From Discover Technology: In a small forest clearing in Papua New Guinea, a male six-wired bird of paradise is getting ready for a show-stopping number. He rears up and spreads his wings so that they encircle his body like a ballerina's skirt. He begins to dance, bobbing from side to sid

Bird of Paradise Flower - The Onset of Spring
2007-09-22 08:12:00
Bird of Paradise Flower - Spring has come!Bird of Paradise FlowerSpring is now in full bloom here in Australia. The grass is growing, the trees are blossoming with flowers, and the cicadas chirp at night. The Mozzies are biting, the flies are invading our homes, and a large portion of every Saturday is spent mowing the lawn. Everything is on the move. And, of course, all this life and activity comes with a host of new photographic opportunities.Yesterday afternoon I went for a visit to one of the local parks. The flowers there are in full bloom and provide great opportunities for macro shots. In that 2-hour session alone I took nearly 200 photos! Thankfully the era of digital cameras has alleviated the need for film, otherwise that session would have cost quite a bit. This bird of paradise flower is one of the hugely diverse species of flora to be found in the park I visited yesterday. I took this photo just before sunset, when the sun's rays shining through the flower give it a bri...

My Gallery - Bird of Paradise Flower
2007-08-22 23:38:00
This was a good sunny day at my home. I saw the beautiful bird of paradise flower in my garden while I was walking around my home in the morning. Wow I was stunned. I should take some photos of my bird of paradise so I decided to test my Sigma 70-300 APO CG Macro so that I took the close up photos. Please feel free to comment (You can click each photo to see a bigger photo)FYI - The bird-of-paradise flower (Strelitzia reginae) also called crane flower ornamental plant of the family Strelitziaceae. There are five species of the genus Strelitzia, all native to southern Africa. They grow from rhizomes (underground stems) to a height of 1 to 1.5 metres (about 3 to 5 feet) and have stiff, erect, leathery, concave, and oblong leaves. The leaves are bluish green and may have a red midrib.Scientific classificationKingdom: PlantaeDivision: MagnoliophytaClass: LiliopsidaSubclass: ZingiberidaeOrder: ZingiberalesFamily: StrelitziaceaeGenus: StrelitziaInformation from http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...-
Tropical Flowers

Tropical flowers are the most beautiful flowers I ever have seen. I'm totally in love with these creatures and never can get enough of them to photograph. If I would have a bigger yard I would turn it into a tropical rain forest with all the plants, trees and flowers what are growing here.

Snowy White - Bird Of Paradise (1983)
2007-08-15 07:30:00
British-born blues/rock guitarist Snowy White first became interested in music at age 11, when he heard urban blues performers like B.B. King, Otis Rush, and Buddy Guy, and was inspired to create his own clean, hard-edged style of British blues. After moving to London in the early '70s, White spent the decade forging his sound and playing with like-minded artists such as Pink Floyd, Peter Green, and Thin Lizzy. In 1979 Thin Lizzy asked White to join them as a full-time band member; he did, touring and recording Chinatown and The Renegade with them.In pursuit of different musical directions, White left Thin Lizzy in 1982. Joined by drummer Richard Bailey, bassist Kuma Harada, and keyboardist Godfrey Wang, he recorded his solo debut White Flames. Its single "Bird of Paradise" became an international hit, reaching number three on the U.K. charts. Not content to be known as a singles artist, White rethought his approach to music. After deciding to focus on his guitar playing, he formed a...
