Why can't I see the borders around my labels in Word 2003?
2008-06-04 06:06:00 Jane writes to us that her boss gave her the task to create address labels for file folders around the office. She has used the feature in Word 2003 before and went to Tools... Envelopes and Labels...She chose her label type and hit new document expecting to see a page of blank labels. Instead she saw a blank page! Something was not right here and she could not figure out what it was or how to fix it!Over at AtA headquarters we have seen this before and I was able to fix Janey up dumb quick. Here is what we had to do:Open a page of labels like we showed you above.Click Table on the menu bar (Or Alt-A)Click Show Gridlines. And that's it the borders have returned and you can go back to entering your data! This feature does the same thing for ANY tables within word.Do you have any Word tips, tricks or helpful how-to's? Now I have been doing this on the internet for many years now. Barnes & Noble Looking to Acquire Borders
2008-05-24 14:54:00 Borders has offered itself up for sale and Barnes & Noble Inc confirmed reports that it is looking to acquire the troubled company. Borders has been redesigning, closing stores, and creating its own online e-commerce site as opposed to relying on Amazon in hopes to increase its earnings. However, despite these measures, Borders had to put itself on the auction block earlier this year. Barnes & Nobles is looking at acquiring the company; however, it may be waiting until an actual Borders bankruptcy occurs in order to strike a better deal.
Open Borders is Bad For Workers
2008-05-21 09:22:00 Commenter James Schipper of Canada points out what any economics student or especially Marxist ought to be able to figure out: that open borders is terrible for workers in high-wage countries. That the Left in high-wage countries supports such an obviously detrimental to workers agenda means that it completely misunderstands the economics of modern capitalism.Nowadays, the Western Left can only be said to be worker-hostile towards native workers. They support immigrant workers, and it is a known fact that immigrant workers in many cases in the West have been shown to actually lower wages for native workers. The Left responds that this is a lie.Even worse, the Left calls any Western Leftist who opposes certain modes of immigration racist. At best, this is a grotesque abuse of the term similar to the way many objectively reactionary groups are overusing this word these days. At worst, it is slander and name-calling.The Left's objective hostility to native workers in the West has resu...

Use Laptop Rentals to Secure Data at U.S. and U.K. Borders
2008-05-20 14:44:00 Utilizing laptop rentals when traveling in-country or overseas is becoming evermore advisable, as government agencies tasked with guarding our collective security are increasingly prying into areas - your computer's files and the information on them - which used to be confidential.Writing on the implications of a recent U.S. Federal Court of Appeals decision which allows U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agents to search, seize and/or copy the hard drive of any computer being brought through the international arrivals checkpoint at a U.S. airport, Bruce Schneier (in an article in May 15th's Guardian newspaper) recommends going all "high-tech" to secure the confidential data and files on the business traveler's laptop. Mr. Schneier, rightly so, recognizes that the normal level of encryption you may (or may not) use to secure confidential or proprietary information may not suffice when crossing an international border."Encrypting your entire hard drive, something you should certainl...

Is throwing open the borders with Mexico and Canada the solution to the Gre
2008-04-29 11:25:00 AmerimexanadaMexamericanadaCana-merimexicaOh dear.Seriously though, if the US threw open their borders and did an "EU-thing" with Mexico and Canada, that would add 108 million Mexicans (a good chunk of which are already in the US illegally) and 33 million Canadians. First step would be an open-immigration economic zone, next step would be a common currency, and then a hundred years from now, one big country. And why stop with Mexico and Canada - watch for a massive increase in visas for workers from around the world. The United States is $53 trillion in debt, we have 20 million vacant homes ready to move into, we have 78 million Baby Boomers retiring soon, and soon we'll only have two workers supporting every one retiree (down from 3.3 today and 15 to 1 at the start of the Social Security ponzi scheme). In other words, at this rate we'll need people. Lots and lots of taxpaying, baby-producing legally-registered people. And if we decide we want the Big Ponzi Scheme to continue, we ne...

Price Gap Between Borders, Amazon Causes Split
2008-04-23 22:30:00 I ask the employee - whom I recognize as having worked there for quite a long time - why the prices vary so greatly from Amazon.com, with whom Borders has been affiliated in an online partnership since April of 2001, almost seven years to the day. In fact, Borders Group announced over a year ago that they were severing ties with Amazon--though the split has not been executed on the web--and its been reported that Borders plans to launch it's own site independent of Amazon as soon as this month.

Another Syrian armored division masses on Israeli-Lebanese borders
2008-04-14 15:57:00 DEBKAfile’s military sources report that Damascus has deployed the 10th armed corps at the Massaneh crossing of Mount Hermon. It links up with the northwestern positions the 14th division took up last month on the Syrian-Israeli border which cuts through the Hermon range. Syrian troops are now strung along a continuous crescent-shaped line from the central Lebanese mountains through Mt Dov on the western slopes of Mt. Hermon and up to southeastern Lebanon. This deployment, commanding Syria’s Israeli and Lebanese borders, is under the command of the president’s brother, Maher Assad. Read More…

Israeli and Egyptian forces on high alert on Gaza borders over Hamas threat
2008-04-13 16:29:00 Hamas politburo chief Khaled Meshaal voiced this threat Saturday, April 12. DEBKAfile’s military sources report that the raid by Palestinian gunmen on the Israeli-Gaza fuel terminal - and murder of two of its employees, Oleg Lipson and Lev Cerniak - were meant to set the stage for a mass Hamas assault on the Gaza-Israeli border. Earlier this year, Hamas organized a “popular demonstration” of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians who smashed their way through the Egyptian border to Sinai. After forcing Israel to close the fuel terminal, the Gaza population’s main source of fuel by its attack last Wednesday, Hamas plans to stage a mass protest against purported fuel shortages which is designed to end up flattening the border fence with Israel. Making Scrapbooking Borders: How to Add Interest to Your Page Elements
2008-04-13 10:50:00 You may have heard that making scrapbooking borders is adds interest to your scrapbook page layouts. You may want borders around your photos, the page itself, your journaling, and so on. How can you go about making scrapbooking borders that fit your theme and tone of the page, but that won’t clash with other elements, and that won’t make your page look too busy? These are important questions because you can easily overdo it when you add borders to any page and ruin an otherwise great scrapbook page. There are a few simple things to remember when making scrapbooking borders. Probably the most important thing to remember is that you definitely don’t want to go overboard. Too many borders can make your page look cluttered and busy. A good rule of thumb is that there should only be one border element on your page. Choose a border for your page, photo, or journaling, but not everything. Some people think when making border...

The Craft in Borders and Blocks
2008-04-08 17:32:00 Once you choose your patterns, templates, blocks, etc, you will need to get ready your fabric. You will need to consider how to organize your blocks, once you gather the necessary amount needed to complete your project. You want to consider your borders as well. You will need graph paper, since you will need to sketch in order to determine how many blocks you will need to complete your quilt. To get started you will also need to decide the size of quilt you want to create and then you can consider settings. To set your blocks, or organize the blocks you can consider borders, sashing, and cornerstones. The diagonal settings are another style you can consider, as well as the straight set. Sashing works in the same way as the straight sets, i.e. you merely block your settings against the other and in an organized line. After you will run horizontal and vertical lines, which makes up your 9-patch scheme. The blocks in this instance are interacting with the stitches in three lines and ...
