So with the launch of An Agnostic in Wheaton and Midwestern Muslim to join Being Catholic…Really it was... Read more »

Read All Your Favorite Blogs in One Place
2012-01-20 01:04:00
If you feel like it’s a chore to keep up with all your favorite blogs, you can now read posts from all the blogs you follow (even the ones that aren’t on WordPress.com!) in one convenient place on the WordPress.com home page: Your reader displays all the posts across all the blogs you follow in the order they were published, with the most recent content appearing at the top. You’ll see an excerpt of the introduction to each post, the first image in the post, and thumbnails of any other images that the post contains. You can even like and reblog WordPress.com content directly from the reader (we’re working on bringing reblogs back to the toolbar!) using the icons in the top right corner of each post: Whether you’re at the computer or using the WordPress app on an Android or iOS mobile device, having all the posts from the blogs you follow in one place makes it easy to find the updates that are important to you, and skip over the ones that aren’t....

Where Did the Blogs Go?
2012-01-11 15:00:00
It's a new year and we're not waiting for spring to do some cleaning on CR4. You may have noticed that there are fewer blogs on the Blog Roll. (There were 130 blogs in 2011.) The Admin team has been making some content and structural changes to CR4 during the month of January. Here's what's
Baseball Blogs Weigh In: Zambrano, Quentin, Garza
2012-01-06 16:48:00
On this date in 2006, the Diamondbacks came to terms with Justin Upton after making him the first overall pick in the 2005 draft. The signing deadline back then was the next year's draft, not mid-August. Upton received a $6.1MM bonus, the largest ever given out as part of a minor league contract for a drafted player at the time. He mashed his way to the big leagues less than two years later and already has two All-Star Game nods to his credit. Upton also finished fourth in the NL MVP voting this year after hitting .289/.369/.529 with 31 homers. Here are the first links of 2012... MLB Reports interviewed Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com. Rum Bunter interviewed Pirates second baseman Neil Walker. Baseball Time In Arlington looked at what went wrong with Daisuke Matsuzaka and what it means for Yu Darvish. The Cub Reporter will miss the always entertaining Carlos Zambrano. FishStripes says the Zambrano trade is about as even as possible. Bleacher Nation broke down the newest Cu...

GOVERNMENT ON TWITTER
2011-12-28 15:00:00
Advocacy group the Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC) has issued the United States Department of Homeland Security a lawsuit. The reason? They claim that the government is monitoring blogs, message boards, and social media platforms like Twitter without the public's consent. The scrutiny is said to go so far as to pinpoint specific flag words that, in turn, trigger the agency to track and monitor a user's online activity. Hmm, you don't say?

Mary Plumb's list of Winter Solstice 2011 blogs
2011-12-19 23:16:00
How fabulous when astrologer and writer Mary Plumb publishes a yearly round-up of Solstice Week blogs over at Mountain Astrologer Magazine!Along with the many amazing blogs on Mary's list, it makes me happy as a puppy with two tails that Stars Over Washington is included this year even though my Winter Solstice 2011 column is about as lousy and depressing as the politicians and other miscreants I attempt to describe while squinting through the excellent and venerable lens of Astrology.(My Jupiter/Saturn trine is really much jollier than that, I promise!)So when you have a chance, do check out Mary Plumb's list of astrologers blogging on Thursday's Winter Solstice 2011 if you dare for some of us take a mundane or political peek while other writers concentrate more on the esoteric or personal levels of existence.Macro or micro viewpoints are available--all published for you!And so is this detail from one of my favorite winter scene drawings: Blue Winter's Path--brrr-r-r-r...Wishin...

2011-12-17 00:17:00
On Tuesday, several left-of-center Facebook friends linked posts from a left-wing blog contending that Mitt Romney had adopted a Ku Klux Klan slogan to guide his presidential campaign.  Quickly as charges leveled against conservatives and Republicans on such blogs are wont to do, that allegation was soon repeated unexamined on such news outlets as The Washington ...
China Law Blogs Here To Stay.
2011-12-10 08:38:00
Surprised and honored by a post over at the Associate's Mind Blog (a terrific blog, BTW, written by a neophyte lawyer out of Birmingham Alabama). The Post is entitled Law Library of Congress Archiving Blawgs and it told me something I did not know: The Library of Congress maintains an archive of what it has apparently deemed to be the top legal blogs and that list includes CLB: I went in expecting to find only things like the Harvard International Law Journal (which I did), but I was also pleasantly surprised to find regular blogs, such as China Law Blog, Simple Justice, The Trademark Blog, and others included. There are even a couple Canadian blogs included as well. It’s a nice resource when/if some legal bloggers decided to hang up their hats. The full archive is here. In addition to our blog, Stan Abrams' China Hearsay also made the cut and so too will live forever. Near as I can tell from my quick review, the list of the 100 or blawgs that are being saved for arch...

If approved, the campaign may start accepting applicants as early as next April. Sign us up!
Facebook, Twitter Overshadow Blogs: But Can Blogs Be Replaced Altogether?
2011-11-17 10:54:00
Trends in the online world have a tendency to radically change over time. What was once thought to be a much needed form of expressing yourself online, has been replaced by an even more innate desire to connect with people but through liking something or tweeting about it. Indeed, blogging is now passé as Twitter and Facebook have taken over, suggesting a humongous shift in online communication. Blog searches around the world have halved, while Twitter & Facebook have grown tremendously.  According to statistics, the number of blogs on the internet rose 21% from 126 million in 2009 to 152 million in 2010. At the same time, the number of tweets went up by 160%. Facebook showed a 74% rise in users. In addition, Google insights, which tracks search terms, shows a 50% decline for blogs in 2010.  Blogging gained popularity in the early 2000s when people put forth their thoughts and other useful content on the web for everyone to read and share. A blog post is often long and takes...

Google Providing Users New Ways To “View” Blogger Blogs
2011-04-04 06:49:00
Google is on a mission to revive Blogger. After revealing the redesigned platform at SXSW, Google is now releasing previews of a new dynamic user interface which allows users to view blogposts in dramatically new ways. You can experience the new changes, which have been developed using AJAX, HTML5 and CSS3, by adding “/view” behind the URL of any blog hosted publicly using Blogger (for example: http://buzz.blogspot.com/view).- The change offers the following benefits according to Antin Harasymiv, an engineer working on Blogger: Infinite scrolling: read more posts without having to reload or click to a second page New layouts: different views suited to different types of blogs Speed: download images as you view them, not all at once in advance Interactivity: there are now more ways to experience and engage with blog contents Google is introducing the upgrade with five distinct ways to view blogpost — Flipcard, Mosaic, Snapshot, Sidebar and Timeline. Blogs: Teacher Caught Whining Re Whiny Kids
2011-02-17 23:32:00
What's the proper fate for a teacher who complains anonymously about her students online -- and gets caught?  Should she be chastized or even fired, or held up as a truth-teller?  Her name's Natalie Munroe and she described some of her kids as lazy whiners, among other things -- without naming names.  But the kids figured it out, she's been suspended, and her case has aroused both derision and praise. Maybe teachers should be banned from using social media altogether?  Or limited to happy talk?  You be the judge. Where does free speech and useful feedback end and where do code of conduct violations begin?  Via the CSM.  ...
Copyright infringement: Using images on blogs without permission
2011-02-15 05:12:00
Just because you search for an image on google and it pops up, doesn't mean you have the legal right to use it. If you use images found on the internet for your website or blog, you could be guilty of copyright infringement (even if you didn't mean to). Here are some tips to keep you out of hot water.
Blogs: It's just a person's opinion
2011-01-15 20:18:00
Blogs sometimes contain stories or messages that not everyone will agree with or they generalize groups of people. I hope that everyone realizes that they are an individual and not to always group themselves with the masses. There are ignorant and amazing people in every group of society. The only thing I can say is be different. Show the world that you are a cool person from the burbs, who doesn't snap their fingers at their server and who has very well behaved children. You are the one who gives me hope that not everyone has forgotten their manners.
Use Blogs to Promote Your Primary Business!

Weekend Musings: Vancouver Food Blogs Rock The World and List of Most Activ
2011-01-10 03:50:00
We all know for sure that Vancouver has a very lively and active food blog scene. A little while back I put up a blogroll of all the Vancouver Food Blogs on chowtimes (link here). To tell the truth I was completely and pleasantly surprised that we have so many food blogs dedicated to writing about restaurants and dining outs in our city. Do you know how many sites there are on the chowtimes? blogroll? 114! Isn't that awesome? Just last week, Fairchild TV aired a documentary on chowtimes. In the introduction, it highlighted a point I made about how active the food blogging site is. In the absence of a better stat, I pointed to Fairchild the Urbanspoon Leaderboard above. As you can see, Vancouver dominates 6 of the top 7 positions on the leaderboard for the number of posts published. The top Vancouver food blogs lead all the other blogs by a far margin. [Note: Victoria in the list refers to Victoria, Australia ? not BC] So that brings to our mind. Does Vancouver have the bigge...
