Brian May: Russia Today interview
2011-10-06 22:31:00 RT caught up with legendary Queen guitarist Brian May, who also happens to be an astrophysicist, after a symposium of astronomers in the Canary Islands to talk about links between music and science, God, the universe and the mystery of death. May says being both a musician and a scientist gives him an interesting observation point to view both. "I love pure science and I love pure music. They are not the same for sure, but certainly throughout the centuries there have been people, who were immersed in both of them, from Leonardo da Vinci to Patrick Moore. Maybe it's an abstraction thing, maybe people who like those things, don't like the clutter of the world we live in. They just like to find the essence of life," he told RT. As a man of art, May has insights into life, which he has to put under question as a man of science, he says. "If you say 'there is no God,' where is evidence there is no God? You can say 'I don't know.' Being an agnostic to me is a scientific point of v...

Brian May: unwikipedia!
2011-06-06 21:51:00 Brian's Guitars: http://uncyclopedia.wikia.com/w-iki/Brian_May Brian owns a huge selection of guitars, none of which he can play. He thinks they look pretty, though, and makes them himself by carving out the guitar shapes with his tougue. He once made his own guitar out of his hair and Freddie's sweaty moustache which he called "Black Curly" (the guitar, not the moustache). Black Curly: Brian's favorite hair guitar White Albino: a guitar he once obtained from a half-German, half-Irish monk. He then poisoned the monk by putting a tablespoon of stomach acid in his beer. He then cut off his hair with a rusty Stratocaster and hurried away before the cats with laser eyes detected him. Brown Unlike-Others-Of-Its-Kind: a guitar fashioned out of his father-in-law's house. This guitar produces the best sound ever heard by human ears (with the exception of Freddie Mercury and Roger Taylor's voices), however, it had the unfortunate side-effect of making his father-in-law homeless.Oh well...

Brian May: to play live with Tangerine Dream!

Afternoon Update - Bruce Springsteen, Neil Diamond, Frank Zappa, Brian May
2008-05-09 01:20:00 What do you get when you see Bruce Springsteen in a small theater? Last night he and the E-Street Band played a fund raiser at and for the Count Basie Theater in New Jersey and the lucky few who made it got to hear an all-70's show, including complete playings, in order, of both the Born to Run and Darkness on the Edge of Town albums. They even got the Max Weinberg 7 horn section on a few songs in addition to the regular E-Street Band horns. Neil Diamond's "surprise" show at the Bitter End in New York last night was an obvious sellout with speakers being put in the windows so the unlucky fans could hear the show. The seven song set included three songs from his mid-60's days at Bang Records, three from the new album Home Before Dark and the classic Sweet Caroline. Diamond revealed to the crowd that he had played one of his selections, Kentucky Woman, on that very stage forty years ago.The set list:Solitary ManDon?t Go ThereHome Before DarkPretty Amazing GraceKentucky WomanCh...

BRIAN MAY SAYS "FREDDY IS METROSEXUAL''
2008-02-10 17:45:00 Queen guitarist Brian May didn?t know Freddie Mercury was gay. Brian noticed the late Freddie, who died from an AIDS-related illness in 1991, was "flamboyant" but was too focused on his music to realize anything else.He said: "It was only in the 1980s that he started bringing men backstage who had that particular Adonis look.""When I shared a room with him on tour in the early days I can assure you it was girls who generally stayed overnight.""But he seemed to be what these days you would call metrosexual. He was into his hair, his clothes. He definitely led the way with regard to preening."Brian also claims that Freddie was the shyest member of the band, whose hits include "Bohemian Rhapsody," "Another One Bites The Dust" and "Radio Ga Ga," despite his extroverted reputation. The 60-year-old musician added to Q magazine: "Contrary to how it seemed, we were all quite shy. Freddie was probably more shy than any of us. His way of coping with that was to act like a god onstage."Technora...

Saturday Video Roundup: Queen LIVE!
2008-02-02 16:56:00 Today is Imbolc, the midpoint of Winter. That’s Groundhog Day to you secular/non-pagan types (and yeah, P-Phil peeped his shadow, so throw another blanket on the bed). It’s also my birthday, and my good friend Dr. Mike Pecaut has offered up a fine present - lots of concert footage from one of my all-time favorite bands, the unparalleled Queen! I got to see them live on The Game tour, and my only regret is that this was in the Greensboro Coliseum before they did the renovation. Which meant that the acoustics were roughly that of a quonset hut in a hail storm. Still, I got to see the most amazing band in the world in person. Let’s kick the Dr. Slammy Day festivities off in style with - what else? - “Bohemian Rhapsody.” If we don’t get it out of the way now you’re just going to be rushing through the rest and missing out on some spectacular moments in the process, right? If you never saw Queen in concert, you may not know that they didn’t...

"He perfectly embodies the 'can do' attitude of LJMU; he is going to be a great Chancellor for the students and a wonderful figurehead for the University."May recently completed his doctorate in astrophysics, which had abandoned in the early 70's in favor of Queen. He recently returned to his studies and co-wrote the book Bang! The Complete History of the Universe with Patrick Moore and Chris Lintott. The University's Vice Chancelor, Michael Brown, added "In this age of celebrity culture, it is rare to find someone who has fame, fortune and universal acclaim and yet who remains true to his core values of learning and enlightenment."As Chancelor, May...

Galileo, Galileo........And Fat Bottom Girls Make Queen's Brian May's Rocke
2007-07-28 17:27:00 Who knew? The former Queen guitarist is now an astro physicist. In a rare star party Brain May attended the opening of The Great Canary Telescope. Wonders never cease I guess for a guy who wrote the guitar riffs for Bohemian Rhapsody, Fat Bottom Girls and We Will Rock You. Before being catapulted to stardom Brian May was working on his astrophysicist's degree at The Imperial College Of London. Well now he got it.Quite frankly, I think he had it before Queen because a lot of the groups songs involve references to "out there" stuff.~Leave it to NPR to provide all the "out there" stuff that mainstream media just ignores like a cheap whore. Brian May PhD
2007-07-12 10:35:00 Brian May, the multimillionaire guitarist who founded the rock group Queen, has finally completed the PhD in astrophysics that he abandoned more than 30 years ago. The 59-year-old composer of hits such as Fat Bottomed Girls and We Will Rock You turned his back on the stars for international fame with Freddie Mercury and his band. His thesis on interplanetary dust clouds lay gathering dust of its own in the attic of his home in Surrey.
