Unfortunately, the one time I ate there, I just wasn't impressed with the food. However, it's got such a great reputation, I really need to go back.

BBD # 15: Festive Breads - New Year Pretzel
2009-01-02 07:52:00 Annarasa chose "Festive Bread" for the 15 th edition of Bread Baking Day. I baked a Pandoro for the Culinary Advent Calendar. Fortunately the festive season means the time around and including the Christmas and New Year holidays. So I baked a New Year Pretzel A pretzel is the symbol for infinity, it is understood as a good luck charm or blessing. In some regions of Germany sharing the New Year Pretzel with others promises luck and well-being. -=========REZKONV-Recipe - RezkonvSuite v1.4Title: New Year's PretzelCategories: Baking, YeastYield: 1 Recipe Ingredients H PREFERMENT250grams Wheat flour 550, US: AP200grams Milk ca. 30° C7grams Dry yeast Or25grams Fresh yeastH FINAL DOUGH475grams Preferment250gram-s Wheat flour 550, US: AP5grams Baking malt5grams Gluten75grams Sugar1-00grams Butter100grams Egg, 2 large eggs5grams Salt1 Lemon, the peel, finely groungH GLAZING AND DECORATING1 Egg, about 50 grams Hail sized sugar Source Backtag 1/2003 Edited *RK* 12/...

Bread Baking Day #14: Coloured Breads - Pumpkin Seed Bread
2008-11-11 12:06:00 Boaz from Grainpower chose coloured breads for the 14 th editon of Bread Baking Day. The only limitation is that whatever gives the bread colour must be natural. No problem, I like the colour which Hokkaido Pumpkins give to the bread crumb. The whole family liked it. I have already baked breads with pumpkin puree but neither this nor this had this wonderful colour. Unfortunately I had to take a picture from the whole bread with artificial light. The recipe is easy. I made a preferment from 125 g all-purpose flour (Weizenmehl 550) , 150 g water, 1/8 tsp dried yeast. About 16 h later I added 250 g pumpkin puree, 375 g all-purpose flour, 30 g toasted pumpkin seeds, 1 tsp. dried yeast and 10 g salt. Knead until the dough comes together and adjust the water or flour amount if necessary. Let rest until doubled in volume, form a boule and proof until a finger print doesn't come out quick. Bake on a baking stone at 220°C for about 40 minutes until the internal temperatur reac...

Bread Baking Day #12: Small Breads - Stout, Oat and Honey Knots
2008-07-21 09:09:00 Aparna from My Diverse Kitchen chose small breads for this month's edition of Bread Baking Day. Small bread means "Brötchen" in German and there is a wide choice. The "Brötchen" I have already baked you'll find here. I like small breads with whole grains or other grains than wheat. This recipe sounded interesting and just right for this event. A pint of stout awaits a slice of bread and butter, this bread combines all. Again I bought some stout and began to bake. While baking a great smell spread over the kitchen. My family couldn't wait to try the knots, for example with roastbeef and for the vegetarians with cheese The recipe was easy to follow, my oats were already browned within 5 minutes, than the oats began to smoke. I used whole meal spelt. There is a video which shows how to make the knots. -=========REZKONV-Recipe - RezkonvSuite v1.4Title: Stout, Oat and Honey KnotsCategories: Bread, YeastYield: 1 Recipe Ingredients 75grams Rolled oats500ml Stout or ot...

Herb Scallion Drop Biscuits
2008-06-04 23:06:00 These aren’t southern biscuits- notice the absence of shortening, lard, or butter. I made these with olive oil, herbs, and scallions instead. BBD #10 - Breakfast Breads! Honey Wheat Bread With Poppy Seeds and Lemon
2008-05-13 00:00:00 Melissa from Baking A Sweet Life hosts the 10th edition of Bread Baking Day. She chose Breakfast Breads. In our family we normally don't have special breads for breakfast. During the week we enjoy the breads I've baked. Sometimes the children eat muesli/granola, I prefer plain yoghurt. At weekends we prefer Brötchen, which means small breads in German. I can't say what's the definition for a breakfast bread. If you look at Webster's Online Dictionary there is only a definition for the German word, not for the English one. For BBD#02 I already chose a bread from the breakfast bread section in Daniel Leader's Bread Alone, this time I chose Honey Wheat Bread With Poppy Seeds and Lemon I used white poppy seeds, so you only have the crunch but not the black flecks in your bread. Only a hint of lemon emphazises the light sweetness of the bread. I followed the recipe below except the fermenting. After shaping the dough into a ball I did the fermentation in the fridge, becau...

Batata nu Shaak (Rasedar Aloo ki Sabzi/Potatoes in Tomato Gravy)
2008-04-10 10:31:00 A delicacy in a Gujarati household and in almost every traditional Gujarati function. The potatoes are simmered in spiced tomato gravy. My mother in law adds Kalonji seeds (onion seeds) and I notice that this adds to the flavor of the dish. The potatoes are so well cooked along with the spicy tomato gravy; that this process of cooking allows the little starch from the potatoes to thicken the gravy as well.

We have two fishes and five breads only, JESUS
2008-03-26 05:02:00 We have two fishes and five breads only, JESUS I don?t share my opinion about my religion but the title charms me. Jesus made two fishes and five breads became many. In my opinion; the miracle showed that we have development our talent from one to many. We are born with same talent. One talent to a person is equal than two talent to another person. Let us analysis in real world. A rich man and a poor one; rich man is born with higher talent. Many facilities are provided to him, money is the first one. He can do as he wants. He can enter to best school; eat the best food, going everywhere. Otherwise; a poor is born with constraint facilities. He hasn?t support facilities to him as the rich. If a poor said, I have nothing and become lazy because of condition, better he never been born. If a poor think that if I don?t have a job because of natural conditions, in my opinion he must die. Otherwise, the rich which has everything and decide to stay at home, no willingness to find a jo...

Beetroot Sambar (Beetroot in a spiced lentil gravy)
2008-03-19 11:56:00 Sambar is a very traditional dish served in almost every South Indian household. The lentil based gravy has many different variations in each region. The sambar gets its spice and tanginess from the tamarind extract and sambar powder. The spice powder called ?Sambar Powder? that is added is also atypical to every household. Each family, each region has their own subtle variation of this powder that it makes a huge difference to the way sambar tastes.

Bastiaan Bakery & Cafe
2008-03-14 04:58:00 I love eating at bakeries. The smell of freshly made breads, rolls and pastries plus the warmth of these eateries is enough to make you feel at home and comfortable.Bastiaan Bakery and Cafe is one of those places. We found it while walking on the Hongmei pedestrian street which is littered with many restaurants and cafes. It was very busy on that Sunday that we visited. A lot of people preferred to sit outside on the sidewalk as it was a sunny afternoon. It was still quite cold but I guess when the sun is shining down it can be nice and brisk. We wanted to eat alfresco but there were no tables left.We don't regret having lunch inside because the atmosphere was even nicer with lots of fresh food on display at the counter to entice you and a host of Easter chocolates on sale. The menu was pretty extensive for a bakery and I decided to have a roast chicken and avocado salad while David went for a salmon sandwich.Bottled apple and orange juice.Fresh juice is also served. There was quite ...
