I miti del Brit-Pop ? I BLUR !
A Hop Across the Pond - My Obsession with the Brit Pop Genre
2007-08-08 11:59:00 OK, I'll readily admit to being an anglophile - I'm obsessed with anything & everything British, and the area of music is no exception. (Perhaps it's because it's part of my heritage, or perhaps it's because I'm so greatly amused by the incongruous contrast of how they can simultaneously be so polite & proper & then turn around & make such hilariously rude jokes, or maybe it's just the charming accent! At any rate, I'm bonkers for Britain!)So, here are few of my favorite British musical "thangs":The Cinematics (from Glasgow, Scotland) - "Keep Forgetting" (Isn't their style slightly reminiscent of U2? Just a bit? ;-) )Bloc Party - "Banquet" (The guitar riffs from the above two bands have a similar style; these rhythmic sensibilities are strangely derivative of bands like "English Beat/General Public & The Specials" & also the third-wave ska bands I used to listen to a lot in the early-to-mid 90's -- The Pietasters, Thumper, Mighty Might Bosstones, Sublime, Fi...
A Glaring Musical Omission from My Brit Pop Faves List
2007-08-08 11:55:00 In my July 25th post, I was remiss in mentioning Interpol as another fabu major American group (hailing from New York) that've got a Brit Pop sound:"The Heinrich Maneuver" "The Scale""Slow Hands""All Fired Up""Narc""Take You On A Cruise""C'Mere""Untitled""Stell-a Was A Diver" (Live in Koln, Germany)"Specialist""Pioneer to the Falls" (Live)"PDA""Rest My Chemistry""Mammoth" (AOL Sessions)"Number One In A Threesome""Leif Erikson" (Eurockéennes 2005)"Obstacle 1"Interpol's sound is a tad reminiscent of the band, Slowdive. Anyone remember this band from the early '90's? (They also sound a bit like The Church.)Slowdive - "Souvlaki Space Station" (Live Hamburg 1993):Slowdive - "Catch the Breeze" |
