Life after Brett Favre
2008-03-07 09:45:00 All around the US, and especially in the state of Wisconsin, football fans are a little bit in shock. Â The news of the immortal Brett Favre retiring was something everyone saw coming, and yet most of us still don't believe it. Â Now comes the question many Packer fans and football junkies are wondering... what's next? When you start wondering what will happen to the NFL without Favre, you will probably realize that this question has been answered many times before and the truth is, pro ably nothing will change. Â Sports as strong and established as football go on with or without any individual. Â The football machine will just keep on rolling. However, if anyone considers him or herself a real football fan, that person has to admit Brett will be missed. Whether you loved him or hated him, he was just plain fun to watch. Nobody took on the roll of the beloved rebel like he did during his 16 year career with Green Bay. He's a specimen we may see once in a...

Despite Love-Fest, Favre Not Best Ever
2008-03-07 02:29:00 I'm not going to write one of those sappy love letters to Brett Favre that I keep seeing all over the Internet. The fact is, I've never really been a Brett Favre fan. I've always considered him one of the most overrated quarterbacks in the NFL. In fact, I'm convinced that the Packers are better off without him. And trust me, there is a contingent in that organization that agrees; you don't accidentally post his retirement news on your website, then quickly accept his retirement without any effort to talk him out of it if you want him back. After all, his awful game against the Giants cost his team a trip to the Super Bowl. Yes, there was extremely bad weather (understatement of the year), but the game was nothing more than a continuation of Brett Favre's disappointing showings in big games. Since Mike Holmgren left, Favre has consistently come up small in big games. Yet somehow he continues to get a free ride. The media loves him. Note to NFL quarterbacks: be nice ...

Au Revoir, Brett Favre
2008-03-06 17:15:00 Click here to see Favre's press conference streamed live. Sometimes, certain players transcend the game of football. This is a Buffalo Bills blog, and Brett Favre is a transcendent player. Today, the legend is officially announcing his retirement from the game. It has no effect on the Buffalo Bills; like Favre's playing career, it has a profound effect on any football fan. Brett Favre wasn't the greatest quarterback of all time. Nonetheless, he's a legend. He was, at the very core of his mythology, a gunslinger. You'll be hard-pressed to find a quarterback that was as much fun to watch ever again. Au revoir, Brett. You'll be missed. Check out NFL.com at noon to see Favre's retirement press conference.
Life Without the Internet
2008-03-06 13:31:00 From Monday at 11:00am until Wednesday at 10:00pm, something was missing in my life. That something was internet access. I wasn?t in the remote wilderness; I was in New York City. I even had a computer, although I could not justify paying $17.95 a night for internet access in my hotel room. I even considered paying $8 for internet access at LaGuardia airport (cheers again to Albuquerque Airport for having free wireless internet), but I didn?t think it was worth it. Instead, I had to learn about what was going on in the world through the USA Today and the limited time I had in my hotel room watching TV.Over the last few days, my life has been incomplete. I couldn?t check my e-mail or visit my usual website for news and information including the Post-Gazette, Washington Post, Deadspin and Google Reader. For example, I didn?t know that Sidney Crosby returned to the Penguins until after the game ended. I couldn?t see if people had excellent best man speech ideas for me based on ...

Brett Favre
2008-03-06 11:31:00 A legend has left us, and the world of football will never be the same. Brett Favre's career and his legacy have been discussed in depth so much everywhere by now, I won't go into great detail. Favre leaves the NFL holding virtually every major statistical mark a quarterback can achieve in all-time career categories, including wins, touchdown passes, and passing yards. While it is possible his numbers will one day be bested, we will not likely see that day come any season soon.Favre was a player like no other and I always hoped that the television scheduling gods would look upon me and grace me with a Packers game. Favre will be sorely missed by the entire state of Wisconsin and his fans the world over, myself included. However, from Favre's position, this was likely going to be his best chance to go out as close to the top as he would be able to. Last year was one of his best and finished off an unparralled career.

One Last Letter to Brett
2008-03-05 18:48:00 It's not like I've never been called a homer before, so here's one last homer post for Brett.Dear Brett,I want to thank you. Throughout my entire football life you've been the starting QB of my favorite team since I can remember (it all started when I was only 4). Growing up my Dad and I rarely missed a Packers' game and my love for the Packers essential stems from my love of watching you play the game. You were so fun to watch and you played the game like it should be played, like a little kid who's having fun. You've always been my favorite player growing up, having to defend my fandom to all the Vikings fans at school. But it didn't bother me, because I knew that they'd never win a Super Bowl anyways. You've always been my favorite player and you always will be.I admire you and view you as a great role model. You've been through so much and overcome so much both on the field and off. Whether it's starting your career as a 7th string QB, leading USM to a come-from-behi...

Broncos Defy NFL, National Brett Favre Day, Announce Player Signings
2008-03-05 00:17:00 The Denver Broncos on Tuesday re-signed defensive end John Engelberger and tight end Nate Jackson, Head Coach Mike Shanahan announced. As per club policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed. Engelberger (6-foot-4, 252 pounds) is entering his ninth NFL season and fourth year with the Broncos, who acquired him in a trade from San Francisco on July 15, 2005. He spent his first five professional seasons with the 49ers after they selected him in the second round (35th overall) of the 2000 NFL Draft from Virginia Tech University. A 15-game starter for Denver last season, Engelberger has appeared in every game for the club in each of the last two years. In 124 career regular-season games (74 starts), he has totaled 313 tackles (216 solo), 19.5 sacks (133.5 yds.), 10 pass breakups, 12 forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries. In 2007, Engelberger led the Broncos' defensive line with 59 tackles (40 solo) while adding one sack (8 yds.), two pass breakups and one forced fumble in 16 g...

Brett Favre Retires: The end of an era...
2008-03-04 22:09:00 [editor's note, by River City Rage]: Acme Packing Company is a great source for more Green Bay News! If you've turned on ESPN or strolled across the radio dial to sports talk today this simply won't be news. Brett Favre has retired today. In retrospect, the Green Bay Packers were smart in making a backup web page for the breaking news because it seems the entire NFL has stopped for the day to recognize the retirement of one of its greats. As a Jacksonville fan and a general admirer of the sport, I too will tip my hat and raise my glass for one of the most interesting players to watch. Though I don't have all the love in the world for the guy, I respect what he's accomplished on the field. Let's be frank here, Brett Favre has played for longer than the Jaguars have existed. When Brett Favre was drafted I was in the third grade. I trace my football consciousness to 1993, one year after Brett became a Packer. I've never known an NFL without Brett...

Brett Favre Announced is Retiring After 17 Seasons is One Of The Best Quart
2008-03-04 20:55:00 Brett Favre announced that he is retiring after 17 seasons. It is a sad thing but also I do understand why he made this decision. I actually had tears in my eyes and I don?t even know why. Watching all the new coverage of the announcement. Maybe because it is end of era in NFL football and the Green Bay Packers. It is sad wont ever get to see him play football ever again. In my opinion he is one of the best quarterbacks that has ever that played the game of football. Brett Favre is legend and a real person that really loved playing the game. He played football because he loves the game and not for any high pay checks. I think it shows his loyalty that he stayed with Green Bay Packers all these years. When he probably could of went to another team to get paid so much more. But he stayed with them all these seasons because of the love the game and loyalty to the team and fans. He will for sure be missed in the fall when the season of football starts all over again. Seeing the Green Ba...

Brett Favre Retiring From The NFL
2008-03-04 15:38:00 Fox Sports' Jay Glazer is reporting, and Buzz Cook, Favre's agent has confirmed, that Brett Favre has told Packer's Head Coach Mike McCarthy he is retiring. Favre is apparently upset that the Pack was unable to get Randy Moss, and this decision was, in no doubt, affected by Green Bay's lack-luster attempt to obtain Moss, this year or last off-season. This is typical Brett Favre. Selfish. Yea, he'll go down with all those records, but I'll remember Favre's last pass, an interception, and his "I am taking my ball and going home" attitude he is expressing in quitting now. At least Packers fans can take heart that Favre can not hold the franchise hostage. The best comes from JSOnline -- Quarterback Brett Favre told Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy Monday night that he was going to retire. But his agent, James (Bus) Cook, told the Journal Sentinel this morning that he believes Favre wants to play another year and didn't get the sense that the Packers wanted hi...
