Big Government: Now Better Than Mother Nature
2008-07-15 12:46:00
-By Warner Todd Huston Teddy Roosevelt impressed the nation with his focus on conservation and while he was president was responsible for pushing to conserve our nation’s wilderness in the form of sundry national parks, mostly in the western U.S. This was a worthy enterprise, few can deny. But what is the true purpose of these ...
Sowing More Big Government with the Farm Bill, by US Rep. Ron Paul
2008-06-02 07:00:00
Recently Congress sent the latest Farm Bill to the president. The bill features brand new federal programs, expansion of existing subsidies, more food stamps and more foreign food aid. This bill hits the taxpayer hard, while at the same time ensuring food prices will remain elevated. The president vetoed the bill, citing concerns over its costs and subsidies for the wealthy in a time of high food prices and record farm income. Nevertheless, this over-reaching, government-expanding Farm Bill will soon be law. The truth is most farmers simply want honest pay for honest work. However, if the government is providing competing farms with advantages, and one wants to remain a farmer, one must seek a proportional advantage from government. It is a difficult position for the farmer. Some are better at qualifying for taxpayers? largesse than others as evidenced by the fact that more than 60% of the subsidies go to just 10% of recipients, edging out the small family farm. This entir...
Big Government Responsible for Housing Bubble, by US Rep. Ron Paul
2008-05-11 07:00:00
The House passed two bills attempting to rehabilitate the housing and mortgage market this week. There doesn't seem to be any shortage of criticism and blame for the bad decisions, and rightly so. Lenders and banks do share much of the blame for the overheated market. Lending standards were relaxed, or even abandoned altogether, creating an exaggerated pool of homebuyers that led to ballooning home prices that many, especially real estate investors, expected to continue forever. Now that the bubble has burst, the losses are staggering. read more
Big Government Responsible for High Gas Prices, by US Rep. Ron Paul
2008-05-04 07:00:00
In the past few months, American workers, consumers, and businesses have experienced a sudden and dramatic rise in gasoline prices. In some parts of the country, gasoline costs as much as $4 per gallon. Some politicians claim that the way to reduce gas prices is by expanding the government?s power to regulate prices and control the supply of gasoline. For example, the House of Representatives has even passed legislation subjecting gas stations owners to criminal penalties if they charge more than a federal bureaucrat deems appropriate. Proponents of these measures must have forgotten the 1970s, when government controls on the oil industry resulted in gas lines and shortages. It was only after President Reagan lifted federal price controls that the gas lines disappeared. read more

New Zealand Bans Political Satire: Thank You Big Government
2008-03-23 21:51:00
In case anyone needed to keep up-to-date on Liberal Fascism around the world, New Zealand's politicians just banned the use of photos taken from their debating chambers that could later be used as satire. It is interesting watching the logical extent of "Progressivism" around the world. Too bad most of the American public is too enamored watching American Idol. Apparently, New Zealand's... Houston - People Do Vote With Their Feet
2008-03-20 17:07:00
In 1930, Houston Texas was home to 300,000 people. Today, the region is home to more than 5 million people. The nation's 4th largest city was not even on the map 40 years ago. As of 2006, its population was merely 700,000 behind Chicago. 40 years ago, Houston had only 1 fortune 500 company. Today it has 23. The world has recognized Houston's importance as it has more international consulates... Click the Headline Link to Visit Copious Dissent and Read the Full Story.
Ethanol: Starve People and Feel Good About It
2008-03-13 23:22:00
If anyone is wondering why we have a recession in this Country, or close to it, blame our politicians in Washington and Ethanol. It is all their fault, all of it. And I am not just talking about the Democrats. It takes more energy from oil to produce the same about of energy from ethanol. Yet, politicians subsidizes American farmers not only for the food they produce, but to burn their food... Click the Headline Link to Visit Copious Dissent and Read the Full Story.
Chicago May Ban Plastic Bags
2008-03-06 21:32:00
While I am actually surprised that this story is not global warming related, it still relates to Big Government stupidity. Apparently, drug dealers typically sell drugs in small plastic bags to more easily distribute smaller quantities to addicts. Consequently, to combat this concern, Alderman Robert Fioretti (2nd) persuaded the Health Committee to ban possession of "self-sealing plastic bags... New World Pack to Fight Obesity: Thank You Big Government
2008-02-19 19:12:00
I feel as if I have covered this story before, but the reality is that insanity is just compounding around the world. As usual, liberals have created their new PET project to control the masses. Apparently, they have figured out how to live perfect lives. Their lives are so perfect in fact that they must force us to live lives like them. Amazingly, this time they will not even leave their... Roger Clemens: What a Waste of Tax Dollars!!
2008-02-14 05:43:00
News just hit the stands today that we found Osama Bin Laden, brought stability in Iraq, balanced the federal budget, paid off our national debt, simplified our tax code, eliminated earmarks and secured our boarder. Well, apparently people in Washington are acting like it. Can someone please explain to me why Congress has time to stop Roger Clemens from allegedly sticking a needle in his butt?... No Fat People Allowed to Eat in Mississippi: Thank you Big Government
2008-02-01 19:48:00
Today, Do-gooder lawmakers in Mississippi have figured out how to help the common man. With unbelievable arrogance, they have proposed legislation that forbids restaurants and food establishments from serving anyone who is obese. For all of you who supported smoking bans, this is what you get. In the future, when the government bans something you hold dear, you will have no argument to stop the... Do Americans want big government?
2008-01-27 19:49:00
A recent Rasmussen Report would indicate they don’t: The majority of voters in the survey are in favor of less government involvement, with 62% preferring fewer services with lower taxes. Less than a quarter (24%) chose the opposite view and feel that more government services with higher taxes is more beneficial. The same report also found: 62% of ...
Gavin Newsom Will Tax Soda Pop in San Francisco: Thank You Big Government!
2007-12-19 07:01:00
While I am a proponent of federalism, and keeping government local, someone better keep a close eye on San Francisco. Gavin Newsom, Mayor of San Francisco has decided to tax large grocery stores for stocking Coke, Pepsi and other drinks sweetened with high fructose corn syrup. ?City officials say there?s a direct link between sweet drinks and obesity, which puts a strain on the public health... Fred Thompson: At Least He Will Let Me Eat a Big Mac
2007-12-06 07:01:00
This Nanny State nonsense has gone completely out of control. Just last week we reported that the FDA is looking to limit the amount of salt in our food because a bunch of do-gooder interest groups want to protect us from ourselves. Then we heard that New Zealand will not let people immigrate to their Country unless they meet a certain body mass index. Big Government politicians even want to... FDA to Ban Salt From Our Foods: Thank You Big Government!

To add to the list of things that liberals believe the government needs to do: Tack on protecting us from ourselves. Yes, the American Medical Association, a bunch of do-gooder groups, and the FDA, have teamed together to make our food taste like Styrofoam. David Cameron's address to the CBI - the end of big government.
2007-11-27 10:57:00
David Cameron is about to address the CBI and he's got a massive amount of ammunition to use against Gordon Brown and his government in crisis. We all know that David is a fine speaker and this could be his most important speech so far.The following is taken from David's speech:Big government and the bureaucratic age are institutionally wasteful. But it's worse than that:what really gets me is the deliberate extravagance committed by the people at the top of the government machine. The administrators and managers and quangocrats who administer public money on our behalf. Apparently managers of the exams watchdog, the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority spent more than £1.6 million of taxpayers money in just six months - on hotels and conference centres for themselves.Officials at the Home Office spend £800,000 a year on taxis - charged straight to you and me. The MoD has committed £2.3 billion to a new headquarters for itself - while our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan are goi...
No Fat People Allowed in New Zealand: So Much for "Universal" Healthcare

We have all heard from liberals how great the healthcare system is in New Zealand; well, at least I have. European Politicians Seeking to Export Big Government
2007-10-25 17:22:00
The statists complain about the severe environmental and social requirements placed upon EU businesses, but not followed by their competitors. I have to give it to them, at least they see that the current approach of the EU can't compete with other countries. The solution? Of course: Force. Let's make trade sanctions because other countries don't initiate force against their businesses.
Non-Governmental Organizations: A Trip into the Mind of a Liberal
2007-10-23 22:49:00
Bill Clinton just wrote in his new book, ?Giving: How Each of Us Can Change the World,? about the benefits of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs). NGOs work to benefit specific economic, social, and cultural causes. Instead of pooling tax dollars into one central location, and squandering the money, non-governmental organizations are smaller in size and have private citizens managing the money.Bill Clinton realized after his Presidency that these programs actually work to help people better than governments. He realized that it is easier to track the contributions to its intended source. NGOs also lead to less corruption and less waste. Overall, they achieve better results than punishing the most successful people in our society with a higher tax burden. For those of you who have never heard of Non-Governmental Organizations before, the first thought going through your head right now is correct. NGOs are exactly what they sound like. They are Private Charities! There is nothing diff...
Oversimplificaton in Libertarian versus Big Government Choices
2007-10-19 19:53:00
Michael Kinsley predicts that libertarians are rising but the more notable aspect of his essay is in showing how dividing politicians along libertarian versus big government grounds is not as easy as it may seem. I would take his arguments further to add that a choice versus libertarianism and big government is an over-simplification as ...
George Bush Finally Advocates Fiscal Responsibility by Threatening More Vet
2007-10-16 00:01:00
After the Republicans were voted out of office in 2006, George Bush has been able to do what many conservatives have asked him to do for years: Veto excessive spending. Not only did George Bush rightfully veto the SCHIP program, because of the devastating effect it would have on our future economy, but this week he threatened Congress with additional vetoes unless the Democrats cut their budget. Yes, $2.9 trillion is excessive.I am personally thrilled by this news. Finally, George Bush is acting like a Conservative, rather than a Compassionate Conservative (a.k.a. Huge Liberal). The question now is whether this is too little too late?Bush already was responsible for the Medicare Part D plan, which added another massive Government entitlement to our budget. So there is nothing Bush can do until the end of his term to make up for that mistake. However, this is a great start. The problem of fiscal irresponsibility all stems from Washington, D.C. When Republicans go to Washington...

Bull-SCHIP!!!! Democrats Seek Forced Government Dependence With SCHIP Expa
2007-10-08 15:20:00
The President was right to veto the SCHIP expansion recently passed by congress. To put it simply, all the grandstanding from lying Democrats and quisling Republicans that Bush is somehow denying health care to children is absurd. The facts about SCHIP simply do not support this notion.Under SCHIP, taxpayers pay for the health coverage of children in families of four earning as much as $72,000 per year. Democrats in Congress seek to open the program to families of four earning $83,000 per year or more. The President has made it clear that he is open to expanding the program, but not to cover well-off families before States enroll 95 percent of those lower-income children first. The foundation of SCHIP is utterly implausible in the first place. It assumes the efficient transfer of funds from taxpayers to the needy as their tax dollars go from their pockets to Washington and then back to state governments and ultimately back to the people who "need it." Like its uglier older sister, Me...
Communication Matters: Why George Bush's Veto of the SCHIP Program Was Not
2007-10-06 00:32:00
I was proud that George Bush vetoed the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) this week. However, it certainly was not good enough because George Bush failed the most important part of his veto: Conveying to the American people why he did it. Now the American people think that he wants to kill our children. The most I heard Bush say was that he believes in free markets. That's great George!! I do too. But, for the economically challenged, they still hear that you are trying to kill their kids. Here is what I would say if I were George Bush in as few words as possible:The SCHIP plan classifies "Children" as anyone below the age of twenty-five. The SCHIP plan classifies poor people as those making less than $85,000 a year. It is funded by a cigarette tax. When the cigarette tax reduces the number of smokers, and the revenue generated decreases over time, expect for government to find other ways to pay for it: Increasing everyone's taxes. Then, in 30 years, expect t...
Bill Maher Admits that He Does Not Understand Economics: This Explains Ever
2007-09-29 20:44:00
In the most recent episode of Real Time with Bill Maher on HBO, Bill Maher said something amazing: He does not understand economics and never did. He never understood it in college, and did not do well in that class either. Ladies and gentlemen, this explains everything.I am now completely convinced that this Country is divided into two groups of people, those who understand economics, and those who do not. Those people who understand economics call themselves Conservatives/ Libertarians, and those who do not understand economics call themselves liberals/ socialists. It is really that simple.I used to think that liberals understood economics, but still imposed awful policies so long as those policies kept them in power. How else can anyone explain why liberals always want to tax ?the rich? in an effort to make the lives better for the poor? Why else would liberals advocate increases in regulations to help small businesses and labor? Why else would liberals and socialists bel...
As Democrats Push Socialized Medicine, WalMart Supplies $4 Prescription Dru
2007-09-27 18:19:00
This obsession with Big Government for the sake of Big Government has gone out of control. Even though liberals know that lowering taxes and limited government have numerous economic benefits, including increased government revenue, Democrats are still locked into the mindset that they need to raise taxes and increase the size of government. It just makes them feel better about themselves. Now, as the Democratic Presidential candidates hash out their destructive socialized medical plans, the private sector is providing prescription drugs for cheaper prices than a Big Mac at McDonalds. WalMart, in fact, has just announced that it will be expanding its $4 prescription generic drugs by 10%. Laughably, WalMart apologized for only being able to provided two prescription birth control drugs and one fertility drug for $9. Wow, they?re really breaking the America people?s banks with those prices. I?m sorry, if someone cannot afford a $9 pill once a month to prevent me from having to pa...

A 70-Year-Old Great-Grandmother was Arrested for Allegedly Not Watering Her
2007-09-19 20:23:00
Something is clearly in the water supply. Not only do liberals want to ban fast food, but now they are arresting 70-year-old great-grandmothers for having brown lawns. Yes, Betty Perry was cited by Officer James Flygare of the police's Neighborhood Preservation Unit for failing to water her lawn.?Perry refused to give her name to the officer and, when Flygare tried to stop her from going back inside her house, she reportedly tripped and injured her nose.? Are we living in the Soviet Union? What kind of nonsense is this? Why are tax dollars going toward a ?Neighborhood Preservation Unit?? Again, these bureaucratic nightmares are getting out of control. There was a really simple solution to this situation. If Betty Perry?s neighbors wanted her brown lawn green, they should have knocked on her door and offered to water her lawn for a small fee or for free. If she refused, that?s too bad; it is her property. If elitist liberals want to argue that it lowers the property value of...
Liberals Push to Ban Fast Food in South Las Angeles, California: Thank You
2007-09-19 04:14:00
We predicted this happening better than Nostradamus ever could. As we have said hundreds of times over the last few months, big government liberals would attempt to ban fast food. Well, it appears that will happen in California. While many of you ?healthy eaters? may feel indifferent about this decision, just wait when the government bans something you actually enjoy. Then it will be too late.?Amid worries of an obesity epidemic and its related illnesses, including high blood pressure, diabetes and heart disease, Los Angeles officials, among others around the country, are proposing to limit new fast-food restaurants -- a tactic that could be called health zoning.? The government is the only thing being overfed in this case. There is no better evidence that the government is stealing your money than when its officials have time to zone for fatty foods to protect you from yourself.Just read this insane quote from a brilliant liberal communist:"The people don't want them, but wh...
Liberals Whine about Rising University Tuition and Student Debt: Fail to Re
2007-09-11 19:11:00
Barbara Ehrenreich of The Nation magazine recently wrote the typical liberal editorial. She addressed a problem and then stated we need to ?do something about it.? The ?do something about it? clearly involves government intervention to fix the crisis. Well, Ehrenreich and the Nation magazine fail to recognize that government is not the solution; government is the problem. Each year, many students pile on debt attending American universities. As tuition costs increase, the problem exacerbates. On average, students graduate with "$20,000 in debt," while others owe astronomical sums. In fact, some students are so deep in debt that they may spend decades paying off their loans, if they will ever be able to do it at all.Just to get an idea how high the prices are today, George Washington University now costs "$39,210 a year, or $50,000 with room and board." Some of these charges are intended to improve the indoctrination process. The universities call these extra fees "student activities ...
X-Ray Detection Systems Maker Vies For Big Government Contracts

American Science and Engineering is one company rising up to meet the country's security needs. The firm specializes in X-ray inspection systems that promote border security, fight terrorism and combat the smuggling of drugs and humans. There are about 1,800 security concourses in the nation's airports. Providing security is a daunting task for the Transportation Security Administration. On Aug. 1, the TSA awarded American Science a $10.8 million contract to use its SmartCheck personnel screening system. The system requires ser
Sweden Bans Woman from Smoking in Her Garden: Thank You Big Government
2007-08-26 20:18:00
Every chance liberals and ?Big Government? get, they will take away your freedom. If you are skeptical, look no further than Sweden. In Vaxjo, a woman was just banned from smoking in her own backyard. For those of you who think America will never get this insane, all it takes is small steps over time, and we are certainly taking steps in the wrong direction. Just a decade ago, nobody could have predicted that trans fat and smoking would be banned in restaurants, but that is exactly what happened. While I am not a smoker, most people support smoking bans because they find smoking an annoyance. However, once people give government power, government continues to grow. I honestly predict that government will ban unhealthy foods in restaurants or give tax credits for exercising in the next twenty years.Sweden, a Country just oozing with government regulations, is a macrocosm of how far these lunatics will go. This recent smoking ban ?came after the woman?s neighbor, a lawyer with a...

Sir Elton John Wants To Close Down the Internet
2007-08-02 07:01:00
Sir Elton John demonstrated recently just what happens when liberals achieve success. Yes, according to Elton John, it would be a good idea to ban the Internet for five years. Pathetically, he was serious.First you might be wondering, ?Why would he want to ban something that Al Gore, the savior of all mankind, created?? Well, because we as a society are not producing anything worthy enough for Elton John?s standards. Evidently, we ?little people? should go outside to sing and dance with our neighbors instead of working for a living. This is not to disparage Elton John?s talent, he is objectively brilliant, but when liberals get money or power there is no telling just how pompous and ignorant they become. This insatiable need for liberals to control others is extremely dangerous. Clearly Elton John is board with his success, and since he is not trying to force us to drive hybrid cars, he has decided that government-imposed fresh air is a good idea. Forget the fact that the Inte...
New Study Wastes Tax Dollars to Determine that Obesity Is 'Socially Contagi
2007-07-26 03:30:00
Add to you list of government waste and worthless studies: Social Scientists have determined that being friends with fat people makes you fat. So, I guess the scientists' most logical solution is to pick on the fat kids to prevent future heart attacks. I should thank the government for taking money from my paycheck to pay these pathetic scientific posers.First of all, it is about time that the liberals in this Country make a decision. Either we are a poor Country, or we are an obese Country. We cannot have both. We are the only civilization in the history of the world where our poor people can eat so much that they become obese. I am sure that the starving North Korean citizen who literally has no food to eat only wished he had such a problem. If anything, this study demonstrates that it is our government that is overfed, not the people. How is it that liberals claim we have no money to fund their programs, but we can afford ridiculous studies like this? I have a solution fo...
CNN YouTube Democratic Debate: Big Government at its Worst
2007-07-24 07:01:00
The CNN YouTube Democratic Debate was the typical liberal panderfest. It also oozed with total support for big government. While I could easily write a book about the absurdity that took place, this editorial may seem more like a stream of consciousness. For the first time, we really saw who the Democrats are. Anderson Cooper, in my opinion, did an excellent job forcing the liberal Democrats to expose their true intentions. He made sure that all the questions were answered and I commend him for that. Let us take some time to examine some of what was said. When asked whether any of the politicians would work for minimum wage, all the politicians said they would but Senator Dodd. So, if that is the case, maybe we do not need a minimum wage after all. This was pandering at its worst.Earlier in the ?debate,? John Edwards, with Stalinist zeal, advocated taking the power away from corporations through the use of government force. The scary thing is that the audience applauded. Than...
Scandinavians Reject High Taxes and Welfare State
2007-07-19 07:01:00
We are so often told by liberals that the United States should be modeled after Scandinavian countries. Liberals tell us that their socialistic societies should be revered. Evidently, Norwegians are singing a different tune. It seems that Norwegians are becoming less and less accepting of high taxes to finance their social welfare state. Because of their welfare state, Norwegians are among the most heavily taxed people in the world. Consequently, the cost of goods and services in Norway is excessive. For example, a glass of wine at an everyday restaurant costs $16 U.S. A gallon of gas costs almost $9 U.S. The tax on cars doubles the cost of the car itself. The Big Government of Norway has determined that these taxes are necessary to help the environment, another reason to be against Al Gore. Comically, many Norwegian citizens are claiming that they do not get anything in return for their taxes. Is it surprising that the Government is ineffective at providing services ev...
China Executes Head of its FDA: Tookie Williams Supporters Silent
2007-07-11 00:06:00
Today, China executed the former head of its Food and Drug Administration for approving untested medicine in exchange for cash. As expected, there were no protests from liberals who supported Tookie Williams. Moreover, the front page of Amnesty International online has not mentioned the execution. This is clear evidence what happens when liberalism is taken to its extreme. First, they attempt to impose their Big Government policy, and then if people stand in their way, they execute them. This is not to say that Zheng Xiayu, the executed man, was not corrupt; he clearly was. But, this begs the question why governments should be in charge of what people can and cannot put into their bodies. I digress.Notably, liberals tend to mask their brutal tactics and intentions until they actually obtain power. Pol Pot, Fidel Castro, and Joseph Stalin did not become mass murderers immediately, but rather with a slow gradual process. Like past dictators, I will not be surprised when...
The Department of Education: Destroying the Education System $67.2 Billion
2007-07-08 00:11:00
Conservatives have not been sufficient when conveying the need to get rid of the Department of Education. Instead of articulating why the Department of Education is destroying the education system in this Country, they manage to convince ignorant Americans that they are against education itself. This bureaucratic labyrinth known as the Department of Education has demonstrated that it serves only one purpose: To unnecessarily grow the size of government. If, hypothetically, the average taxpayer were to pay $1000 of his or her tax dollars toward education, here is a picture of what happens to that money. First, the money goes straight to Washington, D.C. Even if the taxpayer lives in Chicago, which is nowhere near Washington, it is totally irrelevant. Then the government workers take a huge cut, create an unworkable plan to fix problems they created, and send the money around the country. The money may never go back to the taxpayer?s district, a mere technicality. Subseque...
Bloomberg: The Biggest Little Man in Big Government
2007-06-20 23:55:00
Michael Bloomberg announced yesterday he is no longer going to be a Republican. Is anyone really surprised? The man has practically reinvented how far Big Government policies can go to create a nanny state. I wouldn?t have been surprised if I heard he created an ordinance requiring three hours of fresh air each day for all New Yorkers. The truth is that there is nothing conservative about Bloomberg, both social and economic. Generally, Conservative governors will hold restraint with their power. However, with Bloomberg, there was not one aspect of New Yorkers? lives he did not believe he had the obligation to intrude. Maybe he was just being a ?compassionate conservative?? In reality, everyone knows he only ran as a Republican because the way mayoral elections work in New York. What is worse is that Bloomberg, with his multibillion dollars may now run for President. God help us all. I do not even want to think about what he will do to our Constitutional Republic. ...
Sarkozy: What a Conservative Winner Looks Like
2007-06-18 23:54:00
Evidently, losing is something to revere if you are a liberal. To clarify, just examine people like Michael Dukakis, Al Gore, John Kerry, and Bob Shrum. These liberal icons all exemplify what it means to be a loser. Yet, liberals seem to elevate these people as if they accomplished something wonderful by failing. To them, losing is a badge of honor, almost a born-again moment. Not surprisingly, this past week in France is no different. In case your cable news providers spent more time talking about Anna Nicole, Britney Spears, and Paris Hilton, allow me a quick second to inform you of the paramount achievements in France. This year, the Conservatives in France had a major victory by electing President Nicolas Sarkozy over the Socialist Segolene Royal. Amazingly, the Conservatives also won 314 out of the 577-seat National Assembly. Moreover, this was the first time in 29 years that a governing party had retained its majority in the lower house of Parliament. The Communist Party, which...
Energy Independence: The Solutions Limousine Liberals Don?t Want You to Hea
2007-06-15 23:58:00
Contrary to what politicians have been spouting recently, American energy independence can be accomplished with very simple solutions. These solutions are so obvious, in fact, that it begs the questions why these policy modifications have not been implemented. In reality, the reason these changes haven?t been implemented has a straightforward answer as well: limousine liberals do not ?really? want energy independence. If energy independence was their goal, we would never hear anyone tell us that ethanol, wind power, solar power, florescent light bulbs, hybrid cars, or bio-diesel can achieve anything of significance. We would never be bombarded with misinformation from the ?glittering gems of colossal ignorance.? We would never be told that using more energy to improve our standard of living and prosperity is an addiction. Moreover, we would not have to sit through ridiculous congressional hearings with ?Big Oil? CEOs; maybe I am the only one who watches CSPAN?So, allow me the dauntin...
Milton Friedman and Why Limited Government Helps the Poor
2007-06-14 00:45:00
Insanity is attempting to do the same thing over and over again, expecting to accomplish a different result; Government policies are no different. Should it not be obvious to everyone that not a single government controlled economic policy accomplishes its intended purpose? From Social Security to the minimum wage, all these programs hurt the poorest members in our society. These programs force businesses to discriminate against the people with the least valuable skills.I am amazed that liberals refuse to realize this. You would think the entire Democrat party is made up of people who failed Economics and majored in sociology. Either that or the Democrat Party?s only goal is to stay in power by promising to end poverty while knowingly exacerbating the problem. If we were to base policies by what is actually accomplished, nobody in their right mind would vote for Big Government. What is worse is that we used to have citizens who not only supported liberty and free enterprise, but who...
Big Government and the Lure of War
2007-06-02 19:25:00
For my classical conservative fellows who are mystified over the lack of support for Ron Paul among the professional politicos of the Right, I recommend an excellent article from a few years back titled What is American Corporatism? by Robert Locke. It?s a must read.It isn?t that the Right has tried to shrink government and failed. This is the portrait repeatedly offered when phony conservatives wax wistful about the "Contract with America" as if it was a valiant struggle that just came up short against the prevailing Clintonian political climate. This is rubbish. The truth is that there are ample incentives for the New Right to promote big government, and promote it they have. Some of these incentives are outlined in the above-referenced article. Mr. Locke gives a thumbnail sketch of the ?third-way? that has guided federal economic policy since the New Deal (actually seeded decades before, as Gabriel Kolko documents in The Triumph of Conservatism). What it boils down to is the exho...
Hugh Hewitt a Big Government Guy??
2006-12-02 15:15:16
-By Warner Todd HustonWell, we all love to jump on it when a lefty says something stupid, don't we? We should also point out when an ostensible Conservative news commentator says something ridiculous, too...Now, I don't usually report what radio guys are doing or saying, not that I don't like them or that I find them somehow illegitimate, but because they have their own fora from which to make their waves and they can get their ideas out without my assistance. But, I do listen to several talkers and enjoy some of them, as well. One of the talkers I like is Hugh Hewitt. He is the reason I have stepped up my blogging and why I started a Town-Hall blog, too. I find he is usually a Reagan styled conservative and I agree with him very often. So, when he says something I usually give it consideration. However, he said something in the last hour of his show today that amazed me.Hewitt had a very short, sort of throw away segment on the last hour of his show last night (Thursday the 30th) ...
