Blacksite: Area 51 Review
2008-01-12 18:10:00 I finished the campaign for Blacksite: Area 51 last week and spent a little time with the multiplayer. I had fun playing the campaign. It was not the best first person shooter I've played by any means, but it was fun. The environments were mostly destructible which leads to some fun tactics like shooting at walls that enemies are hiding behind until they are destroyed and the enemies has to run for new cover. The campaign is not very long and the plot is kind of cheesy, but the developers got the amount of enemies perfect. There were not so many coming at me that I could not keep up and died a lot, but there were enough that I never got bored or let me guard down while running around. Plus, they give you plenty of ammo for the appropriate weapon for the types of enemies in the area. Towards the end of the game there was plenty of ammo for the plasma rifle which is a blast to use. You can control when the plasma explodes so you can shoot it just past the corner of a building...

2007-11-17 09:18:00 One thing we can say about BlackSite: Area 51 is that it's easy to pick up. Control-wise, there's nothing to set the game apart from any of the popular FPS titles that it is competing with this holiday season. Left stick for movement, right stick for aiming, L trigger to look down your weapon's sights, R trigger to fire and so forth. You do have at least one or two people in your "squad" for the bulk of the game and you can order them to move to specific locations, attack specific targets and perform context-sensitive actions which are apparently beyond the skills of the main character. Such as opening doors.And truth be told, Blacksite deserves to lurk in the shadow of giants like Bio Shock as it doesn't quite reach the lofty bar that's been set for the FPS genre. 2007-06-16 18:48:00 Box art isn’t a bad thing when it comes to news; it gives you a little bit of insight into the game’s cool factors. If the box art is lame, then you know the game can’t be cool. If the box art is fancy, then you at least know the game can’t be much worse. So now you get to judge, does Blacksite look like it could be a good game, simply based on the box art? Well, an obvious answer might make CB Games look biased. And we wouldn’t want that, would we? So I’ll leave the judging up to you. All I’m going to say is that alongside the box art, are some brand new screenshots as well. Some of these screens don’t look half bad, especially the giant crater monster who thinks it’s a wise idea to attack the bridge. I guess it has a death wish; those army carriers on the bridge will have troops piling out to give that stupid, big thing a bath of bullets.
