Eighteen big-league players began the day yesterday with 20 or more RBIs in the season's first month. A total of 199 big-leaguers have driven in 20 or more runs in April since the start of the decade.Ortiz, who has 20 RBIs so far, is the only player in that group to have an average below the Mendoza Line, as a .200 average is known. Boston slugger David Ortiz, a close friend and former Minnesota Twins teammate of Johan Santana, said Sunday that after talking to the lefthander, he doesn't think the Boston Red Sox will make a deal for the pitcher. "No," Big Papi told the Boston Herald when asked if he thought Sanatana was Boston-bound. "I was (following it) for a minute, but I guess they stopped. They don't want him to go. (Minnesota) already gave Boston too many good things already. "Me, and now Santana? No way." While Ortiz is not privy to all the conversations of Red Sox GM Theo Epstein, Ortiz does talk to Santana, and the deal won't get done without the pitcher waiving a no-trade clause.
