Venison with Gin, Fruits and Apple-Celeriac Mash
2007-12-31 13:15:00
On Thursday evening I was a little bored. I’d spent the day avoiding correcting my thesis and starting, but somehow not finishing, several posts for this blog. For the first time in weeks, I decided to surf around the other blogs and, as usual, my first port of call was Trig Brook’s site. After a few minutes ...
Mutton Neck and Pearl Barley Stew

Our new flat has some good points and some bad points. There are a few teething problems. We still need to have our washing machine repaired and the central heating is broken, but the only real annoyance is the journey to work. When I decided to take the flat, I looked at a map and thought the ...
Food to Match the Weather

Many of you who are resident in the Midlands and the South of England will recall a Friday not long ago when it rained very, very heavily all day. With such weather (which happened to catch me umbrella-less as I was wandering around Borough) it wasn’t too suprising that I was encouraged to buy and cook some proper cold weather ...

A few months ago, my Dad brought me a few bargains from Borders. Among them was a £3 book on Mexican Cookery. Whilst I’m always up for trying new cuisines, I thought that this particular one was a bit out of my reach. The book described a lot of ingredients I’d never heard of before. ...

A Gastro Tour of Borough Market
2007-06-20 20:15:00
Last Friday afternoon I took the tube from work to London Bridge to take a ?Gastro Tour? of London?s famous Borough Market. The tour had been arranged by Walid from Trusted Places and was led by Celia Brooks Brown, who runs these tours on a regular basis. Walid had kindly invited me along with several other food bloggers and a few food journalists from the Guardian and Waitrose Illustrated. I?d never met another food blogger before and it was wonderful to meet like minded people, as passionate about food as I am, who I?d talked to via email and through comments on our blogs but never met.The tour itself started with a history of the market and then we were led around it, meeting various stall holders and tasting fabulous wares as we went. We got to try wheat grass ? one small shot of which contains the same amount of vitamins as a week?s worth of fruit and veg, the amazing parmesan cheese from The Parmesan Cheese Company ? the owners of which had made it their lifetime?s work to fin...

We enjoyed a wonderful outing today at Borough Market with fellow blogger Ros and Andrew (aka Goon) and then we met Mike and Trig at the pub and had a great time. The market was incredible and I’ve never seen anything like it. It’s huge, with such a wide array of products. We later tried ...
