In an effort to placate disgruntled fans, NBC has made the un-aired episodes of its recently cancelled mob drama THE BLACK DONNELLYS available for download on iTunes. All eight episodes from season one are now available by clicking here. While on the subject of THE BLACK DONELLYS, how poorly named is its reality show replacement THANK GOD YOU’RE HERE? I have yet to meet anyone who’s ‘thanking God’ that an unfunny reality show has replaced yet another quality scripted drama. TV Show Review-"The Black Donnellys"
2007-03-08 21:48:01
While many may cry foul that NBC's timing of releasing "The Black Donnellys" to the television world had solely to do with the timing of Oscar-heralded "The Departed", which is very similar in its genre, I say to these naysayers--just watch and see.The show started off at first like a very cheap imitation of "Goodfellas", but as the first two episodes have unraveled, we not only get the family closeness that is evidenced in "The Sopranos", we also get a rawness that is only matched on television to "24".Greek tragedies once thrived off of the concept of catharsis, which basically means that a person who watches all of the terrible things that happen onstage gradually feels so much better about their own life after all is said and done. "The Black Donnellys" not only brings this concept back to its core element, but it continues to writh and bring that pit in your stomach to new levels of panic, wondering about how bad this can actually get for the four brothers. It would be trivial ...
The Black Donnellys Shoot For Number One
2007-02-27 19:57:00
Last night, NBC premiered its newest series, The Black Donnellys. The drama, scripted by Paul Haggis and Robert Moresco (both of Crash fame, among other places), centers around the four brothers in the Donnelly family: Tommy, Jimmy, Kevin, and Sean. As with most sets of brothers (or siblings in general) the Donnelly boys don’t always see eye-to-eye on everything. Raised in a strictly working class neighborhood, the boys grew up committing small crimes (stealing ice cream bins and the like) and eventually graduated to higher orders of legal problems. Tommy (Jonathan Tucker) is at the center of the show, and is the Donnelly boy that’s trying to go straight. Some of Tommy’s brothers however, most notably Jimmy (Tom Guiry), are not interested in such a life. Jimmy has drug problems and has no compunction about committing various crimes (including stealing a truck full of Hawaiian shirts). Kevin (Billy Lush) is the gambler of the family. Kevin will tag along with Jimmy on the crim...
NBC pulls Studio 60 a week earlier for Black Donnellys
2007-02-14 09:20:02
NBC is pushing up the premiere date for "The Black Donnellys" — and pulling "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip" off the air a week earlier than planned. "Donnellys," which was set to bow March 5, will now sign on Monday, Feb. 26, at 10 p.m. Move gives "Donnellys" an extra week on the air with a firstrun "Heroes" lead-in. "Heroes" is set to go into repeats after its March 5 episode. Premiere date change was announced Tuesday afternoon, hours after Nielsen confirmed that "Studio 60" — the current occupant of the post-"Heroes" timeslot — dropped to its lowest ratings yet. NBC hasn’t yet said when it plans to bring back "Studio 60" for its final run of season one segs. Decision to yank "Studio 60" a week early will no doubt raise a new round of questions about the show’s long-term fate. Insiders said the net still hasn’t decided what to do with ...
