Happy non-official Holiday!
2008-02-03 18:41:00
As I wrestled through the aisles of my local Fortune 500 grocers, I was reminded how today is the most holiday-like of non-holidays. Usually Sunday-morning grocery shopping is a rather tranquil affair. Not today ? people with overflowing grocery carts and a few women looking a little too stressed about the day?s preparations. ...
AFC / NFC Championship Thoughts
2008-01-21 10:51:00
Just a random collection of thoughts from the conference championship games… 1. Who woulda thought little Eli Manning could make it to the SuperBowl in a shorter amount of time than his superstar brother Peyton? 2. Am I the only one who thought Favre was gonna break out a can of All American-Wrangler-Jeans-Hall-Of--Fame-4th-Quarter-Can-Of-Comeba-ck-Whoop-Ass on the Giants? ...
Giants Make It Three In A Row
2007-12-24 20:42:00
Adding to the mounting argument of parity versus mediocrity in the NFL, the New York Giants have managed to qualify for the post-season a third consecutive time. Buoyed by an opportunistic defense and spirited running attack the Giants fended off the feisty Buffalo Bills, 38-21.Despite another lackluster performance by Eli Manning the Jints punched their ...
From the Mailroom: Derrick Ward or Brandon Jacobs?
2007-10-04 23:13:00
Lots of mail this week...let's take a look at two letters that might help our readers most:Al writes...Due to byes and injuries, I have to start a Giants RB. Which one should I start, Jacobs or Ward?Well, Al, that's one of the tougher calls of the week. All reports out of New Jersey are that Jacobs is ready to go this week. However, it looks like there'll be a 50-50 split for now. So should you trust that BJ is OK? Or will Ward continue to rack up solid numbers? Surely, someone has to emerge, but this week it looks like a toss up. We say give Jacobs the nod. He'll get the goalline carries, so we say use that fact to break the tie between the two.Andy from St. Paul, MN asks: Which two WR? Smith, Colston, Chambers, Holmes, or Edwards?Even though, he puts up the occasional goose egg, you cannot bench Steve Smith. We also feel that Braylon Edwards has earned un-benchable status, as well. The Browns will play from behind this weekend, and Derek Anderson and Edwards should hook up for...
Brandon Jacobs: The future?
2007-06-22 14:41:00
Brandon Jacobs will be taking over the starting runningback for the New York Giants, for this reason many "experts" are predicting the Giants to finish third or fourth in their division this year. The departure of Tiki Barber will hurt the team because a player like Tiki is impossible to completely
Let New York Giants RB Brandon Jacobs Loose!!
2006-12-07 21:18:03
Arthur Staple covers the NY Giants for Newsday, and also runs the Paper's Giants Blog-here is his piece today-see my notes at the end!-DraftnikUse the big guy more and let him looseDecember 6, 2006 The lessons learned from the most recent Giants loss are pretty simple, the way we see it: 1. Don't take stupid penalties. 2. Put Brandon Jacobs on the field more. The first is obvious to everyone. The second may be as well, even though the coaching staff doesn't necessarily agree. But the Giants' two red-zone failures - worse than inside the 20, these were inside the 5 - illustrate how Tom Coughlin and offensive coordinator John Hufnagel got a little too cute with their play-calling. The first try was in the third quarter, with the Giants trailing 10-7. On first-and-goal from the 4, Eli Manning tries one of the Giants' signature passes, a fade to Plaxico Burress in single coverage, but Burress is well covered by Anthony Henry and the pass falls incomplete. Second-and-goal, Tiki Bar...
