Called Boingo Global, it will have no roaming charges or per-minute fees, reports Computer World. “The days of per-minute charges and incremental roaming fees for Wi-Fi Internet access are over,” said Dave Hagan, president of Santa Monica, Calif.-based Boingo. Travelers can purchase Boingo Global online and download the Go Boingo utility software for Windows that identifies partner hot spots. Go Boingo also allows a user to log in with a single click using the Boingo account. 2006-12-08 16:11:01 At this pace, Skype would become the de facto calling application for voice over WiFi. After SMC and Fon, the company sets another WiFi triumvirate: Skype/Belkin/Boingo. Belkin will start offering unlimited access to Boingo hotspots to its customers equipped with its WiFi phone, a candybar designed like the SMC WiFi phone. The Boingo network is 60,000 access points wide, which mainly maps urban zones with high density of business population. Airports, retail locations, or resorts for example. To use the service, customers are required to buy the Belkin WiFi phone ($180) and subscribe the $8 per month calling plan. But it’s not that good though. SkypeIn and SkypeOut aren’t part of the plan.
