Why? It’s reported that a competing documentary on Marley’s life, which will be directed by Martin Scorsese, is the source of the problem. Lauryn Hill is married to the son of Bob Marley and Janet Hunt, Rohan Marley, and has 5 children with him. Martin Scorsese is going to be pissed! The Weinstein Company has optioned the rights to "No Woman No Cry: My Life With Bob Marley" (pick up a copy on Amazon.com), a book written by Bob Marley's widow Rita Marley, with plans to turn it into a biopic about the legendary Jamaican reggae singer. Scorsese previously announced that he would be directing a documentary about Bob Marley that would be aiming for a February 2010 release. Now No Woman No Cry is going to hit theaters right before it, in late 2009. Apparently a biopic has had issues getting approved by Rita previously, but now this time this one has made it through and is heading into production. More Reggae?

Rita Marley to Produce First Bob Marley Biopic Bob Marley's widow is looking to executive produce a biopic of the late reggae singer with The Weinstein Co. handling production and distribution. The film will be based on Rita Marley's 2004 autobiography No Woman No Cry: My Life With Bob Marley. Rita is hoping that she will be played by her "daughter-in-law" Lauryn Hill. I added the quotes as Hill is actually married to Rohan Marley, the son of Bob by another woman named Janet Hunt, so technically Hill is not her daughter-in-law. Can Lauryn Hill act? I honestly don't know. Then again, Mrs. Marley also thinks her grandson Stefan would be perfect for the role of Bob, so she may just be talking. I had a good time because me and my neighbor Rick had some fun anyway but the show was a real let down. To begin with the place was empty when we arrived at 10PM and stayed that way pretty much all night long until about 1:30AM or so when I drug my butt home. There were never more than 20 or 30 people there it seemed and they never did play a whole Bob Marley song. As a matter of fact they played little to no Bob at all. Much of the music offered that evening was from a local DJ crew and had nothing to do with Bob Marley or any kind of reggae for that matter. There was lots of the standard Jamaican DJ drivvle but no Bob at all. Not even Bob spirit could be felt anywhere and it seemed like me and Rick where the only two there for Bob.
