Black Flag: Defining American Hardcore Punks
2008-08-31 16:48:00 Black Flag was, for all intents and purposes, America’s first hardcore band. They emerged from Southern California to gain international prominence, touring enough to become a major attraction in virtually every city where a scene existed and undoubtedly inspiring others to get in the game. Via the band’s still-thriving SST label, Black Flag played an ...
BLACK FLAG-1984
2008-08-23 11:30:00 I've never posted on Black Flag, and frankly, after about five years of blogging, I should be ashamed of myself. They weren't the fathers of punk or hardcore, but they were one of the best bands of the genre. This show was played at Kent State, site of famous oppression and violence, so it's the perfect place for Rollins to scream out the words to "Police Story:"This fucking city is run by pigs! They take the rights away from all the kids! . . . They hate us, we hate them, we can't win, no way!"Without further ado, Black Flag from October 13, 1984. 2008-03-20 13:43:00 I've had the tables turned on me in interviews before, but nothing as uncomfortable as what Black Flag put this poor kid through back in the days when public-access programming was hardcore's MTV... Black Flag-Complete 1982 Demos download
2008-03-15 23:08:00 First off, I got this from Mike Parsons, who posted it on the Best of Times messageboard (a Birmingham hardcore board that I still read ocassionally). I am doing nothing more than sharing it with the people who read this blog, and am not taking credit for compiling, ripping, or even finding this gem. I have a vinyl copy of this called 1983 Demo's (misplaced apostrophe in tact) that was bootlegged in the UK by a label called Hardcore Archives. "In 1982, legally restricted from releasing new records, Black Flag secretly recorded a demo, mainly consisting of songs that would later be used on their albums My War and Slip It In. Tracks 1-10 were taken from these sessions, although some sources indicate that these 10 selections are not in fact the complete 1982 demos. On July 11, 1984,[1] shortly after Kira Roessler joined the band, Black Flag recorded a few tracks live at Radio Tokyo studio in Los Angeles, including a short interview. Tracks 11-14 are taken from these sessions. Some sour...

BLACK FLAG - DAMAGED

NASCAR Gets The Black Flag
2007-11-26 03:31:00 Of all the different flags that fly during a NASCAR race, the black flag is probably used the least. It is waved for a specific car when it is either grossly in violation of the rules or it has become a hazard to the other cars. A driver receiving the black flag must immediately pull off the track.Today, I am finally waving my personal black flag at the entire sport of NASCAR, which has been my favorite sport for the last seven years. NASCAR, and in particular track-owner Bruton Smith, are in gross violation of God's rules of economic justice, and they have become a hazard to the well-being of society.I will no longer tape the NASCAR race to watch when I get home from church on Sunday evenings. I will no longer cheer on the orange and white #31 AT&T Chevrolet driven by Jeff Burton. I will no longer maintain "The Jimmy Cup," the blog that featured the NASCAR scoring system that I invented. This long-overdue decision was prompted by the news that broke in Charlotte over the Thanks...
Black Flag of Islamic Jihad on the Streets of NYC (Muslim Day Parade)
2007-09-10 22:46:00 Muslim Day Parade Update: Thanks to the intrepid Urban Infidel there are now some photographs available of the NYC Muslim Day Parade that transpired on September 9, 2007. One photograph in particular jumped out at me. In it a Muslim man is holding, and feel free to correct me if I’m wrong, an iconic black flag of Islamic jihad. Even more ironic about the photograph is that an American flag is in the same photograph and furled up almost in submission while the Muslim man waves the black flag proudly and higher than Old Glory. That’s a big traditional no-no for any of you new (or even not so new) Americans that might be unaware of how to present the Stars & Stripes properly. Here is the shot: Many more photos from the Muslim Day Parade may be found at Urban Infidel’s blog. And more at Atlas Shrugs, complete with some heated confrontations caught on video. UPDATE: Bigsibling points out, probably correctly, that the red, white and blue flag in the above ph...

Black flag singer raises no red flags on gay nups
2007-07-21 00:00:00 And now, Henry Rollins on gay marriage: "That I surprised a few people, or anyone about how I feel about gay folks, is unfortunate," he says. "To me, not having a problem with homosexuality is elementary. Homosexuality is a fact...

Daily Digs: Black Flag, Les Savy Fav, Roni Size & More?
2007-07-17 00:40:00 Fans of rock should find this ‘Daily Digs’ more than satisfying with choice selections from the Foo Fighters, MC5, Swervedriver, and Turbonegro. Additionally of note, those interested in the “riot grrrl” movement of the early 90s, the Bikini Kill discography captures the abrasive hardcore-influenced punk sound of these radical feminist pioneers in all their glory ...

2007-01-12 11:11:01 An eclectic mix of ‘Daily Digs’, with artists ranging from punk pioneers Black Flag and the Descendents to singer-songwriters Damien Rice and Elliott Smith. Of particular note, ‘Crazy Horse’ is the first solo album by Neil Young’s backing band, augmented by guitarists Ry Cooder and Nils Lofgren. It contains the original and definitive version of [...]
Daily Digs: Black Flag, Lee ?Scratch? Perry, Soundgarden & M
2006-09-23 14:27:02 The first recommendation from the ‘Daily Digs’ is a name that most readers will not be familiar with; King Geedorah is an oddly moving side project of MF Doom and ‘Take Me to Your Leader’ is a fascinating audio collage, with RZA-style soul-jazz samples, tight beats supplied by the Metal Fingered Villain, and cuts taken [...] |
