Ex-Diplomat: Sex With Teens OK in Brazil, Congo
2008-07-11 12:55:00 ALEXANDRIA, Virginia — An ex-diplomat convicted of having sex with teenage girls in the Congo and Brazil and taping the encounters is asking a judge for leniency, claiming that cultural differences in those countries make sex with girls more acceptable. Gons G. Nachman, 42, pleaded guilty in April to possessing child pornography after admitting that he had sex with 14- to 17-year-old girls while serving as a consular officer in Brazil and Congo and documenting the encounters in pictures and videos. The judge has agreed to delay Nachman’s sentencing until Aug. 22 so that he can be examined by noted forensic psychologist Stanton Samenow. Defense attorney Stephen Stine said in court papers that a psychological examination might show that cultural differences led Nachman to believe that sexual contact with teenage girls was acceptable, and that should have an impact on what kind of sentence he receives. Prosecutors rejected the notion that Nachman’s victims somehow deserve...

Petrobras (PBR): Fill up on Brazil
2008-07-07 05:00:00 "Brazil-based Petroleo Brasileiro S.A. (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/quote.htm?sym=pbr) (NYSE: PBR (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/quote.htm?sym=pbr)) is in the heart of the global growth story," says Daniel Frishberg (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/ccount/click.php?id=2161), BizRadio host and editor of The MoneyMan Market Report (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/ccount/click.php?id=2161)."In-vestors are still seeing selloffs as buying opportunities even though the majority of stocks are in a bear market. They are focused on a few strong sectors like, energy, steel and agribusiness. They are rotating into these sectors rather than leaving the market entirely, and that is keeping the market afloat."We are not sure how long this can continue. Our Crazy Investor Index does not yet show the type of extreme fear that is typical at a bottom, so it will probably mill around in short-term rallies and selloffs until something motivates them to panic simultaneously."We will be looking at t...

2008-06-09 07:00:00 "We especially like the outlook for Brazil," say resource expert Mary Anne and Pamela Aden (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/ccount/click.php?id=2089). In The Aden Forecast (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/ccount/click.php?id=2089) they look at commodities and the iShares Brazil ETF (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/quote.htm?sym=ewz) (ASE: EWZ (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/quote.htm?sym=ewz))."Commodit-ies in general have been under downward pressure since March. That too followed huge rises of over 80% in global food prices. "And while commodity prices may be taking a breather now, along with gold and silver, we don’t think that’s going to last long."The era of cheap food and energy is over. That’s because, once again, this is mainly a demand based rise. There is simply more growing demand compared to the current world supply. "The people of China, India and other countries, for instance, are eating more grain and meat, just as they have been consuming much more ...

Expert confident about property in Brazil
2008-06-06 02:00:00 Investing in Brazilian property could be one of the most successful ways of negotiating the current economic uncertainty, it has been suggested. UK property, the stock market and even traditional safe havens like gold have suffered since the beginning of credit crunch and many investors are searching for more profitable alternatives. Their best strategy could be to buy land and property in emerging economies, according to Jonathan Garner of Morgan Stanley. He told Reuters he has been recommending to his clients that they consider investing in growing markets such as Brazil for a number of reasons. "The credit crunch has very limited relevance to many emerging markets. Not only are the banks in good shape, you've also got households that are not overextended," Mr Garner explained. Many overseas investors already appear to have spotted the potential offered by the South American country's economy, as figures published by the Central Bank showed that foreign direct inv...

India, Brazil next to take issue with Open XML
2008-05-30 20:41:00 After South Africa voiced its objections to how the Open XML standards ratification proceedings were conducted, the standards bodies of both India and Brazil are registering similar complaints. The IEC has confirmed that it received two additional appeals from India and Brazil before the deadline. A fourth country is said to have considered filing an appeal, but the standards body has not confirmed this, and declined to say how many appeals it had received. It should be noted that the deadline was actually last night, and not Saturday as originally reported by BetaNews: there was some confusion both among the standardization bodies and in the media over when the appeals needed to be received. Thus, some say additional appeals could arrive late: it is not clear whether or not they will be accepted, however."At the [ballot resolution meeting], the Brazilian delegation was not allowed to present an important proposal regarding the legacy binary mapping," reads an important paragraph from...

Sugar: Food product or Fuel Source : Brazil leading the way
2008-05-23 01:52:00 Do you every keep up with the sugar you consume? It seems like we go through sugar almost like drinking water. Tea is one our biggest consumption. Then there is soda, cookies, and many other food contain sugar or some derivative of it. The other day was search the great database of the wiki and discovered the at the world leader of sugar is Brazil. Brazil produces over 32 million tons of sugar. That is allot of sugar, how many candy bars will that make? Now this next fact is quite amazing: Around half of the Brazil's yearly top grade sugar cane, Icumsa 45 crop is held for ethanol production rather than sugar. This makes Brazil one of the leaders in the alternative fuel. Bravo.Sugar for the sweet tooth and getting you to work.Cheers
