Bill Hall Hopes For Trade
2008-06-03 01:40:00
According to Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, third baseman Bill Hall would prefer to be traded.  He's unhappy about losing playing time to Russell Branyan, and believes his willingness to switch positions in each of the last two seasons should've bought him more latitude.  Hall, 28, is hitting .225/.295/.418 in 201 plate appearances.  He's a year removed from his last .800+ OPS month.  Would positional stability help Hall return to his 35 home run form?  Will any team have the patience to find out?  Hall earns $4.8MM this year, $6.8MM in '09, and $8.4MM in '10 (with a $9.25MM option for '11).  I can't imagine much of a trade market for him given his recent hitting.  Can you think of a team with a need at third or short that would make sense for Hall?
Brewers? Bill Hall bristles at 3B platoon (AP)
2008-05-28 02:02:00
Bill Hall has patiently gone along with the Milwaukee Brewers’ ever-changing plans for him in the field, switching from utility player to center fielder to third baseman over the past three seasons. Now he wishes his team would be more patient with his struggles at the plate against right-handed pitching. Read the full story.

Bill Hall To Rebound?
2008-04-02 18:53:00
In watching the Brewers post-game show, Bill Hall thinks that his hitting regressed last year as he struggled to adjust to playing the OF. In 2006 Bill Hall his 35 homers, scored 101 times and drove in 85 runs.In 2007, Hall's AVG dropped from .270 to .253 and homered only 14 times. The transition from 3B to OF also plagued Chipper Jones for a year or so as well.Hall could be onto something but that remains to be seen.Hall has gone undrafted this year in many leagues because he lost his 3B eligibility and was a complete bust last year.If Hall thinks he's adjusted now he could be primed for a rebound. 20-25 homers would be realistic but a repeat of 35 seems like a longshot.

Odds and Ends: Lowell, Sabathia, Polanco
2007-11-08 22:12:00
I'm going to start up a catch-all Odds and Ends post for smaller rumors and notes today.  Refresh to see it grow. A reader emailed me to tell me that Buster Olney said on XM Radio recently that there are talks of the Twins going after Scott Rolen.  These reports can be tough to confirm, but there you go.  UPDATE: Joe Christensen squashes this one. Mark Feinsand doesn't think Epstein is keen on giving Mike Lowell even a three-year contract.  He might get five on the open market.  UPDATE: The Red Sox apparently have a three-year offer out to him, and he's still mulling it over. The White Sox inquired about Bill Hall, but Kenny Williams and Doug Melvin couldn't find a match. Baseball America weighs in on the Brad Lidge trade.  BP's Nate Silver gives his opinion here and here.  He thinks the Phillies made a mistake. The Astros have contacted Jeremy Affeldt's agent.  Also, Jim Molony speculates in this piece that speedy Josh Anderson could be...
Odds and Ends: Cook, Benoit, Griffey, Riske
2007-11-01 02:59:00
Some random tidbits that didn't get their own posts today... The Rockies picked up Aaron Cook's $4.5MM option as expected.  The bigger question is whether they can sign him long-term, maybe for three years.  They also passed on LaTroy Hawkins for $3.75MM but may still sign him. The Rangers agreed to a two-year contract with reliever Joaquin Benoit for two years and $6MM.  He would've hit free agency after 2008.  Smart move would be to let him rack up 10-15 saves next season and then trade him for something good.  The Braves aren't expected to get their next center fielder through free agency, and Terence Moore suggests trading for Ken Griffey Jr. to fill the position.  More reasonable targets might be David DeJesus or Coco Crisp. The Royals may yet retain David Riske, who wants a multiyear deal and would like to stay.  They'll definitely offer him arbitration, since he's a Type B free agent.  Also, longtime Royal Mike Sweeney might fina...

Bill Hall: Potential for double-digit steals?
2007-03-27 19:22:00
New Milwaukee base running coach Ed Sedar predicted that Rickie Weeks and Corey Hart will not be the only Brewers with double-digit stolen base totals this season; Prince Fielder and Bill Hall, the likely Nos. 3 and 4 hitters, could get there, too. It?s hard to imagine the 260-pound Fielder going crazy on the base paths, though he could conceivably steal a few more bases than the average lead-footed first baseman if given the green light. Hall, on the other hand, swiped 18 bags in 2005 before dipping to eight last year, so he could be primed to once again contribute more in that category. Source: MLB.com
