Well look who landed at the Weekly Standard: Obama Reinforces McCain Campaign Talking Points The campaign should really start sending out carbon-offset and organic soap gift baskets because every time a Democrat talks, things seem to get a little brighter for them. Earlier this week, it was Joe Biden admitting Hillary might have been a better VP pick than him. Today, it’s Obama denigrating his all-talk service in the Senate so others don’t have to. Here he is responding to a reporter question about whether Dems have belittled small-town mayors in going after Palin’s service: “We’ve had an awful lot of small town mayors at the Democratic Convention, I assure you,” Obama said. “I meet them all the time. The mayors have some of the toughest jobs in the country because that’s where the rubber hits the road. You know, we yak in the Senate. They actually have to fill potholes and trim trees and make sure the garbage is taken away.” Pos...

Weekly Standard Editor: President Bush Will Attack Iran Without Authorization From Congress If Barack Obama Begins To Smoke Señor Panama John McCain In The Polls Well, to be honest, Bill Kristol didn’t exactly admit the fact that should President “Surge” W. Bush choose to attack Iran at his own discretion minus the (so-called) “New Democratic” Congress’ consent, it would be yet another felony; perhaps even prosecutable as a “war crime”. Not a “small fact”, that one, by the way. Yep, good ole’ “Billy Boy” just skipped over that part; just hinted that his fellow neoconservative pals in the White House might just be prone to asserting those “Kingly Executive” powers to wage a war against Iran if it were to look “bad” for the ONLY Panamanian-born U.S. Senator and/or presidential “wannabe” in the history of the United States of America — Señor McCain. McCain: Strange Agent
2008-06-09 12:56:00
Conservative Repub Bill Kristol wringing his hands in today's NYT: "They could have done so well tonight, shown a tone of confidence. Instead it looks like a bad Congressional race: dumb green puke background, small crowd ... Makes me want to cry.? Soon after Republicans finished shedding tears of frustration, Democrats were weeping tears of joy. Obama spoke about an hour later in a packed sports arena in St. Paul, Minn. His speech was well written and well delivered. In any case, with the battle against Hillary Clinton behind him, everything seems to be going swimmingly for Obama. Meanwhile, the McCain campaign dog-paddles along. And almost every Republican I?ve talked to is alarmed that the McCain campaign doesn?t seem up to the task of electing John McCain.Relax, Bill. McCain Attacks Obama at AIPAC
2008-06-03 10:14:00
On Monday, John McCain picked a bi-partisan conference for the American Israel Public Affairs Committee as his stage to attack his likely opponent, Barack Obama. McCain?s personal attack on a candidate by name was a first for the AIPAC conference and took many of the people there by surprise. The crowd sounded somewhat receptive to his words, cheering loudly at the comments on Iran which has threatened to destroy Israel. McCain tried to pin Obama as too soft on Iran and told the crowd that his position on the measure to declare the Iranian Revolutionary Guard a terrorist state, was the wrong one to have. ?We hear talk of a meeting with the Iranian leadership offered up as if it were some sudden inspiration, a bold new idea that somehow nobody has ever thought of before. Yet it?s hard to see what such a summit with President Ahmadinejad would actually gain, except an earful of anti-Semitic rants, and a worldwide audience for a man who denies one Holocaust and talks...

Tonight a hypermanic Keith Olbermann waxed ponderous and condescending in a "Special Comment" to clarify last week's eye-glazing ponderous "Special Comment" on Bush and (surprise) Iraq, Iran, "appeasment," Obama et al. The #1 Story: Keith. It was to appease (or MSNBC forced Olbermann) the right-wing lugnuts in Tee Vee Land who Keith claims are too dumb and rabid to get when he referred to Bush and his henchmen as "cold blooded killers" he didn't mean (duh) our troops. Olbermann WatchOlbermann laid off O'Reilly tonight and instead targeted conservatives Ollie North, Bill Kristol, and "comedian" Rush Limbaugh, Laura Ingraham and Mark Levin. Let's go to the videotape. Perhaps MSNBC brass ordered him to cool it on O'Reilly after the juicy anonymous-sourced speculation leaked by NBC piece to Howard Kurtz.
Hillary: Shrink Rapped
2008-04-28 16:23:00
The Wash Post consults a shrink to explain why Hillary's not bailing: The interests of a candidate pitted against the collective interest of his or her party -- shows up in many economic and political domains and is sometimes called the "tragedy of the commons." Individuals embroiled in similar dilemmas find them impossible to solve on their own, because they are confronted by a Hobson's Choice: Act selfishly and cause collective disaster, or act altruistically and aid someone else who is acting selfishly. Either way, selfishness wins."The way the system is set up, the more-selfish person has a higher probability of winning," social psychologist W. Keith Campbell said of the Democratic primary. "You end up with the more narcissistic, belligerent candidate."What's next? A psychic? Hill's new campaign anthem? "Against All Odds" Phil Collins. NYDN Bill Clinton "doesn't like Obama." New Yorker But the serial narcissist sure likes himself... NBC's political director Chuck Todd: "N...

William Kristol and the New York Times
2008-01-07 21:27:00
Bill Kristol is now an editorialist for The New York Times. While this may be the greatest business decision by the Times in the last decade, it still demonstrates how one-sided the Times? is. The only way to describe the Times is that its staff appears to write articles and editorials for themselves rather than the people actually reading the paper. This bias may not be intentional; but, there... Click the Headline Link to Visit Copious Dissent and Read the Full Story.
Bill Kristol: President Mike Huckabee?
2008-01-07 17:10:00
Thank you, Senator Obama. You?ve defeated Senator Clinton in Iowa. It looks as if you?re about to beat her in New Hampshire. There will be no Clinton Restoration. A nation turns its grateful eyes to you. But gratitude for sparing us a third Clinton term only goes so far. Who, inquiring minds want to know, is going to spare us a first Obama term? After all, for all his ability and charm, Barack Obama is still a liberal Democrat. Some of us would much prefer a non-liberal and non-Democratic administration. We don?t want to increase the scope of the nanny state, we don?t want to undo the good done by the appointments of John Roberts and Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court, and we really don?t want to snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory in Iraq. For me, therefore, the most interesting moment in Saturday night?s Republican debate at St. Anselm College was when the candidates were asked what arguments they would make if they found themselves running against Obama in the general elec...

The alternate universe of Bill Kristol
2007-11-13 05:59:00
Just how strange is the alternate universe of Bill Kristol? He thinks that Joe Lieberman as the Vice Presidential Candidate would save the Republicans is 2008. Eunomia explains just how idiotic this is. What Kristol proposes is that nominating Lieberman would create the conditions for such a massive victory for the Republicans, when the woes of the latter are closely tied to the foreign policy decisions that constitute the chief reason why Kristol admires Lieberman and thinks he should be a VP nominee. In short, the very things that make Lieberman attractive to interventionists in the GOP are the things that make the rest of us want to run screaming from the room. Adding Lieberman to a ticket that already included a candidate who blathers about ?Islamofascism? or takes an ueber-hawkish line on Iran would be the closest thing to a deliberate act of self-destruction by a party that we would have ever seen.

GOP Nomination Race: Bill Kristol Thinks it's Breaking in the Direction of
2007-11-04 23:24:00
The editor of Weekly Standard William Kristol thinks the GOP nomination race might be breaking in the direction of Mike Huckabee and John McCain. A week ago I suggested the Republican presidential contest could legitimately be considered a five-way race. Now a new Washington Post/ABC national poll has Giuliani at 33 percent (down 1 point from a month ago), McCain at 19 percent (up 7), Thompson at 16 percent (down 1), Romney at 11 percent (unchanged), and Huckabee at 9 percent (up 1). The Rasmussen tracking poll, which has a much tighter screen for GOP primary voters (and is probably more meaningful), has Giuliani at 21 percent (down 2 from a month-ago), Thompson at 17 percent (down 5), McCain at 15 percent (up 3), Romney at 12 percent (down 2), and Huckabee at 12 percent (up 7). In both polls, the "second tier" candidates, McCain and Huckabee, are gaining, and the "first tier" candidates aren't. What's more, in Iowa Huckabee is now in a tie for second place (in the RealClearPo...
Gore?s Peace Prize Renews Same Old Calls
2007-10-17 06:44:00
Former United States Vice President Al Gore addresses a crowd in Palo Alto, Texas after begin awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Photo by REUTERS.After Al Gore won the Nobel Peace Prize last week the age old question was asked again, ?will Al Gore run for president??The answer is still no and the question is still as ridiculous. Al Gore has no intention of running for president. The same question was asked after he won an Oscar, then the Emmy, and now the Nobel.Nothing has changed. It would be an impossible and awkward position for Gore to put himself in running against Hillary Clinton whose husband he served under as vice president. All of the same political friends and donors have already gone Clinton?s way with only a few months before the primaries begin. There is also no lack of political stars in the Democratic field and no reason for him to jump into such a crowded field.A new Gallup Poll conducted over the weekend found that only 41 percent of Americans wanted Gore to run for ...
Bill Kristol: Despite the Gloom and Doom Predictions, Republicans Will Win
2007-10-13 20:29:00
Republicans are downcast, depressed, and demoralized. Bush is unpopular. Cheney is even more unpopular. Scandals continue to bedevil congressional Republicans, and it's hard to see the GOP taking back either the House or Senate in 2008. History suggests it's not easy to retain the White House after eight years in power (viz. the elections of 1960, 1968, 1976, and 2000). And the Republican presidential candidates seem problematic, each in his own way. Meanwhile, the Clinton coronation proceeds apace. Normally sensible commentators discourse on her Hamiltonian qualities and on today's liberals' Burkean ways. (If Hamilton and Burke weren't so used to having their memories misappropriated, they'd be spinning in their graves.) The American people, it's presumed, are too befogged by the mainstream media to see through pathetic Democratic stunts like rolling out a not-poor 12-year-old to read a radio script making the case for government-provided health insurance for allegedly p...

Is it time yet?In March of 2003, highly paid stuffed suit Bill Kristol puffed important when he solemnly declared,A time will come to scrutinize our government's management of the war's aftermath, its equivocations on democracy in Iraq, its inadequate defense budget, and much else. But for now, at this moment of historic opportunity and national resolve, we simply pray for the president, his advisers, and our brave men and women in uniform. June 2003, Bill Kristol,For that matter, the notion that the Bush administration really, really, in its heart of hearts, had other, preferred reasons for taking out Saddam Hussein--particularly, that it did so to justify removing its troops from Saudi Arabia--and that the entire war was therefore a fraud . . . well, this idea, too, is crackpot. In May, 2004, it was this,We do not know how close the American effort in Iraq may be to irrecoverable failure. There's almost no evidence of that at all. Iraq's always been very secular."~Willaim Kristol, April 4th, 2003There may be people who have been wrong as often as Bill Kristol but there can't be anyone who has been wrong more often.
