CBS: Ratings Roadkill
2008-06-10 15:46:00
Bob Schieffer back in the CBS News anchor chair? "No. That is not anticipated." B&C CBS News prez Sean McManus. B&C: "You also recently weathered another spate of piranha-like media speculation about Katie Couric?s future. At what point does this type of coverage affect your brand?"McManus: "I think the negativity has died down dramatically over the past couple of months... And I watch what Katie does every night and I would put it up there against what anybody else is doing on network and cable television right now. And if we keep doing that, the brand will be just fine. Nobody likes to read negative press..."
CBS: If It Bleeds, It Leads
2008-05-19 14:48:00
"How puzzling must it have been for CBS when Bob Schieffer, a bona-fide old guy, with white hair and a gravelly voice, got ratings that were better than both Rather?s and Couric?s?Nancy Franklin in a New Yorker piece with an illustration that makes Katie Couric look like a predatory rodent. Not so puzzling considering liberal Rather turned off the old fart "CBS Evening News" La-Z-Boy viewers nodding off behind TV dinner tray tables. But wait! There's more! "She often comes across as hollow and robotic. I?m never as aware that anybody is reading from a teleprompter as I am when I?m watching Couric. She is essentially wasted in this job, as it has been defined by her and by Moonves, but the fact is that anyone with more of a reporting background would probably have been even unhappier in the job than Couric has evidently been, because CBS doesn?t appear to be all that interested in maintaining its news division; earlier this year, it was reported that the network was looking into usi...

Hillary Clinton Brags About How She?s the Candidate for ?White Americans? ?
2008-05-12 23:10:00
In an interview with USAToday, Hillary Clinton had a little slip of the tongue, when she essentially said that she’s the “white folks” candidate.  In fact, after recent highly racist comments were made, this picture even surfaced: OK, so obviously I’m joking.  What actually happend is Clinton misspoke, and the media has blown it somewhat out ...
John Edwards: ?The math is very, very hard? for Hillary Clinton
2008-05-11 23:49:00
This morning, John Edwards appeared on CBS’s Face the Nation with Bob Schieffer.  Here’s a transcript of the show: SCHIEFFER: And good morning again. Barack Obama now leads in the number of delegates. He’s overtaken Hillary Clinton in the number of superdelegates, and now he has the largest percentage of the popular vote. So when we ...
CBS News: They Shoot Horses, Don't They?
2008-04-24 16:43:00
It is time for CBS News to be put down, in the Old Yeller sense of the phrase. It's time to turn out the lights and just start airing Hollywood gossip at 6:30 p.m. The network could follow Schieffer's lead and simply dissolve the thing after the inauguration, maybe keeping 60 Minutes around, either as a commercial-free public service program (because what exec doesn't love a prestige-hogging loss leader?) or under the auspices of CBS' entertainment division (because why keep pretending?). The farewell would be handled with dignified pomp?tributes to Murrow and Severeid and so forth. And if Walter Cronkite is in good health, he could do the honors with a final sign off. I'm serious. That's how bad things are, and that's the way it is. Troy Patterson Slate "Dead Air. Why CBS Should Shutter Its News Division"Dorothy Maguire as Katie Coates "Old Yeller" 1957: "If that don't beat all. I never saw such a dog."
Chickaboomer Beats The Press
2008-03-20 23:10:00
THIS JUST IN! U.S. News and World Report "Washington Whispers" buzzes in the that CBS News "Face The Nation" face Bob Schieffer has changed his mind about retiring next January. TV Newser trumpets the news today. Ho-hum. Old news to Chickaboomer readers. Bob Rocks!
2008-02-18 14:15:00
CBS News veteran Bob Schieffer's Honky Tonk Confidential country western band copped a WAMMIE at last night's awards show in my old stomping ground - the State Theater in Falls Church, Virginia. Wash Post Schieffer entertained the DC crowd with "TV Anchorman" from the band's "Road Kill Stew" CD. Westwood One's Jim Bohannon hosted the music awards.

Why did NYC Emmis WQCD switch to rock after 20 years of Smooth Jazz? PPM. David Hinckley NYDN Three soon-to-be-beached DJs took station management up on the offer to tape a "swan song" to listeners which aired before the format switch. Looks good on the old resume, no? Fox News Geraldo Rivera has a new book out. He was supposed to pimp it on Nancy Grace's show. But CNN took back the invite. CNN denies the "blanket boycott" against booking Foxies even though Fox has interviewed Chicken News Network's Wolfie and Glenn Beck. Imus: Err Apparent Absolved
2008-02-03 21:58:00
"Imus has emerged, seemingly clean and in many ways whole, from a wash cycle administered with breathtaking velocity both inside the Beltway and out." Jacques Steinberg NYTVeteran CBS News guy and frequent Imus guest Bob Schieffer justifies Imus's redemption: ?It seems like in this age of instant communication, they fall faster and they rise faster. It used to be, before the Internet, it took a while for this stuff to get around. Now it goes around in a nanosecond. Maybe what we?re seeing is that it?s possible to come back just as quickly.?Like the mistress of an aging tycoon whose wife conveniently dies, Imus regulars were champing at the bit to reunite with their sugar daddy to pimp books, political spin, and their narcissistic selves. Newsweek regulars are still grounded and not allowed to come out and play. Corrupt, hypocritical, sleazy greasy opportunist Al Sharpton tells The Times: "We were not trying to destroy Imus."

The guy who garnered better ratings than Katie while keeping the CBS anchor chair warm for his successor is bagging his day job. Bob Schieffer is leaving "Face The Nation" next year. APCBS3 Chicago is covering live the funeral of anchorman Randy Salerno killed in a snowmobile crash last weekend. Over at WGN a 43-year-old Tee Vee anchorbabe has a valid excuse for slurred speech: strokes. Robert Feder Chicago Sun-TimesDown in Tampa a lady anchoress's slurred speech is still the talk of the TV universe. Bob Schieffer slams FEMA for phony news conference
2007-10-29 03:27:00
Not that I watch CBS, because you know we boycott them, but we'll still watch it online: and this clip of Bob Schieffer on CBS's Face the Nation, I like. He's addressing FEMA's phony news conference (which I still am enraged over).
CBS: Couric Bitch Slap
2007-07-09 02:03:00
The $15 million Dollar A Year Woman's true colors flying boldly at CBS News where New York mag is reporting Miz Katie whacked a staff guy. [Drudge Report] But you won't find it until page seven of the suck up piece Katie and her cronies planted in futile attempts to negate last week's National Enquirer's "Untold Story." If I were more cynical I'd finger CBS News as the culprit behind the Enquirer leak to grease the skids for Katie's departure. The phony Little Mary Sunshine has dropped the perky facade to reveal the wretched Couric: Cruella De Vil. Read it and weep here. If you want to know how CBS is going to play Katie's dumping, here's the executive summary in today's NewYork Daily News. "Viewers Weren't Ready." Other Katie spin: "Not what I thought it would be." Katie repeatedly slapped an editor because he wanted to use the word "sputum" in the TB Boy story. Katie DETESTS that word. Off with his effing head! Katie's revisionist spin: they were just "playing around....
