Dinosaurs, Man, and Galling?s Hypocrisy of The Bible
2008-05-15 06:17:00
Now look at Peter Galling, one of Ham’s cronies’ playing innocent, engaging in bibliolatry, and being a hypocrite with this new approach to responding to a feedback given by an S.T. from Rockport, Texas and L.B. from a somewhat false location (What false location, Galling?), “We thought we?d try something a little different in this week?s response to feedback. Usually, we select one negative feedback to answer, always looking for an emailer who asks a valid question rather than someone just unloading unsubstantiated claims. Recently, we received two relatively similar emails asking about our contention (or the Bible?s contention, as we argue) that dinosaurs and humans lived at the same time. Both authors write as Christians, so we thought this would be a good opportunity to address the question once again and touch on some of the issues it relates to.” The contention of humans and dinosaurs living at the same time is not of the Bible. It’s all made up b...
Substitute Jews for Muslims to show your bigotry
2008-05-10 05:26:00
Hate them Jews!Photo by: Great BeyondIt happens all the time. I'll write, "Muslims are a threat to civilization," or "We should deport all Muslims," and some intellectual giant will comment, "Just substitute Jews in place of Muslims and you'll see how your remarks are no different than those of anti-Semites." I suppose when I swap the words I am expected to admit that the sentiments expressed are no different than Hitler's. There is a difference. A big difference. Hitler knew Jews were not dangerous when he said that Jews were a threat and so all Jews should be deported. His purpose in making those allegations was to create a bogeyman in order to establish, consolidate, and increase his political power in Germany. If the number of Chinese in Germany were as large as the number of Jews he would have said exactly the same thing about the Chinese. He was no more anti-Semitic than I am. Jews did not attack German citizens, did not plot to create a world Rabbinate, and could ...
Bigotry: it's not just for adults anymore
2008-05-08 16:59:00
New! "God Hates Fags" T-shirts, now in toddler sizes. You know what they say: if you want 'em to grow up without a shred of care or compassion for fellow human beings - start 'em early. If you want 'em to become hate-filled, rage-filled, closed-minded, we suggest you work on 'em while they're still malleable. Start with these tees, so the message burns itself into their soft, innocent hearts. Ah, the next generation of little Pat Buchanans:These kids are going to need some serious deprogramming later in life.Statistically speaking, some of the kids whose parents dress them in these shirts are going to be gay themselves. Reminds me of the fact that many (some even say most) victims of homophobic violence (bullying, gay-bashing, etc) are not even gay - but are usually those who others mistakenly think are gay. This is just one reason (you know, aside from the morality aspect) that even straight folk should be concerned about homophobia. Gay bashing is about more than just punishi...

CMI?s Own Feather Fossil Fantasy
2008-05-06 21:50:00
After going through a huge spiel about dino/bird ancestry and feathered evolution similar to the old worn-out claims of “If humans evolve from monkeys, why are still monkeys around?” Creationist Shaun Doyle ends his CMI article, Feather Fossil (sic} Fantasy with this tripe, “From a biblical view, these feathers are likely to have come from a chick and were encased in amber during the Flood.” No, Doyle. Not from a biblical worldview, but from a stupid, fantasy young earth worldview, the real feathered fossil fantasy, entirely made up without presenting a single evidence for any conclusion creationists made up in response to primitive feathers found encased in amber dated around 100 million years old in which they claim to have come from “a chick” (not a dromaeosaur chick, mind you, but a modern baby chicken) which fell off and “were encased in amber during the Flood.” Now that’s a real feather fossil fantasy Doyle is making up...

Rev. Wright’s Bigotry More Significant than Rep. Kern’s
2008-03-18 05:01:00
This weekend when I realized that since Bill Clinton and Gary Condit, the sex scandals attracting major media attention have all involved gay sex or solicitations for such sex (McGreevey, Foley, Craig), I quickly typed up an observation, perhaps my shortest post ever. A reader, upset that I hadn’t addressed an issue I had then heard nothing about, wondered why I hadn’t said anything about the “venomous anti-gay hate speech by Oklahoma Sate Rep. Sally Kern” (his words), I replied noting that Ms. Kern is hardly anyone in “the national spotlight.” It seems the media has dragged this misguided woman into the national spotlight, probably because of her partisan affiliation (alas, she’s a Republican). Her contention that homosexuality is a greater threat to America than terrorism is just plain silly. Ed Morrissey said it best when he wrote, “Republicans at some point have to distance themselves from those whose paranoid impulses lead them t...

The "Soft Bigotry" Of Slamming Obama-Rama
2008-03-05 21:09:00
Be warned that, with the sudden resurgence of Hillary Clinton following her primary wins in Rhode Island, Ohio and Texas yesterday, our corporate media smells blood in the water emanating from the Barack Obama camp, and they?re not in the mood to snack on chum, if you know what I mean. And one of the first to try and close in for the kill is Michael Gerson of The Washington Post here (center in photo, of course); the fact that the Post gives him space for his propaganda without reminding readers of his sordid role as one of the chief Bushco propagandists speaks volumes for the moral bankruptcy of the Beltway chattering class.Might as well get to it (see, Gerson is speculating on Obama?s first 100 days as president in ?glass half-empty? mode)?Redeeming his inaugural pledge to "pay any price, bear any burden, fly any distance to meet with our enemies," Obama's first major international meeting is with President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran. 2008-02-13 02:22:00
My personal definition of religious bigotry? Besides rudeness, contempt, a superiority complex, and a my-way-or-the-highway attitude? I'd add a distinct unwillingness to learn anything about the belief system one is disparaging. Oh, and an assumption about what those beliefs are. As well as the assumption that there is no variance in the beliefs or practices of various people within a religion, such as the assumption that holding religious beliefs = fundamentalism.

Possible Misunderstanding Concerning "Oh, the Bigotry of Bigotry"
2008-02-06 17:31:00
I appreciate Austin Cline taking the time to read my blog post and posting his opinions concerning it at his blog. I do however believe there may have been a slight misunderstanding as to the thoughts he pulled forth from my posting though. The title of my post was ?Oh, the Bigotry of Bigotry? whereas Austin Cline entitled his reply/rebuttal of such ?Anti-Atheist Bigot Denying Own Bigotry?. Though my original thoughts were in reference to another blog entry entitled ?Bigotry Should Disqualify a Presidential Candidate?.At the very onset of the topic ?Bigotry Should Disqualify a Presidential Candidate?, the writer begins their thought of bigotry as they see it from ?many Republican campaigns? towards race, to sexual preference (called ?anti-gay?, namely homosexuality), and atheism (called anti-atheist).They make the notion that although bigotry of race is not tolerated whereas bigotry toward homosexuality and atheism is, for they state ?I long for the day when anti-gay and anti-atheist...
My Conflict Over Religious Bigotry, Part 1
2008-02-01 12:40:00
I begin most of the posts I write for this blog with a clear message I want to impart to the reader and a fairly clear idea of where the post will end up when I am finished. However, there are times when I write more for myself, beginning in a somewhat muddled state and hoping for clarity to emerge through the writing process. This is just such a post. In fact, I intend this to be the first in what will probably turn into a multi-part series (perhaps that reflects the depth of my ambiguity on this topic). The general topic will be that of religious discrimination and bigotry.I begin this topic with no clear idea of where I will arrive and in full recognition that I am deeply conflicted over much of what I will say. For the reader to appreciate why this is a difficult topic for me and to understand the source of my conflict, I will start by attempting to describe the scope of the problem and then attempt to probe the heart of my confusion.Religious Discrimination and BigotryIn a gen...

Bigotry still alive and unwell in SC
2008-01-25 21:02:00
When The State newspaper endorsed Barack Obama in Saturday’s Democratic presidential primary, there were certainly a few people who disagreed. The vast majority of those people, like me, did so as a result of overwhelming ideological differences. But apparently, there were some people who didn’t like the endorsement because of Obama’s skin color. Like this bumbling baffoon, who called the paper to say he is “ashamed that we have a black operation supporting black candidates”: Fortunately, this moron is largely the exception in South Carolina. Although he is certainly helping to perpetuate the stereotype. Here’s a transcript, courtesy of The State’s editorial page editor Brad Warthen: “… I need to talk with someone to discuss the fact that y’all are supporting a black man for president of the United States. I am ASHAMED that we’ve got a newspaper in Columbia, South Carolina, one of the best cities in America, and ye...
Oh, the Bigotry of Bigotry
2008-01-24 17:25:00
Looking in the blog world of Atheism, again we have the use of the term bigotry. Dictionary.com defines bigotry as ?stubborn and complete intolerance of any creed, belief, or opinion that differs from one's own.?Coming from the title ?Bigotry Should Disqualify a Presidential Candidate? we have a discussion of:?Try to imagine what would happen if video got out in which one of the Presidential candidates used the dreaded "n-word." That campaign would be over in an instant. Why? Because that type of bigotry would not be tolerated and would be accepted by an overwhelming majority of the American people as grounds for disqualification. Unfortunately, other types of bigotry are not only accepted but are actually an important strategic component of many Republican campaigns. I long for the day when anti-gay and anti-atheist bigotry will disqualify a candidate as quickly as racism.?First off, I would like to note the simple fact of the comparison made by the writer: Race (whether African A...

The Spirit of Christmas and Religious Bigotry
2007-12-22 13:44:00
The thing that makes the left so insidious is that hidden among a multitude of untruths and bits of twisted logic are a few kernels of truth. Sometimes those truths are very hard to take – especially if we happen to be Christians and political conservatives. For example, here’s a quote from Alternate Brain (a lefty site)“Troutfishing at KosThey just can't help themselves, can they ? The Christmas spirit and religious bigotry, both eternal, are forever at odds but today's religious right dominated Republican Party seems to have gotten one confused for the other. That's not surprising, however, because the religious right of their day, the Puritans, started the Christian war on Christmas to advance the Puritan values of stinginess and religious bigotry, and the contemporary American GOP is sliding right back into that traditional groove. Somebody better call Bill O'Reilly - the war on Christmas has spread to the GOP. Or, maybe it started there. . . .”Do you agree that Trout...
