A great Milestone Achieved by Boucher
2007-10-04 04:35:00 South African wicket-keeper Mark Boucher on Wednesday said he was honoured to break Ian Healy's record for dismissals behind the stumps with 396 victims. The 30-year-old stumped Pakistani batsman Umar Gul for 12 on the third day of the first Test against Pakistan at the National Stadium in Karachi to reach the milestone. Image: http://www.freewebs.com/shamik_-das/Pictures/Mark-Boucher.jpg "It's a great feeling to have broken the record, especially of someone who I used to watch on television as a schoolboy," Boucher said at the end of the day's play. Boucher, who made his Test debut against Pakistan at Sheikhupura in 1997, has 378 catches and 18 stumpings from 103 Tests. He is regarded as one of the world's best keepers and is also a dependable batsman. Healy, who retired in 1999, had 366 catches and 29 stumpings in 119 Tests.

2007-09-21 01:26:00 South Africa have been embarrassed in the final group match of the inaugural Twenty20 championships. Eric Simons might have an ironic smile on his face as this defeat brings back memories of the heartbreaking 2003 exit. After the 2003 debacle, Shaun Pollock resigned as captain and Pat Symcox stood down as a selector. In this instance ...

Boucher defends Pakistan as ally
2007-05-23 09:11:00 US Assistant Secretary of State Richard Boucher said on Monday that Pakistan has been increasingly active in repelling Taliban and Al Qaeda forces on the Afghan border. Trying to allay doubts about Pakistan?s credibility as the US Congress considers new aid funding requests, Boucher said Islamabad has taken a more aggressive approach since December that has gone largely unacknowledged.?They?ve had 80,000 troops in that (border) area who?ve been active and I would say, for the last six months they?ve been increasingly active in preventing infiltration across the border, disrupting and arresting Taliban and supporting tribal leaders who are trying to expel foreign militants,? Boucher said in an interview. A US official, elaborating on Boucher?s comments, said while the September 2006 peace agreement in North Waziristan led to a pullback of Pakistani troops and removal of some checkpoints, much of that has been reversed. This includes the redeployment of Pakistani troops from the India...

Pakistan moving forward as a moderate country: Boucher
2007-05-18 08:26:00 Pakistan is moving forward as a moderate country, US Assistant Secretary of State for South Asia Richard Boucher told Voice of America in an interview aired on Thursday. Boucher said that President Pervez Musharraf had set a ?good direction? for the country and the US supported him. He said the fight against terrorism was going ahead in the right direction. He condemned this week?s suicide bombing at a hotel in Peshawar, which claimed 25 lives. In excerpts of his interview, translated into Urdu and aired on Voice of America?s ?Beyond the Headlines? programme, Boucher noted that a lot had been achieved against extremism in Pakistan and Afghanistan this year. To a question about the stability of Pakistan?s government, Boucher said this was a year of political activities in Pakistan and obviously there were a lot of issues. Asked if Ambassador Neumann?s visit to Pakistan was aimed at expressing Washington?s support for Musharraf, Boucher said yes. He said the US support for Musharraf w...
