2008-02-09 09:51:00 Bond 22 Poster Wisely Omits Movie TitleThe first poster is out for the latest James Bond movie: Quantum of Solace (aka Bond 22, which I vastly prefer). You may have heard that the latest movie will pick up right where Casino Royale ended and the new poster verifies that. If you compare the poster below to the image on the left, which is from the very end of the previous film, you'll see they match. The first thing that jumped out at me when I saw this new poster (which I actually like) is that the clumsy title Quantum of Solace is nowhere to be seen. I think that's a good call at this point. I still think Quantum of Solace sound like a title for a cheesy sci-fi B-movie... Maybe after we've heard it for months and months it will start to sink in and get easier to remember, but right now sticking with the familiar 007 logo works for me. While there is not yet a whole lot to see there, they do have a nice detailed story description to pass the time. The name was announced at a press conference today in England and is taken from a name of a collection of short stories published by Bond creator Ian Fleming in 1960. It's taking me a little while to warm up to it, but I'm start to really like it. It's really bringing me back to the classic days of Bond, which is what this needs for Daniel Craig's version to still live on. I've been nagging to ask this question: can "they" really pull off filming a James Bond film from start to finish and complete all post-production and visual effects in less than 10 months time? I know some movies can (the Saw franchise, to name one), but Transformers took two to three entire years to complete. The Bond site MI6 reports that Bond 22 will begin filming on January 3rd, 2008. One reported scene that will be shot this week is in London at the Barbican, although Daniel Craig isn't in it. MI6 also ran some interesting quotes from director Marc Forster about the film and its direction. Apparently composers David Arnold and Don Black were rather impressed with the band's song "Wings of a Butterfly," and according to a source "They think [H.I.M. frontman Ville Valo] has just the right ear to write a classic Bond hit with them." So if this pans out, the Bond music would probably sound harsh and heavy, which could maybe be cool, but perhaps a bit too much. We already brought you news that the script for Bond 22 has been turned in by original scripters Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, but now comes word that, just like last time, Paul Haggis is being brought on board to inject his own voice and do some re-working. The LA Times speculates that with all of the projects he has going on, including editing In the Valley of Elah, Haggis might have asked for a hefty raise to do this again, but I personally can't imagine that it's really a chore -- who wouldn't want to take a more or less finished Bond script and add their own changes to it? Looks Like ?Bond 22? Will Indeed Be Direct Sequel to Casino Royale

Thandie Newton! Kathy Bates!), you know all news on this series isn't set in stone until the film rolls. Just last week, we had our first Bond girl rumor for Bond 22, which isn't set for release until November 7, 2008! But we do now have confirmation on one aspect of the next Bond that should please fans of Daniel Craig's last outing as the superspy (i.e. pretty much everyone). Previous reports were correct: Bond 22 will be a direct continuation of the events started in Casino Royale. Since most Bond films have been stand-alone adventures, this should be another good way to shake (not stir) the formula.
