Thoughts on Billy Donovan and Write On Sports
2007-06-06 21:38:00
First I would like to start off with that I am now writing for Write On Sports along with TSF. My first article is up and you can locate it here: Memphis resurgence?.Now to my thoughts on Billy Donovan. This deal was very interesting, personally, I think he had to stay in the state of Florida or at least go to New York, where he's from and get the Knick job. He had to stay in Florida, so it would be the Miami Heat or Orlando Magic job or else he stays at Florida.I can see why he went there in the first place, the Magic is a young team, not to mention star Dwight Howard, along with plenty of cap room. I definitely could have seen him one day leading the Magic to an NBA Championship. When Donovan went back to a Florida press-conference I think that's what did it for him, he realized he can't believe why he is leaving. I am sure he thought to himself "how can I leave all of this behind". And that gave him second thoughts.Donovan is a great coach and now that he will be back at Flori...
Thursday Night, I'll Be At Dinner with Billy Donovan. Tell Me What To Ask H
2007-06-06 01:36:00
This Thursday night, I'm going to a fund raiser for the Student Athletes organization. You can see more about it here. One of the honorees is Billy Donovan. Yes, the same Billy Donovan who is coach of the Florida Gators Orlando Magic Florida Gators. There's a slight, slight, slight chance that
Former Gators/Current Bucs talk about Billy Donovan Situation
2007-06-06 01:31:00
The Bucs Beat supplies us with a couple Gator Nation quotes from todays OTA session. Defensive End Kevin Carter had this to say about his alma maters coaching situation: "I think he [Billy Donovan] realizes the best school in the known universe, the best place to be a college coach, is right there in Gainesville," Carter said. "I don't know why anybody would ever leave" The best "known school in the universe" ... the University of Florida? Nah, Florida State is clearly, ahhh you do have the tie-breaker over us. I'll conceed for now. Wide Receiver Ike Hilliard had a similar take to that of DE Kevin Carter: "I still bleed orange and blue. If he goes back it will be great for the university. Obviously, the kids are going to come and want to play for him." As far as the Billy Donovan situation goes ... I was ecstatic to hear that he decided to leave UF and join my Orlando Magic and I was angered (and not surprised, believe it or not) to hear that he wanted to leave Orlando and he...

The NBA looks to ban Billy Donovan for 5 years if he leaves his Orlando con
2007-06-05 09:56:00
It looks like the NBA is stepping in to show Donovan and others who think that they can sign a contract and not honor it what happens if they decide to back out.  How about a 5 year ban from the NBA.  I think that something has to be done to prevent people from having ...
Donovan Performs Disappearing Trick on Magic [Michael Vinciguerra]
2007-06-05 01:53:00
Billy Donovan, who coached the Florida Gators to 2 straight national titles; notified the Orlando Magic he would fill their coaching void. Now, Donovan is having second thoughts about this coaching position. Over the weekend, Donovan informed the University of Florida and Orlando Magic he began having second thoughts about this position. Donovan wants to return to his original head coaching position with the Florida Gators, but only if it was that easy.Donovan signed a 5 year $27.5 million contract, in which he admitted to being emotionally conflicted as he signed the deal. However, the contract he signed is the source of the conflict and the decision of where to proceed from here is to be ultimately decided by the Orlando Magic. If the Magic decide to allow Donovan to escape the deal, they have to decide whether to enforce a financial penalty. However, the Magic are still trying to convince Donovan to follow through with the contract he committed himself to. Meanwhile, Florida's se...
Billy Donovan pulls U-turn on Route 75
2007-06-04 15:14:00
Somebody grab the white-out. Billy Donovan just jumped ship in Orlando-- and can anybody blame him? Dude was about to commit career suicide by leaving his back-to-back college basketball powerhouse for one of the worst franchises in the NBA. He initially went with the "I want the challenge of coaching in the association" bit, now he's changed his act to the "My heart is with this university" deal. I don't doubt that either of these played a role in his decision, but keep in mind that it's about money. It's always been and always will be about money. In this case, Bill didn't fall for the big payoff. If he stays in Gainesville, there's no risk. Dude is already a hero in that town and how freaking easy would it be to recruit blue chippers in sunny FLA? Apparently he doesn't need to be challenged that badly after all.. and I get it. Who wouldn't want to kick back in their ivory tower and reel in high school stud after high school stud? Ask Pete Carroll if he'd like another go a...

Billy Donovan Remembers his Youth

Seven years averaging $3.5 million per year. Eddie Munster is all grown up and that?s the deal that he could be close to signing at the University of Florida.
Why in h-e-double-hockeysticks would Billy Donovan leave Florida?
2007-04-03 23:38:00
I mean, I guess there are 1 million reasons why, but the fact is that Billy Donovan is going to have a much easier time at the University of Florida than he ever would at Kentucky. A lot of this has been said before, I suppose, but what are the potential factors that go into a decision like
