The company is one of the leading identity protection and security firms."The company provides biometric systems at both the federal and state levels in the U.S., as well as for governments around the world."Wall Street has given this firm a rough ride recently, but it’s not because of any negative changes in its business. Plus, it has very little competition and continues to grow both internally and through acquisitions."We’re- also paying attention to the ton of insider buying this year – most notably, the 879,200 shares that CEO Robert LaPenta has snapped up since mid February at a total cost of $4.1 million."With firms like L-1 it’s important to remember the long-term potent...

2008-10-08 17:01:00 From CNET News.com: Is the idea of widespread biometric data collection still too spooky to win over the American public? At some level, it's already becoming commonplace: California and some other states demand fingerprints from driver's license holders. The Verified Identity P

A Step Back for Biometrics
2008-03-24 14:10:00 The debate over BAA’s proposal to fingerprint passengers at Heathrow’s new fifth terminal is a sign of the times. It’s part of the growing dilemma of how to optimise the balance between security, privacy and convenience. BAA claim that the extra security measure is needed to authenticate that the person arriving at a gate is the same one that checked in, thereby preventing domestic passengers from switching boarding passes with international travellers in the shared passenger lounge. Passport checks are clearly not sufficient, so just how do you design a system that's fast, easy, reliable and secure? Fingerprints seem a reasonable approach, especially if the system is secure and they’re thrown away after 24 hours (though one has to question whether four of them need to be taken). A few years ago, the Co-op retail supermarket trialled fingerprint reading with customers without any great fuss. At the time they claimed it to be "the least squeamish and the most acceptable...

Reportedly, Hitachi and JCB Co. As expected, the companies are pushing their creation as a safer and more reliable method of paying for items, and while there's no telling how quickly customers are apt to implement said technology, Hitachi has reportedly stated that it would "launch an experiment in September involving 200 of its employees to see if it is commercially viable to introduce the system in shops, banks and other businesses."
