Matt Garza Traded For Delmon Young In Blockbuster
2007-11-29 04:10:00 UPDATE, 11-28-07 at 9pm: It's now a done deal. The Twins substituted 21 year-old reliever Eduardo Morlan instead of Rincon. UPDATE, 11-28-07 at 7:30pm: This thing hasn't gone through yet because of concerns over Rincon's elbow. The deal will either be finalized or killed by Thursday, according to Scott Miller. The trade has been in the works for a few days. UPDATE, 11-28-07 at 4pm: Neal reports that the Twins have interest in Aaron Rowand, which is really surprising given his reported demands. I don't see it. Neal adds that Craig Monroe may now be non-tendered and the Garza trade will not stop Bill Smith from shopping Johan Santana. By the way, talks for Coco Crisp persist. FROM 11-28-07 at 2pm: Wow! That rumor really didn't die! La Velle E. Neal III says the Twins are close to a multiplayer deal. They'll send Matt Garza, Jason Bartlett, and Juan Rincon to the Rays for Delmon Young, Brendan Harris, and Jason Pridie. I...

Brendan Harris update
2007-08-04 13:05:00 What are you doing to our boy, Joe Maddon?A week ago, we adopted Tampa Bay shortstop Brendan Harris, a Queensbury, New York native, as our favorite non-Yankee. The View loves the way Harris plays, and he was born in Albany near where I live. So, The View has adopted him.It was an interesting week for Harris. With Ben Zobrist, whom Harris outplayed earlier in the season to win the shortstop job, recalled from AAA, he has been playing mostly second base. The View isn't happy about the Devil Rays messing with Harris, but at least he's still in the lineup. And I guess the fact that Zobrist is playing should also make me happy, since he played for the local minor league team, the Class A Tri-City ValleyCats, a couple of years back.Harris is currently hitting .301 with 8 home runs and 43 RBI. As long as Maddon keeps him in the lineup, The View will be happy.Around the Blogosphere• Neifi Perez is not very smart. Sportable• Getting some things off his chest. Epic Carnival• When exact...
Brendan Harris: Officially The View's favorite non-Yankee
2007-07-27 12:59:00 The View hails from upstate New York, and is an unabashed Yankee fan.We also, however, have a soft spot for local players who make it big. There aren't too many big-league players from this neck of the woods, mostly because the weather just isn't warm enough to play baseball year-round as it is in many other areas of the country and in the Dominican Republic. For me, the local boy making good is Tampa Bay Devil Rays shortstop Brendan Harris. After bouncing around for several season, Harris has earned the everyday shortstop job in Tampa Bay and is having an outstanding season.More importantly, though, he's from Albany, which is a 10-minute drive across the river from me.So, The View is officially naming Harris our "Favorite non-Yankee Major League Baseball Player."That means you'll get occasional updates on Harris, lots of probably unprofessional rooting for our (my) newly-adopted local hero, tidbits about him and his background, and more. If I'm very, very lucky and I get help f...
Brendan Harris
2007-06-20 20:19:00 Brendan Harris was acquired by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for the ubiquitous PTBNLOC (Player To Be Named Later Or Cash). It has been a trade that helps to cement a reputation of shrewd dealing because Haris quickly displaced the Opening Day SS Ben Zobrist and has continued to hit despite a 110 previous major league ABs that indicated otherwise. What drew my attention in particular was his SLG. It is higher than the more acclaimed ROY candidate, Delmon Young, has been able to produce (.495 versus .405). (ed: By a lot!) I have a very difficult time believing that is sustainable, but their peripherals also favor Harris as he walked 18 times and struck out 39 times versus 13 and 57, respectively, for Young. A look at Brendan Harris' minor league totals indicate this season was possible. He broke on to the prospect scene following a 2002 season in which he had 61 extra base hits. Tha was followed by a 2003 one in which 46 XBHs. In the following year, h...

Brendan Harris - #16 - Third Base - 6′1″ - 200lbs
2007-04-08 07:20:00 News: Brendan Harris hit a three-run homer against the Blue Jays Saturday in his first appearance of the season.Impact: He also drew a walk. B.J. Upton’s strong start means second base probably won’t be a shared position, and Harris just doesn’t have the range to be a quality shortstop, though that’s where he played tonight. Maybe he’ll see more time at the position if Ben Zobrist continues to slump. …[more] Read the full story.
