O Quarteto - Antologia da Bossa Nova | 20 Anos Depois (1977)
2009-07-16 04:38:00
Do you like vocal groups? I do. It is nice to hear and understand arrangements made for voices and this group excels on this kind of thing. O Quarteto recorded only three albums, two are available here at Loronix, while the third, released in 1969, is totally unknown to my ears. This is a reposting with several improvements, including the FLAC files and high quality front and back cover scans. I will keep my original writing with a few and cosmetic adaptations. Thanks once again for the successful funding raising campaign we made in just three days. Stay tuned for new features.Hello, good evening! I feel great today. I think it was a snack that made me feel bad yesterday, nothing better than 12 hours of continuous sleeping to get yourself fixed. Since I feel good, let's have a great start today with a record that I like a lot, taking advantage of the last records picturing Bossa Nova 10, 29, 30 years after. Let's see what we have here. This is O Quarteto - Antologia da Bossa Nova 20...

Varios Artistas - "Velha" Bossa Nova (1978)
2009-04-25 04:02:00
Hello, good evening! In the year of 1978, RCA released a tribute album in honor of Bossa Nova 20th year's anniversary, "Velha" Bossa Nova, featuring musicians from RCA cast or from the record labels later acquired or merged by or with RCA. This is the short intro of one of the best compilations I have heard in decades. Believe me? Let's see. This is "Velha" Bossa Nova (1978), for RCA Candem, from now, the album to use as the perfect introduction for those who want to know Bossa Nova on a single spin. I made some scans with relevant information about each track, including performer and year of recording. This album should guarantee a solid listing across this weekend. Tracks include:PERFORMERSAIRTO MOREIRA | ALAIDE COSTA | ANTONIO ADOLFO | CESAR CAMARGO MARIANO | DOM UM ROMAO | EUMIR DEODATO | FLORA PURIM | HERMETO PASCOAL | JOHNNY ALF | LENY ANDRADE | PAULO MOURA | LUCIO ALVES | MAYSA | OS CARIOCAS | RAUL DE SOUZA | WALTER WANDERLEY | ROSINHA DE VALENCA | WALTER SANTOS | PAPUDINHO ...

Milton Banana - O Ritmo e o Som da Bossa Nova (1963)
2009-03-29 07:14:00
Hello, good evening! I had a day with some surprises, good and bad surprises. Evaluating these ups and downs, I think the balance was not very good, and the best thing to do on these days is to sleep early and wake up on a better shape. However, I'm very happy with the sequel of albums made available at Loronix. Take a look at the last five or eight posts and you should agree with me. We had excellent albums and most of them never had a chance of being reissued on CD.I believe I made the right choice postponing my sleep time for a few hours. I'm feeling much better right now, especially remembering this album, which is one of the first made available at Loronix and a very important Brazilian instrumental music album featuring Milton Banana, the creator of Bossa Nova drumming style, backed by another legend of the movement, Oscar Castro Neves and Conjunto. This is a required update that you cannot miss. Let's see. This is Milton Banana e Conjunto de Oscar Castro Neves - O Ritmo e O...

Couple Coffee and Band - E Agora, A Bossa-Nova
2008-02-26 12:03:00
Quincy Jones - Big Band Bossa Nova
2008-01-15 21:28:00
Even when he was a full-time jazz cat, Quincy Jones always had an ear for the pop aesthetic. This 1962 record does contain a good bit of, how you say, queijo in its unsubtle arrangements, but it is for the most part an accessible, entertaining, and bubbly affair. And with musicians of the caliber of Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Paul Gonsalves, Clark Terry, Jim Hall (who can't help but be tasteful), and Phil Woods all contributing ideas, a baseline quality is assured. Most significantly, Jones goes beyond the expected Jobim and Bonfa cuts to fit Lerner & Loewe and even Mingus into bossa nova's bright clothes. It's so reminiscent of the cocktail party music for those old movies from the late 50's and 60's.Bossa Nova was king then, and this is a fabulous feel good nostalgia recording. This CD makes me want to throw a cocktail party! This treatment of bossa nova fits in perfectly with the musical culture of those days gone by. It's a time travel trip to the suburban set and penthouse ...

A Noite do Amor, do Sorriso e da Flor - 1o Festival de Bossa Nova | Faculda
2007-10-09 03:43:00
This cover and post title is self-explanatory and I think nobody will ready these lines. It is not necessary to clean your glasses or schedule a visit to your doctor, what you see is exactly what you get, and I will be very straightforward to do not waste your time. This is A Noite do Amor, do Sorriso e da Flor - Faculdade de Arquitetura (1960), the anthological event produced by Ronaldo Boscoli, considered the first Bossa Nova Festival, featuring renowned Brazilian artists on a very early stage of their career supported by Roberto Menescal (guitar), Luiz Carlos Vinhas (piano), Luiz Paulo (bass), Helcio Milito (drums) and Bebeto (sax). The track list has some failures and I hope our community helps to realize the exact figures in terms of songs names and performers. The sound quality is not perfect, but if you take in from an historical perspective, every second of this event worth the hearing. I would like to thanks all the friends involved on this post, a very important accomplishme...

Os Romanticos - Bossa Nova
2007-10-04 03:42:00
I think we are entering on a phase where everybody is excited to know not credited artists behind Bossa Nova albums. Caetano Rodrigues comes to bring another contribution to our community. Caetano comes with a challenge, delivering an album that I could not gather any info about. Let's see. This is Os Romanticos - Bossa Nova (no date), for unknown label. I'm not sure if Caetano Rodrigues knows the Brazilian label that issues Os Romanticos, otherwise, this should be the first album released at Loronix with a non-identified label. Anyway, the mystery is not finished; we don't know who is Os Romanticos, musicians and release date. The album features soft instrumental Bossa Nova renditions performed with percussion, bass, guitar, accordion and violin. Caetano urges Loronixers to get more information about Os Romanticos - Bossa Nova. Tracks include:01 - Lindos Olhos Azuis02 - Preciso dar um Jeito03 - Chega de Sofrer04 - Depois do Carnaval05 - Historia06 - Corcovado07 - O Amor em Paz08 ...

2007-08-31 02:39:00
Hello, Good Evening! Caetano Rodrigues uses to drives me crazy when he decides to share with our community some pretty obscure Bossa Nova albums recorded outside Brazil. This one is an example, Bossa Nova recorded in Mexico by Mexican musicians. Anyway, the music speaks by itself. Thanks a million Caetano. This is Los Graduados - Romance en Bossa Nova (no date), for Caleidofon, Mexico. Little I know about Los Graduados, the group is lead by a well-known Mexican sax player, Joaquin Pessina. The other members are not credited on back cover. By the way, this wonderful front cover does not let you turn to see the back cover, beautiful photo with beautiful typefaces. Osmar Milani e Sua Orquestra - Bossa Nova das Americas (1963)
2007-08-29 02:10:00
Caetano sent to our community this fantastic record on a style that I become an admirer with Loronix, the orchestra albums recorded by the "Maestros". There are several ones; my favorites are Luiz Arruda Paes and Lyrio Panicalli. Osmar Milani is being released for the first time with this album, hopefully the first out of the 5 ones recorded by Osmar Milani as main performer. Bossa Nova das Americas is a real treat for those who appreciate the rich Brazilian orchestra production. Let's see. This is Osmar Milani e Sua Orquestra - Bossa Nova das Americas (1963), for Fermata. Osmar Milani is an active orchestra leader since the late 40's. I googled for Maestro Osmar Milani and the latest information reports the maestro in plenty activity in the year 2000 with the age of 80. Among several accomplishments, Osmar Milani is well known from Brazilian friends for being the official Maestro of Silvio Santos show for 30 years, replaced by Maestro Zezinho, active until today. Ramsey Lewis Trio - Bossa Nova (1962)
2007-08-28 01:58:00
Hello, Good Evening! Let's start with a very successful formula, which is Bossa Nova recorded outside of Brazil by an international artist. Actually, I cannot understand why I did not release this one earlier, it is among my favorites in the style. Let's what happens? This is Ramsey Lewis Trio - Bossa Nova (1962), for Argo, also featuring the Brazilian singer Carmen Costa and Josef(?) Paulo, which is probably the Brazilian singer Jose Paulo that were with Carmen Costa and the constellation of Bossa Nova legends at Carnegie Hall first Bossa Nova US concert in 1963. Ramsey Lewis Trio is Ramsey Lewis (piano), Eldee Young (bass) and Redd Holt (drums), delivering a nice job, really above the averege of the very beginning US Bossa Nova albums. Tracks include:01 - Samba de Orfeu02 - Manha de Carnaval03 - As Criancinhas04 - A Noite do Meu Bem05 - O Pato06 - A Felicidade07 - Whirpoll08 - Cara de Palhaco09 - Cancao para GeraldaThis is Ramsey Lewis Trio - Bossa Nova (1962), at Loronix, here.H...

Label: Talkin' Loud Style: Brazil, Bossa Nova, Jazz, Lee LibraryCredits: Compiled By - Gilles Peterson , Joe Davis (From Dusty Groove):"One of the greatest compilations of Brazilian music you could ever hope to buy -- a brilliant selection of classic tunes, put together by DJs Gilles Peterson & Joe Davis as an introduction to the rich sounds of Brazil! The scope is amazing -- a real blend of numbers that represent the best that Brazil has to offer, and which goes past the usual bossa-heavy type of compilation you'd find in the US. Here, the grooves know no boundaries -- and run from jazzy, to baroque, to funky, breezy, folksy, and beyond. Many of the tracks on the set have still not been reissued in any other form, and even though the compilation's nearly a decade old, it's still one of the first we'd recommend to anyone wanting a great set of Brazilian music!"Tracklisting:1 Srgio Mendes & Brasil '77 - After Sunrise (3:08) 2 Tamba Trio - Barumba (2:49...

Walter Wanderley - Moondreams
2007-08-20 16:10:00
Walter Wanderley - MoondreamsLabel - A&M/CTI (Japan) Released - 1969Style - Jazz, Bossa Nova, Brazil, Funk, Lee Library(From Dusty Groove):Walter Wanderley opens up wonderfully on both organ and electric harpsichord here -- going for a very different sound than on his earlier records, and with plenty of great late 60s CTI touches! The music is as heavenly as you might guess from the title -- a dreamy recasting of Brazilian bossa modes with some of the sunnier 60s touches of the A&M scene -- all wrapped together with impeccable arrangements both from Deodato and Wanderley himself. The record mixes a bit of strings with a sweet chorus of flutes and just a bit of trumpet -- all undercut by some snapping rhythms that include a bit of percussion from Airto, plus occasional chorus vocals sung by Flora Purim and Stella Stevens! The mix of players, modes and sounds here is really wonderful -- and makes for a unique album that propels the older 60s bossa sound firmly towards the more sophis...

Antonio Carlos Jobim - WaveLabel - A&M/CTI (Japan)Released - 1967Style - Bossa Nova, Jazz, Brazil, Lee Library(From here):Notes: Known more for his "Ipanema" and "Samba" tunes Jobim has a way of bringing the Brazilian night into a jazz framework and making both partners happy about the situation. Relaxing, soft music with the underlying rhythm and sway of the breeze or the water upon the sand. The "Boss of the Bossa Nova" with his large backing ensemble makes beautiful music here for all to enjoy. I'm not sure how the giraffe photo fits into the picture, but I first found the green cover and a little later came across the red one. A good record in either shade.Tracklist:1. "Wave" ? 2:582. Antonio Carlos Jobim - TideLabel - A&M/CTI (Japan)Released - 1970Style - Jazz, Bossa Nova, Latin, Brazil, Lee Library(from Dusty Groove):An incredible record -- from the first off-key note to the last! The album's filled with some wonderfully moody LA studio sounds, arranged by Deodato, and a has a great swirling mix of sound that weaves around Jobim's lofty guitar and piano. From the first note, you can feel the strange magic of Jobim and Deodato at work -- as the album appears to be smooth and mellow, yet has a strangely unsettling undertone that keeps us coming back after all these years! Tracks include "Tema Jazz", "Carinhoso", "Rockanalia", and a nice remake of "Girl From Ipanema". Plus, the CD features 4 bonus alternate versions, including an 8 minute take of "Tema Jazz"!Tracklist:1. The Girl From Ipanema2. Carinhoso3. Tema Jazz4. Sue Ann5. Remember6. Tide7. Takatanga8. Antonio Carlos Jobim - Stone FlowerLabel - A&M/CTI (Japan)Released - 1970 Style - Jazz, Bossa Nova, Latin, Brazil, Lee Library(from Dusty Groove):One of Antonio Carlos Jobim's greatest records -- and a perfect blend of his subtle bossa genius with the moody electric sound of CTI! Jobim plays electric and acoustic piano, guitar, and sings a bit -- and Deodato handled the arrangements with a breezy brilliance that matches all the magic of Jobim's wonderful compositions, but gives them a slightly more fluid feel too -- in a way that's somewhat more sophisticated than the sound of Jobim's previous CTI outings -- Tide and Wave. Other players on the album include Joe Farrell on soprano sax, Hubert Laws on flute, and Airto on percussion -- and there's a great mix of Brazilian and American styles on the set -- electric, sinister, breezy, and always wonderful! I hope this statement will make people more relaxed...Let's start today with a Bossa Nova album recorded in Argentina by Argentinean musicians, sent by Enrique Dufal and by Caetano Rodrigues on his last package. This is Los Bossambistas - Los Bossambistas y La Bossa Nova (no date), for Columbia. Little is known about this album and the help from Argentinean friends will be necessary to add more information to this post. Los Bossambistas is a quintet with bass, guitar, drums, sax and trumpet and it it probably lead by a well-known Argentinean musician, Miki Lerman. Tracks include:PersonnelMiki Lerman(bass, percussion)Enrique Costa(guitar)Victor Pronzato(sax, clarinet)Ruben Barbieri(trumpet)Jorge Padin(drums, p...

Instrumental Bossa Nova (1989)
2007-07-12 04:15:00
Here we go on another Caetano Rodrigues contribution, actually, highly recommended by Caetano and the kind of album that should be released more often. We do not have a band here, either a main performer, perhaps I'm wrong, but this is just top-notch Brazilian musicians assembled to record instrumental renditions of Bossa Nova tunes. Let's check why this album is Caetano's favorite pick. This is Instrumental Bossa Nova (1989), for Visom. The fun of this album is to hear performances of classic Bossa Nova tunes by new generation musicians using new recording technologies. Personnel is available bellow, as well tracks. As Musicas de Henry Mancini em Bossa Nova
2007-07-05 01:45:00
Hello, Good Evening! When I saw this album in the middle of others contributions given by the great Caetano Rodrigues, I thought it was a compilation of previous releases by Henry Mancini with some Bossa Nova style. I was wrong. As Musicas de Henry Mancini em Bossa Nova brings brand new material, twelve instrumental renditions of Henry Mancini essential tunes performed as Bossa Nova. This is As Musicas de Henry Mancini em Bossa Nova (no date), for CID, part of a series of instrumental albums, each one an homage to a given artist, so far, I could track equivalents for Ary Barroso and Dorival Caymmi, there are probably others. Guess who is behind this initiative? Durval Ferreira, credited as artistic and musical director. Personnel is not credit and the music is performed by a quartet with keyboards, bass, guitar and drums. Tracks include:01 - Champagne and Quail02 - Charade03 - Days of Wine and Roses04 - Royal Blue05 - Megeve06 - Moon River07 - Sally's Tomato08 - Breakfast at Tiffany...

Sao Paulo Bossa Nova | Brazil 1
2007-06-02 08:45:00
Sao Paulo represents 17% of Loronixers in Brazil and deserves this position. I have been in Sao Paulo several times in my life for Business, being the last two times to visit Caetano and hunt for records. It was enough to change several things in my mind about the city and people. People in Sao Paulo have a different attitude when together over a community such like Loronix, they value and put effort to be in touch with each other on a open and friendly environment. I have been learning a lot by Loronix affairs with Sao Paulo and I want to say THANKS to everybody who lives in this great city.So Paulo is to Brazil what New York is to the United States - a cosmopolitan city, bristling with business activity and people from all over the world - both executives on the road and immigrants who settled there for good. And it shows in the music. A melting pot of civilizations, you will find a bit of everything in Sao Paulo. If you move to the interior, you will be immersed in country music...

Rio de Janeiro - Capital da Bossa Nova | Brazil 2
2007-06-02 07:00:00
No words, just feelings, Rio de Janeiro delivered a strong participation on Brazilian cities share of visitors at Loronix last year. It is the city that I live and as more as I try, I'm always talking, talking and talking about Rio de Janeiro. Actually, it is the city where Bossa Nova was born and the place that everybody interested on culture should go in the golden age of the music from Brazil.Rio is a hotbed of musical creation, the homeland of styles such as choro, lundu, jongo, maxixe, samba (in all its many varieties, from the music of the samba schools to bossa nova and beyond), and many others. Rio is the birthplace of Chiquinha Gonzaga, Ernesto Nazareth, Jacob do Bandolim, Tom Jobim, Edu Lobo, Oscar Castro Neves, Baden Powell, Luiz Bonf, Luiz Ea, Villa-Lobos (the greatest Brazilian classical composer) and too many to list here. Therefore, it is impossible to summarize this entire musical explosion in two paragraphs. It can be wild, like in samba schools, or cool and sophi...

Bossa Nova nas Gerais | Brazil 3
2007-06-02 03:23:00
I will not hide my sympathy for the great State of Minas Gerais, my second State in Brazil. When I was a kid, I use to spend three months in Minas Gerais every year on a city located on south called Sao Lourenco. Minas Gerais is all about nature, bike ridings at the mountains and also birds. I have some of my birds there, they had to go away for living a better life and bring peace to my neighbors, they were about to expel me a couple of years ago.Minas Gerais is a very special place; it was there that gold was first found in Brazil, spawning a rich culture during the Baroque period -- with the churches, status and classical music all around. It was there that many Portuguese noblemen came to live and make money, bringing along the tradition of European instruments and styles -- especially the music of bards and serenaders. But Minas Gerais put a spin on it, as they do with everything is easy to sense and feel the style: never aggressive, very melodic, subtle, full of surprising harm...

Bossa Nova Meets USA - Compilation by Caetano Rodrigues
2007-06-01 07:17:00
The United States have the second position at Loronix visitors ranking, which is not a surprise, the US have the largest music market in the world and country affairs with Bossa Nova started since the beginning, being both influenced by each other. More country info at this post closing, let's talk about the music.Blogger has been down in the last hour and I could not brief with Caetano, but I want to say that what is being delivered here for the US do not have any parallel within the industry. Our International tribute makes me understand that Caetano is also mastery on building compilations. I though compilations were just a matter of setting up a bunch of tracks together on any given order. I was wrong. Compilations are all about making fine selections and align them on a manner that you make a kind of curve with ups and downs using different situations to delivery a solid listening experience as a whole. This is Bossa Nova Meets USA - Compilation by Caetano Rodrigues. Uwe Buschkotter and His Party Players - If I Were a Rich Bossa Nova Man (19
2007-06-01 03:56:00
Several surprises are scheduled for Germany, country number three on Music from All Countries at Loronix. I never could imagine Germany delivering worldwide third place in terms of participation, but this is something that I want to detail on country closing information. Let's start with Caetano's selected pick for Germany, an album included on his Bossa Nova book that I'm having the chance to know for the first time with our tribute. This is Uwe Buschkotter and His Party Players - If I Were a Rich Bossa Nova Man (1967), Decca Germany. This is a really unusual album, starting with this psycho cover artwork. Little is known about Uwe Buschkotter that delivers with His Partyplayers a blending of Bossa Nova with what is used to be referenced as "latin music" with a diverse repertoire mixing Brazilian music, The Beatles, among other ones that I could not identify. Tracks include:01 - If I Were a Rich Man02 - Soul Man03 - Bambarina04 - Lady Madonna05 - Summer Samba06 - The Fool on the ...

Klaus Doldinger Quartett - Bossa Nova (1962) EP | Germany
2007-06-01 03:46:00
It was really nice of bossanovadreamer to send this album timely, as soon as our celebration was announced. bossanovadreamer lives in Germany and made this nice pick with another Loronixer from Germany, Mr. H.This is Klaus Doldinger Quartett - Bossa Nova (1962), for Philips (EP). Klaus Doldinger is a very active musician in Germany; he is the composer of the main melody of one of German's most famous crime series ever. Tatort, a cult series on Sunday evenings in German's first program, being also the leader of the jazzfusion group Passport, active since the 70's. Klaus Doldinger is very influenced by the music from Brazil; his last album was titled Klaus Doldinger - Back to Brazil (2003). Thanks a million bossanovadreamer and Mr. H. for this fantastic piece of music. Tracks include:PersonnelKlaus Doldinger(sax tenor)Ingfried Hoffman(organ)Helmut Kandlberger(bass)Klaus Weiss(drums)Track List01 - Recado Bossa Nova (Djalma Ferreira / Antonio DeCosta)02 - Copacabana (Joao De Barro/ A...

Niki Ayoube - Bossa Nova Jazz Samba (1962) | Canada
2007-05-30 01:40:00
It was really a treat listening this album and also a little bit confusing. The main performer is Nick Ayoub, but at a first sight, it seems we have a record made by a duo, Rosita and Deno. The story is delicious and is all about a promotion, everyone who bought this album could take the back cover to one of Rosita and Deno dancing schools and claim 2 free Bossa Nova lessons. Fascinating. Buy the album, hear the music and get 2 free dancing classes with Rosita & Deno. This is Nick Ayoub - Bossa Nova Jazz Samba (1962), for Trans Canada Music Company, a wonderful instrumental album featuring Niki Ayoube and his orchestra. Personnel is not credited but we have top-notch musicians at this set. The repertoire is also unusual with music that seems to be composed only for this album. I never danced in my life and if I were in Canada by that time, the story of my life could be different with Nick Ayoube and Rosita & Deno, only Caetano to bring such wonderful discoveries to Loronix. Eduardo Lobo - Eduardo Lobo em Bossa Nova (1963)
2007-05-25 03:48:00
Mr. E. has confirmed that Luiz Roberto from Velha Guarda da Bossa Nova and Luiz Roberto from Os Cariocas are the same person. Great acquisition to Loronix. Flavio Samello should come more often to Rio de Janeiro, I got luck during his short stay. We are in the mood of the first recording of renowned artists and I feel in the obligation to show this first single. This is Eduardo Lobo - Eduardo Lobo em Bossa Nova (1963), for Copacabana, the rare and sought after Edu Lobo first single with four non-LP tracks. Pretty self-explanatory release awaited by many Loronix friends. Tracks include:01 - Alguem sob Medida02 - Saudade so pra Mim03 - Balancinho04 - Amor de IlusaoThis is Eduardo Lobo - Eduardo Lobo em Bossa Nova (1963), at Loronix, here.Hope uEnjoy!

Luiz Roberto - Velha Guarda em Bossa Nova (1960)
2007-05-25 01:41:00
Hello, Good Evening! Some albums you buy only by the cover. Sometimes you get a little bit frustrated when you get home and see that you purchase a beautiful cover and bad music. This is not the case, Luiz Roberto is an obscure singer that I could not find any information about and he sings Samba on top of Bossa Nova in the background. I bought it today for a real bargain with my friend Flavio Samello, a cool Loronixer from Sao Paulo that came to Rio. Flavio has a website and made some photos with zeca available there, don't miss it, here and here. This is Luiz Roberto - Velha Guarda em Bossa Nova (1960), for Continental. As far as I could search, Luiz Roberto released only this LP and made some participation on TV Globo novel OSTs in the early 70's. I've been wondering today if Luiz Roberto from Os Cariocas and this Luiz Roberto are the same person. This is something that is up to you to research. Tracks include:01 - A Tua Vida Um Segredo (Lamartine Babo)02 - Vou Partir (Joo d...

Marley, the Roses and the Stones sound like bossa nova
2007-05-18 08:44:00
Imagine Bob Marley, Gun's n' Roses and The Rolling Stones, all of them on the same stage, with bossa/chill out colors added. Thats what can be heard in three very creative albums: Bossa n' Marley, Bossa n' Stones and Bossa n' Roses. Instead of getting loud with the Guns, you can flow and relax with their music. And thats the exact effect that the rest of the records have. Last night I had the
