2008-03-13 00:33:00 Not only are we flying back to Korea, we're staying awhile to catch the sights and check out some more HEAT!Clazziquai Project - ZBAM [2004]Link 2This album is the first Clazziquai remix album for the group's debut album "Instant Pig."Clazziquai Project - Color Your Soul [2005]Link 2Clazziquai Project returned in October 2005 with a groovy new album, Color Your Soul. Featuring fourteen new tunes and one bonus track, the disc had all the jazzy appeal of Instant Pig, made better by the wise arrangement of tracks - to produce a full, rich landscape of smooth sound. In Color Your Soul, the group took 'diverse' to a whole new level of meaning - from jazz with an R&B tilt to old-school dance pop, DJ Clazzi took fans everywhere on a journey through a fantasy world of rhythm and groove. If you're sleeping on this HEAT then there's no sense in trying to save you because you've already flat-lined...Clazziquai Project - Pinch Your Soul [2006]The "Pinch Your Soul" album is the second...

2008-03-08 20:02:00 Jessy J - Tequila Moon [2008]Link 2Jessy J (born Jessica Spinella) offers tastes of pop, jazz, Latin, and even Brazilian music on Tequila Moon. This record opens with Jessy in full-on seduction mode, inviting the listener to enjoy a balmy, slightly breezy evening complete with her low toned tenor melody, laid back percussion. She keeps the smoky and soulful tenor vibe going over the cool grooves of the midtempo ballad "Spanish Nights," on to a dreamy, romantic atmosphere on "Sin Ti/Without You." Jessy plays flute on "Fiesta Valda" and even drops vocals on Jorge Bem's "Mas Que Nada." How someone so gorgeous can put out a record this hot is beyond common sense; all that matters is that she brings that HEAT and she certainly did not disappoint with this debut album. All track info is in the comment section...

2008-03-08 20:00:00 Clazziquai Project - Instant Pig (Korean version) [2004]Link 2We're gonna divert our focus to some Korean HEAT for a minute. Here we have the debut album by Clazziquai Project, with Alex and Horan on vocals and DJ Clazzi on production. Their music can be described as a mix of house, electronica, jazz, and bossa nova with an amazingly refreshing vocal that blends magically. This is definitely top-shelf music; hopefully you will feel the same. And can someone explain what's the deal with the pig?All track info is in the comment section...

It's probably because Adriana's music is layered and so richly textured; an absolute tour de force. In fact, if you close your eyes while listening to songs like "Before You," you can actually see yourself sitting on a warm beach in Brazil watching the blue waves of the ocean while enjoying an ice cold lemonade. 2008-03-06 00:55:00 VA - A History Of Schema - Tokyo Dream [2007]Link 2Today Family Affair distributes labels like Compost, Soul Jazz and F-Communications in Italy, it also distributes Ishtar Productions worldwide. Luciano's jazz influence gave birth to the creation of Schema Records and the start of two great artistic relationship with Nicola Conte, producer and influence to the Schema sound, and Gerardo Frisina, virtually a living music encyclopedia. This extensive knowledge brought about the creation of Rearward Records at a later date; a label concerned with jazz music between the 60's and 70's, which includes re-stamped editions of artists like Sahib Shihab, Kenny Clarke, Francy Boland and Giorgio Azzolini. This dedication to old roots gave the desire to Ishtar to buy the entire master and publishing catalog of Campi-Cawoo. The creation of good music requires knowledge of music itself, our life though, has changed extensively and the way to create and produce music also. Davide has grown with ...

2008-03-04 01:45:00 Pink Martini - Sympathique [1999]Link 2This, their debut CD, was recorded in 1996-1997 in Portland. I can only offer the highest praise for this CD. Anyone, of any age, should find at least several things to love here. This is a stunning CD. It is a cohesive blend of Cuban, French, Greek, Japanese, Italian, Spanish, classical, and Brazilian music. It is a hit in Europe; one of the cuts was included on one of the trendy Parisian Hotel Costes' CDs. The music is hard to classify- Jazz? Latin? House? Retro? Whatever you want to call it, it is marvelous, sophisticated, quirky, cosmopolitan, and international. And believe it or not, the group Pink Martini comes out of Portland Oregon. The group includes 14 talented musicians, covering vocals, trumpet, trombone, violin, cello, bass, guitar, piano, and percussion. Two cuts are augmented with the addition of a string orchestra and children's choir.Pink Martini - Hang On Little Tomato [2004]Link 2Hang On Little Tomato, Pink Martini?s much-an...

Couple Coffee and Band - E Agora, A Bossa-Nova

2008-02-19 17:02:00 Jiva - Day into Night [2007]Link 2Jiva's a group consisting of Chanda McKnight, Paige Lackey Martin, Rhonda Thomas, Alex Lattimore and spearheaded by Khari Simmons. They're much in the mold of a lot of the nu-soul sounds out of Atlanta and maybe the US in general with the likes of Fertile Ground, The Rebirth and a few other acts that've risen over the past 7 years. Khari Simmon's in particular has been busy - within the last 14-17 months or so, he's done work with Jiva along with various other projects with Julie Dexter and his own remix work.It starts out nicely with "Mantra 2", which this time is a full song with Khari's trademark fender rhodes and keys dominant. Nice touch with the electric guitar in there. I didn't care for a small key effect in the intro, but once the song's moving, it's nice... albeit with a slightly cheesy bossa bridge. Sol e Lua is nice - a great, up-beat sort of song. There's nothign quite like live instrumentation, and the drums give the song a r...

Quincy Jones - Big Band Bossa Nova
2008-01-15 21:28:00 Even when he was a full-time jazz cat, Quincy Jones always had an ear for the pop aesthetic. This 1962 record does contain a good bit of, how you say, queijo in its unsubtle arrangements, but it is for the most part an accessible, entertaining, and bubbly affair. And with musicians of the caliber of Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Paul Gonsalves, Clark Terry, Jim Hall (who can't help but be tasteful), and Phil Woods all contributing ideas, a baseline quality is assured. Most significantly, Jones goes beyond the expected Jobim and Bonfa cuts to fit Lerner & Loewe and even Mingus into bossa nova's bright clothes. It's so reminiscent of the cocktail party music for those old movies from the late 50's and 60's.Bossa Nova was king then, and this is a fabulous feel good nostalgia recording. This CD makes me want to throw a cocktail party! This treatment of bossa nova fits in perfectly with the musical culture of those days gone by. It's a time travel trip to the suburban set and penthouse ...

2007-10-18 16:03:00 REPOST LAURINDO ALMEIDA & BOSSANOVA ALLSTARS VIVA! BOSSANOVA CAPITOL 1962Hi ppl! This is a salut from a sunny south Sweden this Thursday of the 18th. They have opened a brand new swimming hall in Höör were i live. Been there twice today. I feel GREAT! Visit Bjorkvik Auqarena HERE. Well...This is a repost of my alltime favourite album of the king. (second best is Guitar from Ipanema) I posted the "other" VIVA (Olé bossa nova) a while ago. These albums belong together like sister and brother. They launched Laurindo Almeida in the US. They also made bossa nova the BUG it became. Before these albums Laurindo was a pure studio knight with guestplays on most of the records containing the words "bossa nova". On these (VIVA and OLÉ) he launched the Laurindosound for the big public together with his mates in The bossanova allstars. They both went high in the charts once and for all making Laurindo Almeida the true father of bossa. Please feel free to enjoy HERE.

2007-10-09 03:43:00 This cover and post title is self-explanatory and I think nobody will ready these lines. It is not necessary to clean your glasses or schedule a visit to your doctor, what you see is exactly what you get, and I will be very straightforward to do not waste your time. This is A Noite do Amor, do Sorriso e da Flor - Faculdade de Arquitetura (1960), the anthological event produced by Ronaldo Boscoli, considered the first Bossa Nova Festival, featuring renowned Brazilian artists on a very early stage of their career supported by Roberto Menescal (guitar), Luiz Carlos Vinhas (piano), Luiz Paulo (bass), Helcio Milito (drums) and Bebeto (sax). The track list has some failures and I hope our community helps to realize the exact figures in terms of songs names and performers. The sound quality is not perfect, but if you take in from an historical perspective, every second of this event worth the hearing. I would like to thanks all the friends involved on this post, a very important accomplishme...

Os Romanticos - Bossa Nova
2007-10-04 03:42:00 I think we are entering on a phase where everybody is excited to know not credited artists behind Bossa Nova albums. Caetano Rodrigues comes to bring another contribution to our community. Caetano comes with a challenge, delivering an album that I could not gather any info about. Let's see. This is Os Romanticos - Bossa Nova (no date), for unknown label. I'm not sure if Caetano Rodrigues knows the Brazilian label that issues Os Romanticos, otherwise, this should be the first album released at Loronix with a non-identified label. Anyway, the mystery is not finished; we don't know who is Os Romanticos, musicians and release date. The album features soft instrumental Bossa Nova renditions performed with percussion, bass, guitar, accordion and violin. Caetano urges Loronixers to get more information about Os Romanticos - Bossa Nova. This is Laurindos first major success as a soloartist (headline) and this and the VIVA! album went high in the charts in USA in 1962. That event maybe set the premier for Mr Joao Gilberto and the other gang of Brazilian jazz artists. But remember who was the father people; Laurindo de Almeida. Well this is pure gold. Enjoy HERE. MOVIE & TV BOSSA NOVA´S
2007-08-30 13:37:00 VARIOUS ARTISTS THE EXCITING BOSSA NOVA RHYTHMS FILM BOSSA LABEL RARE GROOVEThis is a post ive been wanting to lay out for ages but ive been stopped by my own stupid pride to keep this blog all Laurindo. But im not doing something completely wrong cause it contains 2 tracks of the king. This album is ultra-rare and only contains moviesoundtrack bossanovas. Its filled with classic smooth jazz from all kind of composers. My favourite tracks are "I like the look" by Mr Mancini from the movie Peter Gunn (Gunn number one) released 1967 by Paramount, based on the cult TV-series from late 50s to 1961. (Please note me if wrong) The album then contains my 2 favourite tracks by the king, "Naked city", which is a cultseries about the detectives in the 65th police presinct in NY. (More info) And then "Route 66" from the TV-series from 1960-1964. Osmar Milani e Sua Orquestra - Bossa Nova das Americas (1963)
2007-08-29 02:10:00 Caetano sent to our community this fantastic record on a style that I become an admirer with Loronix, the orchestra albums recorded by the "Maestros". There are several ones; my favorites are Luiz Arruda Paes and Lyrio Panicalli. Osmar Milani is being released for the first time with this album, hopefully the first out of the 5 ones recorded by Osmar Milani as main performer. Bossa Nova das Americas is a real treat for those who appreciate the rich Brazilian orchestra production. Let's see. This is Osmar Milani e Sua Orquestra - Bossa Nova das Americas (1963), for Fermata. Osmar Milani is an active orchestra leader since the late 40's. I googled for Maestro Osmar Milani and the latest information reports the maestro in plenty activity in the year 2000 with the age of 80. 2007-08-20 16:10:00 Walter Wanderley - MoondreamsLabel - A&M/CTI (Japan) Released - 1969Style - Jazz, Bossa Nova, Brazil, Funk, Lee Library(From Dusty Groove):Walter Wanderley opens up wonderfully on both organ and electric harpsichord here -- going for a very different sound than on his earlier records, and with plenty of great late 60s CTI touches! The music is as heavenly as you might guess from the title -- a dreamy recasting of Brazilian bossa modes with some of the sunnier 60s touches of the A&M scene -- all wrapped together with impeccable arrangements both from Deodato and Wanderley himself. The record mixes a bit of strings with a sweet chorus of flutes and just a bit of trumpet -- all undercut by some snapping rhythms that include a bit of percussion from Airto, plus occasional chorus vocals sung by Flora Purim and Stella Stevens! The mix of players, modes and sounds here is really wonderful -- and makes for a unique album that propels the older 60s bossa sound firmly towards the more sophis...

2007-08-20 16:01:00 Antonio Carlos Jobim - WaveLabel - A&M/CTI (Japan)Released - 1967Style - Bossa Nova, Jazz, Brazil, Lee Library(From here):Notes: Known more for his "Ipanema" and "Samba" tunes Jobim has a way of bringing the Brazilian night into a jazz framework and making both partners happy about the situation. Relaxing, soft music with the underlying rhythm and sway of the breeze or the water upon the sand. The "Boss of the Bossa Nova" with his large backing ensemble makes beautiful music here for all to enjoy. I'm not sure how the giraffe photo fits into the picture, but I first found the green cover and a little later came across the red one. A good record in either shade.Tracklist:1. "Wave" ? 2:582. "The Red Blouse" ? 5:063. "Look to the Sky" ? 2:204. "Batidinha" ? 3:155. "Triste" ? 2:046. "Mojave" ? 2:237. "Dialogo" ? 2:528. "Lamento" ? 2:449. "Antigua" ? 3:1010. Antonio Carlos Jobim - Tide
2007-08-20 15:59:00 Antonio Carlos Jobim - TideLabel - A&M/CTI (Japan)Released - 1970Style - Jazz, Bossa Nova, Latin, Brazil, Lee Library(from Dusty Groove):An incredible record -- from the first off-key note to the last! The album's filled with some wonderfully moody LA studio sounds, arranged by Deodato, and a has a great swirling mix of sound that weaves around Jobim's lofty guitar and piano. From the first note, you can feel the strange magic of Jobim and Deodato at work -- as the album appears to be smooth and mellow, yet has a strangely unsettling undertone that keeps us coming back after all these years! Tracks include "Tema Jazz", "Carinhoso", "Rockanalia", and a nice remake of "Girl From Ipanema". Plus, the CD features 4 bonus alternate versions, including an 8 minute take of "Tema Jazz"!Tracklist:1. The Girl From Ipanema2. Carinhoso3. Tema Jazz4. Sue Ann5. Remember6. Tide7. Takatanga8. Antonio Carlos Jobim - Stone Flower
2007-08-20 15:56:00 Antonio Carlos Jobim - Stone FlowerLabel - A&M/CTI (Japan)Released - 1970 Style - Jazz, Bossa Nova, Latin, Brazil, Lee Library(from Dusty Groove):One of Antonio Carlos Jobim's greatest records -- and a perfect blend of his subtle bossa genius with the moody electric sound of CTI! Jobim plays electric and acoustic piano, guitar, and sings a bit -- and Deodato handled the arrangements with a breezy brilliance that matches all the magic of Jobim's wonderful compositions, but gives them a slightly more fluid feel too -- in a way that's somewhat more sophisticated than the sound of Jobim's previous CTI outings -- Tide and Wave. Other players on the album include Joe Farrell on soprano sax, Hubert Laws on flute, and Airto on percussion -- and there's a great mix of Brazilian and American styles on the set -- electric, sinister, breezy, and always wonderful! Includes the titles "Sabia", "God & The Devil In The Land Of The Sun", "Children's Games", "Stone Flower", "Brazil", "Tereza My...

The Barigozzi Group were one of these obscure little combos that churned out tight funky tracks for bigger outfits -- very much in the style of I Gres, Marc 4, or some of the other great Italian groups that are being discovered lately. Their strength was a great keyboard sound, augmented by some wonderfully produced guitars, nicely flanged or wah-wahed, and some excellent drums, played in a nice tight stiffly rhythmic style. FLAC files will be made available only once in a while as a plus, MP3s files are the standard and will be every time available.
