Shopbop calls them the "perfect antidote to fashion fatigue" but they seem like the designer was fatigued when designing these and wasn't sure what they wanted to design. Every designer from Prada to Primark has been making booties this season, but I think these black and silver suede ones by Dolce & Gabbana are a particularly good example of that "curved top" trend. The shape of these is striking enough to need no further embellishment, but Messrs D&G have emphasised those curves even further with that silver lining which helps draw attention to the shape of the boot. There's more silver on the heel, which is two-toned with a triangular cut out, adding another level of interest. A beautiful boot, but at $538.95 and in oh-so-delicate suede, not one to keep for a rainy day!

In my experience, this rarely trumps the original and that pretty much sums up my feelings on Stuart Weitzman's Patent Cutout Booties. He appears to have taken the classic brogue/oxford boot and given it a bit of sass and originality by firstly making it patent and then making odd cutouts. I'm afraid it really falls down in the style stakes for me. Mixing genres like this basically Victorian inspired shoe with modern twists is a tricky business. I think Stuart should go back to the drawing board.

I thought - whoa, when did Nordstrom start using manequins for shoe photos? (Yes, I can recognize manequins from product photos and likely identify which retailers own them... case in point: Anthropologie vs. Bluefly. You know you can, too!) But that isn't the case with this shoe. It only loooks like its a silver pump with a very high back and a cutout showing the fishet stockings underneath. In reality, it's a bootie by Enzo Angiolini called the 'Prize' which features a pewter outline and 'diamond quilted' centre, and costs US$148.95. How the heck do you wear it?
