How To Go About Choosing A Cat Breed That Suits You
2008-06-04 14:49:00 By Birgit HulsingDomestic cats make great pets for most homes because they are very easy to care for and generally bond easily with humans. Most of the societies and cultures around the world have made it a practice to adopt cats into their family structures. However, domestic cats do vary quite a bit in their physical design and personalities from one breed to the next. Choosing a cat breed that suits you and your family is not a task that should be taken lightly. Nor should choosing a cat breed that suits you seem like a difficult task. The first consideration when choosing a cat breed is the size of your living area. You may always think of cats as being leisurely lounge lizards, but many breeds spend as much time playing as lounging. Playful cat breeds need plenty of room to play. Also, the larger the play area and the more there is to do, such as another cat to interact with, the less likely the cat is to go mad if it doesn't see you much for a few days. That leads to the second...

Puppy Food For Large/Giant Breed Dogs
2008-06-02 19:28:00 Many companies have, or are coming out with, higher protein, grain free foods. While these can be wonderful for the full grown dog, not all of them are appropriate for puppies under one year of age. It is not the high protein that is a concern but most of these foods are too high in calcium for growing pups. Some people and breeders are still skeptical about feeding pups higher protein. I disagree with this as I have seen pups raised on high protein foods and they are doing great. I correspond with breeders feeding high protein grain free food to weaned pups and plan on doing so with my next litter.   Here is a link for your review: http://www.b-naturals.com/newsl-etter/puppy-protein/ Now for the calcium: Natures Variety Instinct is what my girls eat and do great on. However with calcium at 2.49% it is too high for growing pups under one year of age. EVO is another excellent grain free food but at 3.0% calcium it is also too high. The best one I have seen on the marke...

Angel Customers - A New Breed of Investors?
2008-05-07 23:57:00 Angel Customer - An individual customer or a client of a product or a service who invests his or her own money into the startup providing those services. Sounds crazy? It shouldn't. Just think about it. How good would you think a product or service must be if one or more customers using it is willing to invest his/her money into the company behind it. Darn good! I personally would atleast think so. Such an act is definitely an excellent form of attestation to the product/service and would stand as a great testimony beyond doubt. Still think I'm crazy? ;-) Check this out - WhyPark.com says it raised US$230K in angel funding from one of its customers - an investor and domainer named Alan Macomber. Do we have any "Angel Readers" on Startups.in ? If yes, let's talk ;-) We'd love to have you join our bandwagon.
Do today's professional sports breed mediocrity?
2008-05-07 18:41:00 Think quickly about your favorite sport. I'm sure you can easily think of one team that is a perpetual basement dweller. For example, the Tampa Bay (Devil) Rays are constantly in the bottom of the league (MLB). I was a bit surprised to see their current record standing at 17-15.Some may say that it's up to the owners and general managers to provide their cities with competitive teams. If they were good businessmen and cared about their team and their sport, they would do what it takes to create a successful and profitable team.I'm almost of the mind that it has more to do with the size of the leagues. The NFL has the most teams (32). They're probably best able to support their teams, all in the US, due to the way the American public devours that sport. Many people live, eat, and breathe football. The one thing I think that supports that sport is the length of the season, being just four months for the regular season, the playoffs taking another month. Because watchers h...

The Persian Cat Breed
2008-04-22 19:12:00 The Persian cat has been the choice of many cat owners for a very long time. Even though their popularity has declined to a certain extend in the past decade or so, the Persian cat is still one of the most sought after cat breeds around. However, one word of caution though, the Persian cat needs a lot of care and grooming especially since it is a long haired breed. It is especially important to groom the Persian cat’s coat at least once a day if not more. If the coat of a Persian cat is well taken care of, its beauty can be really breathtaking. The Persian’s beautiful coat comes in different shades of color in Black, Chocolate, Red, Blue, Lilac, Cream, Chinchilla, Silver, and White colors. White coated Persian Cats can have blue, orange and mismatched eye colors. Besides that, you can also find the Persian cat breed in tortoiseshell, shaded, smoke, tipped, tabby, silver tabby, and bicolor patterns. The beauty of the Persian cat is largely responsible for its popularity among...

How To Pick A Dog Breed
2008-04-21 21:46:00 Buying a new dog can be an exciting experience. However, before buying a dog, you should research different dog breeds before selecting one. This article lays some principles on how to pick a dog breed. Also, you'll learn some questions you should ask yourself before choosing a dog.The key to proper dog breed selection is research. Take as much time as you need to research different dog breeds. As you're learning about dogs, consider the breeds that would compliment you and your family. For example, ask you yourself how often you stay at home. If you are out of the house a lot, you should not own a dog breed that needs much exercise. But if you take daily morning runs, it would make sense to pick a dog breed that likes to exercise and can keep up with your pace. Here are a couple other things to consider.Think about your living arrangements. How large is your house? Large dogs need more space to roam than small dogs. Where will you keep your dog, inside or outside? Many dogs do not...

A Brief overview of the Bombay cat breed.
2008-04-15 13:13:00 Nikki Horner is given credit for developing this breed after hearing many people stating that ?I?d love to own a panther?. So from her Louisville, Kentucky home she set out to develop a Panther like cat. Her goal was on producing a copper-eyed black shorthaired cat with the exotic appearance of a ?mini? or ?parlor panther?. So she started her development of the breed in 1953 by selecting of a Black American Shorthair male with deep colored copper eyes and a Grand Champion Sable Burmese female. After a long process of breeding she became able to consistently produce a black cat. The Bombay achieved CFA Championship status in 1976. Bombay?s are very unique cats. Many Bombays can be leashed trained and love to play ?fetch?. The Bombay is very outgoing and are very intelligent. They love to greet visitors ( they sure will not hide ) to your home and interact well with children. Bombays get along well with other pets. Bombay?s are true lap cats, they love to sit on their owners laps...

Costco (COST): 'Best of breed' retailer
2008-04-15 07:00:00 "Finding its way on our short-term bullish list is Costco (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/quote.htm?sym=cost)(NASDAQ: COST (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/quote.htm?sym=cost)), our 'focus stock of the week'," says Chris Johnson (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/quote.htm?sym=).In his Insightful Investor (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/quote.htm?sym=), the contrarian advisor -- who combines both fundamental and technical analysis -- looks at what he calls the "best of breed" among discount retailers. Here is his review. "The warehouse giant is currently seeing a positive mix of technical strength along with growing pessimism that makes it a potential outperformer. Costco is one company that has maintained a level of demand not seen throughout the bulk of the retailing sector. "COST's core business, which caters to small businesses and households willing to buy in bulk, has maintained strength despite the slowing economy. In fact, the company's latest earnings repor...

Persian Cats - A Breed of Many Colors Part 2
2008-04-02 15:24:00 It is probably not a good idea to introduce solids into a golden program to improve type and bone. This can cause the same problems that it does in a silver program and more problems. Problems are:? It muddies the coat color? Spoils the eye color? Causes more tabby markings in a color that has not yet eliminated these markingsSilvers were being bred before 1900. The goldens were not seriously bred until the 1960s.Color is most important in the shaded or tipped cats. The pale blue color of years ago has almost disappeared from the blue Persian. A smoke is not a smoke without the dramatic color-on-top and white-underneath coat. Silvers and goldens must have the proper tipping as well as black mascara and margins with the appropriate and distinctive nose and eye color.A significant difference between chinchilla silvers and shaded silvers existed at one time. Today, some of the silvers are referred to as "neither/nors." They are neither chinchilla silvers nor shaded silvers. There are m...

Russian Airlines Develop a Super Sniffing Dog Breed!

Well, the Russian Aeroflot Airlines has its very own dog breeding centre, and a new dog breed has been developed by them for the sole purpose of having a drug and bomb-sniffing hound at the Moscow Airport. So what is this new breed like? They are a unique breed - a cross between a Siberian Husky and a Turkmen Jackal. Before you lift your eyebrows in shock, it is worth mentioning that this rather unique combination took 27 years to perfect and the result is amazing! The Russian Aeroflot claims it has managed to produce the world's greatest sniffer dog, by combining the genes of a Husky with a Jackal. Their breeders claim that they are much more effective than the Labradors or German Shepherds that are more commonly used in the West. At first sight, they look much like a normal Husky, although they are a bit smaller and have a Jackal's thick black whiskers. The Husky and Turkmen Jackal was picked for the...

Bye-Bye Cardboard: The New Breed of Whole Grain Pastas
2008-03-27 03:36:00 Hi everyone. It?s been a wild and wacky day, so my original posting plans were obliterated by a slew of tiny errands and must-dos. In particular, I spent too much time teaching myself some advanced pilates tricks with the latex band (to share with my class). Think Elmer Fudd meets Cirque de Soleil. But in between the teaching, grading, recipe testing, and a trip to the park with the Nickster, I was scheming about dinner. Once I settled on an easy option, I decided it was post-worthy (I?ll let you be he final judges; feel free to hit the gong). Moreover, my pledge for a month of dinner posts is almost up, so I need to hop to it and squeeze in a few final offerings. On tonight?s menu? An easy dish prepared from the pantry (and the basil plant in the backyard?yes, it?s warm enough for basil here in Texas): whole grain fettuccine with sundried tomato pesto and olives. It takes about 20 minutes from start to finish.I haven?t always been a fan of whole grain pasta. My first encounter was mem...
