachers to suggest reading books about "witches and Halloween," effectively "sounds the death knell for religious freedom in public schools," the ADF argues. "By transmuting ...

Author: Eric Subject: Bibles, Crucifixes Not Allowed into Saudi ArabiaPosted: Fri Aug 10, 2007 10:39 pm (GMT -4) Bibles, Crucifixes Not Allowed into Saudi Arabia Jennifer Riley If you are planning a trip to Saudi Arabia as the summer days wind down, you may want to think twice before taking your Bible with you. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as it is officially called, reportedly bans foreigners from bringing in Bibles, crucifixes, Stars of David and other religious non-Islamic items. The heavily Muslim country threatens to confiscate them from foreign visitors along with other prohibited items such as narcotics, firearms and pornography, according to the web site of Saudi Arabian Airlines, the country’s national carrier. “A number of items are not allowed to be brought into the kingdom due to religious reasons and local regulations,” states the airlines’ web site. It goes on to say: “Items and articles belonging to religions other than Islam are also prohibited. These m...

Shocka! Religious Apartheid Kingdom Confiscates Bibles!

Saudi Arabia’s been doing this for decades, but let’s all pretend we’re just beginning to notice: Saudis might take Bibles from tourists. Despite a series of initiatives aimed at generating foreign tourism, the Saudi Arabian government continues to bar Jews and Christians from bringing items such as Bibles, crucifixes and Stars of David into the country and is threatening to confiscate them on sight, The Jerusalem Post has learned. “A number of items are not allowed to be brought into the kingdom due to religious reasons and local regulations,” declares the Web site of Saudi Arabian Airlines, the country’s national carrier. After informing would-be visitors that items such as narcotics, firearms and pornography may not be transported into the country, the Web site adds: “Items and articles belonging to religions other than Islam are also prohibited. These may include Bibles, crucifixes, statues, carvings, items with religious symbols such as...
A Discussion of God/Christianity/Scripture with BT
2007-08-01 20:31:00
Warning: This is lengthy.Carried over from my posts here and here, we have the following from a commenter, named BT. BT?s comments shall be in red and my reply in green for this initial post. All commenters are welcome to freely give their thoughts. All I ask is that we try to stay to the topic without name calling and unnecessary verbal slurs, and try to show a little respect for each other?s view, even if we completely disagree. This is to be a discussion and not a war. Let it be noted that I am by no means a Bible Scholar, so what one will receive here is my honest beliefs. I would hope that is what we are given by each commenter. Shall we agree, then, for the sake of a more focussed discussion, that we are discussing the Abrahamic god? (As an aside, if you have any insight into why that god is not referred to as the Mosaic or Adamic god I would genuinely appreciate your sharing it!)I am not really sure, as to I don?t think I have ever called God, Abrahamic God. But not everyone thinks that is a good idea. International Bible Society-Send the Light plans to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to distribute Bibles with 11 newspapers during 2007 and 2008. New Testaments would be packaged in pouches on the outside of newspapers, much like soap or other sample products. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram announced in May it would deliver more than 200,000 New Testaments the last Sunday of the year. David House, the newspaper's reader advocate, said he received about 70 e-mails split between supporters and those opposed to packaging the scriptures with...

Author: Eric Subject: Thousands of Bibles Going to U.S. Troops in Combat TheatersPosted: Wed Jul 18, 2007 10:24 pm (GMT -4) Thousands of Bibles Going to U.S. Troops in Combat Theaters Allie Martin An evangelistic ministry is helping provide thousands of copies of God's Word to U.S. troops serving throughout Iraq and Afghanistan. Recently, Revival Fires Ministries conducted a Fourth of July campaign in which supporters were asked to donate Bibles to U.S. troops. More than 2,500 Bibles were donated, at a cost of $4.00 each, for troops serving in the Middle East. Tim Todd, president of Revival Fires Ministries, believes the initiative has had an eternal impact. "We highly encourage anybody who did not already know about this project to get on board and help us," he urges. "And Bibles are better than bullets in Iraq and Afghanistan, and that is the life-changing power of the Word of God -- and it's making a difference in the lives of our soldiers." Th...
Students Trade Bibles for Porn
2007-07-06 19:41:00
"A group of atheists at the University of Texas at San Antonio is putting a novel twist on the toys-for-guns programs run by many urban police departments. But instead of toys, they are handing out porn in exchange for bibles.   “We consider the bible to be a very negative force in the history of the world,” student Ryan Walker said. Walker is part of a student group that calls itself the Atheist Agenda.    Club members this week posted fliers promoting what they call the “Smut for Smut” campaign then set up a table in the student union to collect religious materials and pass out adult magazines such as Black Label and Playboy.   The group is not officially sanctioned by the university and has raised the ire of several religious organizations on campus.   “In my opinion, there are no atheists. There are fools,” Pastor Rick Hawkins of UTSA’s Family Praise Center said. “So, that would be foolish propaganda....
Do the Gospels Deserve Our Attention?
2007-06-22 16:36:00
We have another good question from a blogger asking, ?The Gospels were written decades after the supposed events they described by individuals who were probably not eyewitnesses given the short life expectancy during that era.?They claim the most common response they receive from Christians is, ?If the story is false or embellished as you speculate, why would early Christians die for a story that was obviously untrue??---I must also ask (the questioner), to establish the premise: By what authority do you conclude your ideas of when and by whom the Gospels were written?---I must admit that I agree with the author in that simply claiming that people becoming martyrs over the belief that something is true does not in and of it self make it true. In example they give the Muslims. Muslims indeed martyr themselves for a belief they hold, which any Christian must confess disagrees with the Word of the True God, I AM. Yet it could be noted that Christians usually become martyrs by the hands...

Vaticanus:Believed to have been written in the 4th century, it appeared in the Vatican Library in its earliest catalog of 1475.Sinaiticus:Believed to have been written in the 4th century, it was found (shown to) by Constantin von Tischendorf the Monastery of Saint Catherine, at the foot of Mount Sinai in Egypt, in 1859.Both of these Codexes are part of the Alexandrian text-type family, also called Neutral or Egyptian. Westcott and Hort used this family and relied heavily on Vaticanus and Sinaiticus for their 1881 The New Testament in the Original Greek. Before Karl Lachmann first in 1850, and Westcott and Hort?s Greek, the Byzantine text-type was used, as through the Reformation with Tyndale and the Bibles which followed.Interestingly virtually all modern translations, since the Kings James Bible, have come from the Alexandrian text-type family.
