HR jobs at risk as British Gas prepares to axe 800 more back-office roles
2007-08-20 02:00:00
Hundreds of HR jobs are under threat at British Gas after its owners announced plans to slash another 800 back-office roles by the end of the year. Parent company Centrica said in its half-year report that it would cut an extra 300 jobs at British Gas over the next four months - on top of the 500 it already had planned. All 800 jobs will be from back-office functions as Centrica continues its drive to streamline the utility. "These will be from back-office departments such as information services and HR," said a spokesman. "They will all be UK jobs, but some will be natural attrition." Centrica has introduced a £430m computer billing system at British Gas in a bid to increase efficiency. About 1,000 jobs have already been shed this year. The total for 2007 is expected to be 1,800. "In the first half [of 2007], management's rigorous approach to efficiency and cost control continued," said Centrica chairman Roger Carr in the report. "Headcount in the UK has been reduced...

The awareness in making our earth a more healthy place to live in is slowly growing and improving but we still have a long way to go. In most countries if not all, the number of cars around which are emitting poisonous gas every single minute of the day is definitely going to bring our wonderful mother nature to an end if we continue doing what we're doing everyday. That's why a few companies have introduce what we call green energy in the market. British Gas Launches Greenest Energy Tariff

Note: the following post is sponsoredI was given the opportunity today to read a press release that British Gas is launching a new green energy tariff called Zero Carbon, which will apparently be the greenest tariff available on the domestic market. I've heard of this before, and basically by agreeing to this charge on your bill, you will be leaving absolutely no carbon footprint from the energy supplied by British Gas.While this seems like a great idea in theory, I don't know how many people will be willing to spend the extra money to make this a reality. Especially those people who are on a tight budget as it is. I'd like to think that I'm somewhat environmentally conscious (we recycle, use a compost, and I ride scooter) ... but if I were faced with an optional added charge to my invoice, I'd like to say that I would agree to it and pay it, for the good of the environment ... but some part of me seems think I wouldn't. Would you?BRITISH GAS LAUNCHES GREENEST ENERGY TARIFF9 A...

British Gas and Customer Service
1970-01-01 00:59:00
A couple of years ago we had a new house built. It was officially a conversion from a little chef restaurant, but in actuality there isn't much left of the original building. When it came to having the utilities connected, I expected it to be a simple and relatively inexpensive job, as we already had gas, water and electric supplies to the building. Boy was I wrong, the site surveyor from British Gas turned up, took one look and began sucking air through his teeth, "Gonna cost you a fortune for a gas connection mate, seeing as there is no gas here" "Yes there is" I replied, that nice big 2 inch pipe is full of it", "No its a dead pipe", was his expert reply. I promptly disproved this theory by glibly walking over too it, turning the valve on and listening to the high pressure rush of escaping gas with a triumphant smile on my face! "Still can't use it" says he. "Why the hell not" I demanded "Because it isn't on my plan, so officially it doesn't exist", oh great, so anything not...
