How to tell if someone is bluffing ?
2008-04-03 00:00:00
Advanced poker is much more about playing one?s opponents than the cards. The psychological aspect of the game gets front seat, and subtle things (like all sorts of poker tells) become much more important. These are the circumstances under which bluffing inevitably rears its head. Whether it?s a blind-stealing semi-bluff, ...
Bluffing in Sit-and-Go Tournaments
2008-04-01 14:26:00
If you don’t bluff successfully in Texas Holdem online sit-and-go tournament, you’ll be giving an edge to your opponents. Sit-and-go tourneys go by super-fast. You need to take every opportunity to grow your chip stack. If you play tight poker early on, you’ll need to employ deceptive plays in the latter stages of the tourney. Don’t Bluff in the Early Stages of a Sit-and-Go Much like the start of multitable poker tournaments, you need to approach the early stages of a sit-and-go with a very relaxed, conservative outlook. When the tourney is just starting off, there’s really no reason to make bold, deceptive moves. You shouldn’t even play marginal hands in the early rounds. Bluffing is certainly a required skill if you want to enjoy sit-and-go success, but you need to hold on to your bluffing and stealing urges until after the herd thins out a bit. Like any online tournament, sit-and-go tourneys feature plenty of horrible players. There’s no reason to get involved in b...
What if Chavez Isn?t Bluffing About War with Colombia?
2008-03-14 03:55:00
Hugo Chavez is making news again, this time threatening war with Colombia (a U.S. ally) over the assassination of terrorist elements that have taken refuge in Ecuador. The facts aren't quite known, but it is alleged the Colombia sent military forces into Ecuador to attack members of the FARC, a terrorist group that has been ...
arsenal v blackburn, hughes? double bluffing is laughable
2008-02-11 16:28:00
So Mark Hughes thinks Arsenal have "toughed up", huh? That's an interesting turn of phrase for a manager who's players are probably tired of hearing the words "kick", "head", "groin" and "ground" 5 minutes before they run out at each of their home games. Might it be that he is playing a game of double-bluff? Could it be that shorn of key players due to suspensions and injury, he will revert to what his team know best, the 'kicking' game? Publicly declaring that Arsenal can match Blackburn physically, and then privately telling his team to...

Patriots crushed Steelers - Bluffing can be fatal
2007-12-10 18:14:00
After all the exciting NFL games on Sunday, one of the most bitter NFL Scores was the way New England smashed the Pittsburgh Steelers 13-34.  Something definitely not expected since the Patriots had a 2-almost-lost-game streak. Everyone thought the Steelers would finally make it happen. Why didn?t they?.  Even though the Patriots have actually won every ...
The art of bluffing
2007-10-25 19:45:00
I'm writing this from Las Vegas, where I've been flying this week. America's recent obsession with poker provides a lot of lessons applicable to the stock market. Remember, you only get to see your own cards - at least, until the money's on the table. Seeing the other cards requires you to bet, and sometimes it costs more to play (higher stakes). That's the price of poker. As we're moving through earnings season, volatility has been high with really little net movement in prices. Some individual stocks are getting a beating with the ugly stick, but others are flying high. This volatility has actually resulted in the bullish percents to go "on defense" - indicating a recent concentration of point & figure sell signals.Remember, the offensive/defensive status of the market is not a timing device. Rather, this gives focus to our risk management - whether to operate in wealth accumulation or wealth preservation mode. In other words, do we "buy the dips" or "sell the hig...

Bomb Iran? Bluffing or Nuts?
2007-08-31 12:26:00
http://worldatlas.com/webimage/-countrys/asia/lgcolor/ircolor.h-tm Those who talk of bombing Iran (the nutty President of France to Cheney) had best take a close look at the map of Iran and surrounding countries (website above) — particularly the Strait of Hormuz which passes close to Iran and through which ships bringing out oil from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq, etc. and taking ...
Tips When Bluffing!!!
2007-07-22 01:42:00
Bluffing is an art and has to be perfected before it can fool opponents. The bluff should be high, it should be a call, a large bet and then continually do it throughout the playing of the hand. By the end of the hand with large raises, the opponents would have contributed a significant amount to the pot. So they probably would have folded because they can not afford such gambles. When you have a good hand. I encourage constant moderate raises, as good cards can be as easily spotted as a bluff. Poker is about playing the cards and playing the man.
Bluffing When You Are Sick In Bed
2007-07-01 03:46:00
We all look for alibis when we don?t feel like going to work or to a certain occasion such as family gatherings. However, it has been proven that these alibis may get people into more trouble. Assuming to be sick may be a good excuse but what if your girl or wife calls? Would you ...
Bluffing on the Flop in Sit and Go Tournaments
2007-04-29 09:26:00
A lot of players like to open limp in late position in a sit and go tournament, even when the blinds are relatively large compared to stacks (say 5-10bb or so). This is usually a donkey play, considering they could raise instead and possibly add 15-30% to their stack. Despite this, often you will find ...

Do I look like I'm bluffing?
2007-04-01 02:59:00
The best bluff I remember was by the Officer who trained me. On Hilton Head there is a big public parking lot at the entrance to the public beach. We had received many complaints of teenagers playing loud music and drinking at night in the parking lot. This evening we received a report of a large crowd disturbing the peace. Upon our arrival we found about fifty people in the parking lot. We got out of the patrol car and my partner announced that everyone would have to leave because we had received complaints about the noise. The group had been drinking and they crowded around our car. They asked what we were going to do if they didn't leave. My partner calmly told them that we would put them in jail. They all started laughing and one wise guy said, "You don't really think you two can take us all to jail do you?" My partner reached into our patrol car and pulled out the riot 12 gage shotgun. He chambered a round and laid it on the hood of the car. He calmly stated, "Of course not. ...
