Bill Belichick & Girlfriend Linda Holliday Seen At Celtics Game
2008-06-04 07:33:00 New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick and his girlfriend Linda Holliday were seen together at game 5 of the NBA Eastern Conference Finals taking in the game. Bill Belichick has been fairly low key after watching his team crumble in last year's Super Bowl. The so-called Curse of The Bambino haunted the Red Sox fo15 Zoom(s)
A Patriot Fan's Thoughts on Spygate's End, Matt Walsh and The Boston Herald
2008-05-14 05:31:00 Matt Walsh, Matt Walsh, Matt Walsh? What can I say that hasn?t been said already by someone else, somewhere else, most likely in better English and maybe with a few added expletives?I?m actually not THAT mad at the mysterious Mr. Walsh.I discovered recently, through his own reported testimony and the stolen video tapes he returned to the NFL, that Matt Walsh didn?t attempt to destroy the Patriots? Super Bowl weekend. It wasn?t him. Sure, he did his part to ruin the first half of the offseason for Patriot fans. I mean, Matt, you didn?t have a Rams? walk-through tape. You KNEW, presumably, the entire time that you didn?t have a walk-through tape. Would it have killed you to say so? But I?m not holding that against him, and neither should anyone else. I?m still bitter against former employers that did far less than fire me for illegally taping conversations.I was once fired from a D'Angelo sub shop because I refused to wash the dishes after I completed my deliveries for the day ...
Patriots Draft Recap, Day Two: Pats Add Linebacker and Cornerback Depth
2008-04-28 03:13:00 The Patriots were able to add to next year?s draft by trading their first of three third round picks to the Chargers for a 2009 second round pick and a fifth round pick this year. I love that the Patriots are always looking to set themselves up for next year?s draft. It?s just one of the reasons why the New England Patriots are the most dominant team in the NFL right now. For a recap of day one, click here. Third Round Pick (78th overall): Shawn Crable, LB, MichiganCrable is a pass rushing outside linebacker with experience playing with his hand both on and off the ground. He?ll step right in as a situational pass rusher and a special teams contributor. He projects to an outside linebacker in the Patriots? system. He should benefit from learning behind Mike Vrabel, assuming Vrabel can get over the whole Michigan-Ohio State thing. All in all, a very good third round pick.Grade: A Third Round Pick (94th overall): Kevin O'Connell, QB, San Diego StateO?Connell was the highest rated...
Patriots Draft Recap, Day One: Mayo A Perfect Fit, Wheatley a Head Scratche
2008-04-27 07:40:00 The New England Patriots did what we all expected them to do, they shopped the number seven pick and sold it to the highest bidder. The highest bidder ended up being the New Orleans Saints, who wanted to ensure they could draft Sedrick Ellis. The trade moved the Patriots down three picks and netted them an additional third round pick (they also gave up their fifth round pick in the deal). After trading the pick, the Patriots went for a position we all expected, but a player nobody expected. First Round Pick: Jerod Mayo, LB, TennesseeI?m not sure anyone had the Patriots selecting Tennessee LB Jerod Mayo. Mayo is a very good player who can play at all three linebacker positions in the 4-3, and projects to an inside linebacker in the 3-4. He was an extremely productive player in college, and was ranked as the number two inside linebacker in the draft almost universally. Some NFL teams had him ranked higher than USC linebacker Keith Rivers, the Patriots claim they were one of them.I ...
South Park Crushes Bill Belichick

NFL Announces New Rules, Bill Belichick Frowns
2008-04-03 07:18:00 As it normally does after each controversy laden season, the NFL decided to tweak a few rules. What does it all mean? I shall tell you. Rule change #1: No more force out This is a rule change that had to be made, but mark it down now—it’s going to be problematic. The league’s goal is to remove judgment calls, but what will happen when a receiver jumps to catch a ball and the defensive back gets under him and carries him out of bounds? His feet never touch the ground. Was his forward progress stopped? Officials are still going to have to make judgment calls about that kind of stuff. My other problem with this rule is it will effect the game way more than people think. Generally there’s only one to two force out calls each game, but that’s because defensive backs aren’t trying force receivers out. Now that force outs are legal I think we’ll see 5 to 10 force out-related incompletions each game. Passing attacks will suffer. Rule change #...

Superbowl Recap: What Does 18-1 Really Mean?
2008-02-05 00:19:00 18-1. What does it mean? Sure, I was rooting for the Giants Sunday and sure I rooted against the Patriots almost any chance I got the entire season. However, what do we owe to 18-1? Is the season marked by the Superbowl loss?Unfortunately for the Patriots, they will forever be remembered as the team to go undefeated and lose in the Superbowl. It took 35 years to have another undefeated team with a perfect record going into the superbowl and it might be another 35+ before we see it happen again. It is indeed very possible that they go down as the only NFL team to EVER go 18-0 and lose in the superbowl in the history of the world. At a wide look, a Super Bowl loss looks bad for this Patriot dynasty. The '70s Steelers 4 for 4 in their Super Bowl appearances, as were the '80s 49ers. Thus I must say that Terry Bradshaw and Joe Montana are always going to have something over Tom Brady. But during those Steeler and 49er dynasties, there were years when they lost in the playoffs before re...

Super Bowl XLII Notes
2008-02-04 14:52:00 Everything has already been said and written about this year's New York Giants-New England Patriots Super Bowl, but I want to add my two cents anyway. If you were tired of Peyton Manning commercials, prepare yourself for many Eli Manning commercials or more advertisements featuring both Manning brothers. David Tyree's amazing catch was Swann-esque. (Swann as a wide reciever; not as a candidate for Pennsylvania's Governor.) In the third quarter, the Patriots had a 4th and 13 from the Giants 32 and decided to go for it. Why not try for a 49 or 50-yard field goal? If you have that little confidence that your 2nd year kicker can't make a field goal from that distance in a dome, you need to get a new kicker. Bill Belichick's short-sleeve sweatshirt looked silly. Earlier this week, Plaxico Burress predicted a 23-17 victory for his Giants. Tom Brady's response: "We're only going to score 17 points?" No, you only scored 14 points. When NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell came to the podium...

Random Musings: The Giants' Chances in Super Bowl XLII, Tom Brady's Ankle a
2008-01-28 05:20:00 Welcome to the NFL Super Bowl, err?Big Game bye week. Normally, it?s just practice for the off season. No NFL games, reduced to watching the NBA (on TNT), NHL (on OLN), college basketball (on ESPN and ESPN2), or professional curling (on ESPN 12)?it?s a nightmare to prepare us for the nightmarishly long NFL offseason. But it?s so much worse when your favorite team is in the big game.If you?re like me, you?re reduced to writing fake Tom Brady interviews (look, I?m sorry about the shameless self promotion, but I really, really need a new Patriot jersey with my name on the back).I also began writing the longest mock draft in the history of the Internet. So far, the Dolphins and Rams have made their selections (Glenn Dorsey and Jake Long respectively). I?ll probably get the next two picks up sometime this week.View article...

Super Patriots: Ranking the Super Bowl Teams
2008-01-25 03:29:00 I was asked today which Patriots Super Bowl team is my favorite. That's like asking me to pick which of my children is my favorite ? or which Seasonal Sam Adams brew I like the best. It's nearly impossible to choose. That said, I'm suffering from a massive case of writer's block tonight (no beer left, can't think without beer). Since I have no ideas of my own, I figured I'd give it a shot.I'm leaving the 1985 Patriots off the list for a couple of reasons:1) I can't take any team quarterbacked by Tony Eason seriously.2) I was 6-years-old.3) The Patriots weren't the best team in the AFC that season, they just caught an overconfident Miami Dolphins team in the AFC championship.4) Because of the 1985 Patriots, the Super Bowl Shuffle, Mike Ditka, and Refrigerator Perry all live on. I cannot forgive them for this. It's amazing, after suffering through a 1-15 season, a 2-14 season, coaches like Pete Carroll, Rod Rust, etc. that I'm actually discussing my favorite Patriots Super Bow...
NFL Conference Championship Redux: Patriots, Giants Punch Their Tickets to
2008-01-22 04:07:00 Slowing recovering from a massive celebratory hangover. Where to start? At approximately 5:30 PM on Sunday, I ran out of fingernails. In desperation, I made the switch to toenails, which caused me to pull a hamstring (my four year old makes it look so easy). When that happened I had no choice but to start drinking heavily.OK, I was already drinking heavily, but at least at that point I had a legit reason.Click here for the rest of the article.
The NFL Picks Column: Conference Championship Edition
2008-01-17 06:20:00 NFL Conference Championship weekend, Patriots playing at home, Peyton Manning watching himself during the commercial breaks on TV from home, Brett Favre has a chance to go to another Super Bowl, and (most importantly) SeanMC has graduated from Analyst to Columnist here at Bleacher Report! It just doesn?t get any better than this. I?m assuming this promotion comes with a significant pay raise. I?ll have to speak to the editors later this week. (Who runs this place, anyway?) I think 20% would be about right. (What?s 20% of $0?) To celebrate my promotion, I decided to go all classy and light up a fancy cigar (Don Pepin Garcia-Black label) and crack open an expensive bottle of wine (Sutter Home Merlot, bottled in the scenic?umm?Wal-Mart vineyards). That?s right, a $10 cigar and a $4 bottle of wine. Giddy-up! Click here for the rest of the column.
2007 NFL Divisional Round Playoff Preview
2008-01-12 19:25:00 NFCSEA Seahawks at GB PackersThis should be a really good game. Matt Hasselback will try to live down the whole, "we want the ball, we're gunna score" thing while trying to get over the .500 mark (sitting 4-4 for his playoff career). I will obviously be rooting for the Packers and, I will admit that I would rather have had them play the Redskins than the Seahawks. However, I'm pretty confident that Favre gets another big win in his playoff career. As long as the Packers can protect Favre from the likes of Kerney, Peterson, and Tatupu they should be victorious. I just think that the Seahawks aren't quite good enough. Shaun Alexander has not been impressive at all and I don't really see him being able to run the ball against the Packers' front 7. Side note: The Seahawks had the easiest schedule in football: their opponents had an adjusted combined record of 100-140. Are they a paper tiger in that sense?.....a little bit.Prediction: GB 27 SEA 14 NY Giants at DAL CowboysEli Manning...

The NFL Picks Column: Wild Card Edition
2008-01-04 08:17:00 Apparently, I've graduated from "Scribe" to "Analyst" at Bleacher Report. In celebration, I got stupid-drunk and wrote this wonderful picks column! In case you missed it, I've been pretty busy this week. I tried to provide hope to the hopeless by telling everyone why their teams were going to win this weekend. My first 2 part Bleacher Report column (part 1: NFC and part 2: AFC)!Now that I'm done shilling my own work, here's a couple of quick NFL news related items before I get to the picks:It's good to see the voters getting the post-season NFL awards correct for a change. So far Adrian Peterson winning offensive rookie of the year, with Joe Thomas in second, was right on the money. And Bill Belichick winning coach of the year was surprising considering how many people he ticked off, but dead right. How can you go 16-0 and not win coach of the year?Cam Cameron, we hardly knew ye. I'm just glad Parcells stayed away from the New England front office and coaching staff.I still th...

The first coach since Don Shula in 1972 to lead his team through a spotless regular season, Belichick won the award Thursday for the second time in four years."Peter here. And this is to Bill. "WOW!! Patriot Perfection!
2007-12-30 09:19:00 Haven't posted here in a couple of days, but I have been busy.Wrote my week 17 picks column for Bleacher Report, my first column for Sports-Central on the evil cable companies and their battle with the NFL, and just finished gushing about the Patriots undefeated regular season.Honestly, I'm still in shock. The Patriots fell behind by 12 in the 3rd quarter and for the first time this year I really believed they were going to lose. They had EVERYTHING going against them and tons of pressure. And they responded. They played 10 minutes of great football and that was all it took to beat an NFC playoff team.Unbelievable.
2007 in Review, pt. 4: The agony of defeat?
2007-12-28 17:21:00 Hi, and welcome to day four of our 2007 review. Today’s topic - the year in sports. And what a year it was - great competition, exciting on-field action, outstanding team accomplishments, and all of it trumped by off-field drama. Barry B*nds: The real homerun king is Hank Aaron, and don’t you forget it. It wasn’t a pretty summer in sports, and the ugliest of the ugly was this roided-up icon of arrogance and entitlement. He may go to jail and he may not, but rest assured, nobody is ever going to write a Field of Dreams-style epic about him. Let this be a lesson, kids - flaxseed oil is for losers. In other news, some of Barry B*nds supporters called our anti-Barry hatred racism. Hank Aaron was reportedly stunned to learn that he’s been white all these years. All About A-Rod: AAA-Rod set a new Major League record for Bush League plays. He finally decideed that he belongs in a Yankee uniform. We couldn’t agree more. Floyd Landis: Stripped of his Tour de Fra...
The NFL Picks Column - Week 15
2007-12-15 07:57:00 Last Week?s Record: 11 - 4Click here for last week?s picks.Thursday Recap:I refuse to do an NFL picks column on a Wednesday night. Too many things can happen between then and Sunday. So I?ll never get a picks column written in time to pick the Thursday night game. I also bowl on Thursday nights, which makes it hard to even watch the games since the Bowling alley doesn?t get the NFL Network (thank you Comcast!). Lucky for us, I was snowed in Thursday night, and I DO have the NFL Network.A couple of quick thoughts on Houston?s big win:1) Mario Williams is already better player than Reggie Bush or Vince Young will ever become.2) When Sage Rosenfels is picking you apart, you?re not a playoff team.3) Andre Johnson might be the best WR in football. Until he gets a real quarterback, we?ll never know for sure.4) Darius Walker has a future in the NFL. Had he stayed in school another year, he would have been a second or third round running back.5) I?ve seen John Elway. I watched John Elway pl...
Statement Game
2007-12-10 02:46:00 What a fun game to watch. From Brady trash talking Anthony Smith and James Harrison after that first Moss touchdown to that ridiculous double-lateral TD pass to Gaffney, it was entertaining from start to finish.Someone just checking box scores after the game would think that the Steelers had some success running the ball. And they did, but not when it mattered. Good bounce-back performance for the Pats' linebacking core.I thought the Steelers came in with a pretty good game plan. They were greatly aided by some aggressive play calling in the 2nd quarter. Going for it on 4th down twice to get into field goal range probably kept them in the game longer than they would have stayed in it otherwise.10 Observations from the game:1) The Patriots defensive line had a really good bounce-back game. They were able to put pressure on Roethlisberger and keep Parker contained for most of the game.2) When Mike Vrabel wants to get to the quarterback, he?s nearly unstoppable. He bothered Roethlisbe...

Bill Belichick Also Apparently Coaches High School Football In Kansas
2007-10-31 19:15:00 If you think playing against the Patriots is bad, try taking your high school football team to Smith Center, Kansas sometime.Smith Center scored 72 points in the first quarter of a high school football game Tuesday night on the way to an 86-0 win over Plainville.Smith Center forced six turnovers in the first quarter as it racked up what is believed to be a record for points in a quarter by a high school team, the paper reported. The previous record was 66 by Prescott, Ariz., in 1925.It was nice of them to call off the dogs after scoring just 72 in the first quarter. But really what were they supposed to do? Start kneeling down in the first quarter? Put the cheerleaders in on offense? By the way, you just know these boys are gettin' laid.By the way, they have outscored their opponents 640-0 this season. I think it's time for them to play the Patriots.(AP)STUB HUB: The Safe Way to Buy & Sell Tickets Online
Randy Moss "Smartest Receiver I've Ever Coached" - Bill Belichick
2007-10-30 23:01:00 When people would talk about Randy Moss in negative terms, I replied on more than one occasion, that he was smart and offensive coordinators would be intelligent to talk with him.Of course, many were not.Enter New England Patriots' Coach Bill Belichick. Coach Belichick -- I believed -- would allow Randy Moss to be, well, Randy Moss. The Oakland Raiders did not understand how to get the best out of him and seemed to be all too concerned about controlling him and not giving him the best environment he needed to play in. There are some people who can't get passed skin color and see a person's talent. They let stereotypes block their thinking -- not Bill Belichick. He called Randy Moss the "Smartest Receiver I've Ever Coached." Hat's off to him.
New England Patriots' Bill Belichick Runs Up Score Seven Times in Seven Wee
2007-10-29 08:40:00 In his latest game against the Washington Redskins, New England Patriots Head Coach Bill Belichick kept his starters in and went for it on 4th down after already leading by 38 points, 38-0. This practice lead to a 52-7 victory, and a very pissed off Washington Redskin in Randall Godfrey. He said "I said something to (Belichick) after the game," Godfrey said to NBCSports.com. "I told him, 'You need to show some respect for the game.' You just don't do that. I don't care how bad it is. You're up 35 points and you're still throwing deep? That's no respect."He's right. Bill Belichick's comments were robotic: "I've been coaching too long," Belichick said. "I remember being on that side. When I was coaching defense it was my job to keep the score down, not theirs. When you're playing defense it's your job to stop them. It's not (the offense's) job to not score. It's like I tell the offense, what the (bleep) do you think I send you guys out there for? To punt? High School Sports - The Bastion Of Innocence?
2007-10-05 15:34:00 You'll often hear people complain about the state of professional and college sports, citing the Mike Vick's, Bill Belichick's and Barry Bonds' of the world. These individuals proclaim with vigor that the only pure athletic endeavors take place on the fields of local high schools.Obviously, that's a load of bullshit:- Nothing like a little recruiting scandal to get us going. The Sacramento Bee recently had a story about a coach in Stockton, California named Tom Verner, and his desperation to win. Seems he went all the way to the American Samoa islands (which are closer to Australia than the U.S.) to pay for players and their families to come to the U.S. and play football for him:"Tom Verner face allegations of luring at least 10 players from American Samoa to block and tackle and win football games. This and That: Bill Belichick Pulling the Wool Over Our Eyes?
2007-09-14 05:01:00 For many years, the New England Patriots have the been darlings of the media and the NFL.Now things may not be what they seem.Long story short: "NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has determined that the Patriots violated league rules by videotaping defensive signals from Jets coaches in the teams' regular-season opener. Goodell fined coach Bill Belichick Thursday and the team a total of $750,000. The team also has been told to forfeit draft choices." (ESPN)Yikes. Maybe he's not a genius after all? That's not surprising, considering their head coach, Bill Belichick, is a man who would sell his children to the highest bidder if it guaranteed him another Super Bowl win.And yes, Patriots fans (some of you, at least), we know it's just the evil media and jealous fan bases making this a much bigger story than it is. Because Billy Belichick can do no wrong. Look, you and Bill Simmons can make your excuses, but just know you're exactly the same as the folks in San Francisco (some of them) who will cling to the notion that Barry Bonds has never done steroids. The Patriots have long been suspected of cheating, but like many other sports, football is a fraternity, and unless you knew something for a fact, you didn't reveal you suspicions. Since the Patriots were caught in the act of videotaping other teams signals, nobody had to snitch o...
Bill Belichick and the Pats cheated.
2007-09-13 13:28:00 This first week of action in the NFL is over but there was lots to talk about. First Kevin Everett's serious spine injury: The news are very good for him. Everett is said that he moved his lower extremities by himself yesterday and is likely to walk again. Now another big story went out during the course of the week. The New England Patriots and their head coach Bill Belichick are now facing espionnage charges from the NFL.The NFL security department have seazed a camera and a tape that was held by an employee as he was filming the New-York Jets' defensive coordinator during the course of the game. A game that the Patriots won 38-14.A NFL rule stipulates that any kind of espionnage during the course of a game is totally illegal. The NFL commissionner, Roger Goodell, said that severe sanctions will be taken against the Patriots. A huge fine is expected as well as the loss of many draft picks.I cannot believe that a serious and talented team like the Patriots did in fact cheated. Wit...

CameraGate? SpyGate? Patriot Games? [J. Mark English]
2007-09-13 03:28:00 Call it what you want, but the New England Patriots being caught cheating is bizarre. Bill Simmons, the Sports Guy, has more:For the past 24 hours, since CameraGate was exposed, I've been trying to think of a good excuse for Bill Belichick and the Patriots. There has to be a good excuse, right? So why couldn't I think of one? How could I save them from America's scorn? How could I remove those three asterisks from the Super Bowl titles? Even when I channeled my inner O.J. and decided, "If Belichick did cheat in the Jets game, it's only because he loved the Jets too much," it didn't quite work. The truth is, there's probably no saving the Pats. Everyone outside New England was searching for a legitimate reason to hate them for the past four years, and now they have an excellent one. Spying on opponent's signals is just plain seedy. It's one step above playing footsie with someone in an airport men's room. It's a disgrace. It's embarrassing. Even though everyone probably ch...

Bill Belichick is Not Evil- All Teams Do It !
2007-09-12 23:47:00 Come on fans, stop whining about the gamesmanship of the Patriots in the NFL. All teams try and get an advantage, and whomever ratted him out is the true tattler-turncoat. He will get it back 3 fold when the time comes, history does not favor tattle tales. Just because Belichick is smarter than most coaches, ...
NFL Uni Notes [J. Mark English]
2007-09-09 22:24:00 The "C" on the uniforms look kinda cheesy. I mean is the NFL trying to mimic the NHL? Why not just stitch up an "A" on the uniforms for the assistant captains as well!Notice the plethora of patches being worn by teams this year marking some sort of anniversary year? The Redskins, the Packers, and the Eagles so far have them on. I'm sure there are other teams as well, but I haven't watched every game yet. (And I won't be, but I'm just making a point...)The Jets wore their away whites at home today. Was that to make them cooler in the summer heat? Man, Mangini and Belichick really despise each other. The Chargers new uniforms look sleek and yet old school at the same time. I just wish they'd put the numbers on the helmets like when they used to wear the baby blue jersey.Oh and are the green dots on the back of the QB helmets really necessary? The green dot designate the player on the field that can communicate through a wireless device to the sideline. But we all know it...

2007-04-05 17:12:00 After our failed attempt to track down Bill Belichick’s latest lady, we’re going to leave it up to the experts. The Inside Track girls are the Boston Herald have tracked down the real Linda Holliday that was spotted with Bill Belichick at the Final ...
[NFL] So who was the blonde with Bill Belichick?
2007-04-04 21:06:00 We were going to originally put this in the Odds and Ends column for today but once in a while, we like to get all US Weekly up in here. While the Boston Herald Inside Track girls were the first to post about Bill “Ladykiller” Belichick and an ...
Nick Saban is Bill Belichick?s Mistress Again
2007-03-08 11:17:01 You had to wonder why the Patriots were so hard after Wes Welker and Sammy Morris. I just can’t picture Tom Brady sitting back in his lazy boy chair with a glass of wine and women standing around him with large fans made of out peacock feathers going, “Get me Wes Welker and Sammy Morris, that will take the load off and help me win another Superbowl!” Surely the Patriots had another thing in mind when throwing the bank at little proven Wes Welker, only to lose 2 draft picks to the Dolphins. Either Bill Belichick knows his expiring contract won’t be renewed next year and this is his last hurrah with the Pats or he got some juice on Wes and Sammy from a good old buddy from the South. From Gregg Rosenthal’s Off Season Lowdown… Saban inevitably gave an insider’s scouting report for Sammy Morris and Wes Welker before the Patriots acquired them. Maybe he knows something helpful about LSU’s Dwayne Bowe from recruiting him. Either way, look...
