This is pretty interesting, UFC Fighter Brock Lesnar, who is better known for his WWE / wrestling career, but is currently in the MMA spotlight for his UFC 81 fight against Frank Mir, faced off with New England Patriot football player Stephen Neal in the 1999 NCAA Wrestling Championships. Check out these college wrestling heavy weights going at it, pretty good match up. Go to the blog entry to see the video!
Frank Mir Takes Down the Beast, Brock Lesnar
2008-02-03 23:13:00
I without a doubt want to see Brock Lesnar fight again.  Brock did a hell of a job coming into the fight against Frank Mir.  Brock immediately overwhelmed Frank with a take down going into side control immediately and then dropping some hammer fists on Frank.  Brock continued to overpower Mir while on top, throwing a barrage of punches.  After landing a shot to the back of Mir’s head, referee Steve stepped in and broke up the fight, giving Mir his time to recover.  The two stood up again, Frank threw a kick which appeared to hurt Frank much more than Brock. Brock then threw a punch while knocked Frank down, but wasn’t a knock out or flash knock out.  Brock then got on top of Frank and threw a barrage of punches yet again.  Frank was in big trouble at this point.  Using his heart, he mustard’ up an armbar attempted, following by a knee leg lock and ended the fight with some great jiu jitsu. Although Brock lost the fight, Brock showed some amazing power and ...

Kurt Angle and The Undertaker were both shown on screen with name labels to the live and PPV audience as both fighters were in the cage before the introductions. Now they just showed "Stone Cold" Steve Austin with a beer in his hand. Crowd cheered big for Austin. Bruce Buffer announces, with great passion, "the former WWE superstar - Brock Lesnar!" Now Sable is shown on screen. And it's time for round one. Lesnar immediately takes Mir down and has half guard. Lesnar is throwing short punches with furry. Ref breaks the two - apparently Lesnar loses a point for hitting Mir in the back of the head. No warning before the point deduction. Restart on the feet and Lesnar drops Mir with a big punch to the face. Lesnar goes berzerk on the ground with punches. Mir slaps on an armbar, but Lesnar escapes. Lesnar stands up and Mir grabs a leg and locks in a leg lock - Lesnar taps out!Fight ends at 1:30 in Round 1.source: mmanews.com

Brock Lesnar Pre UFC 81 Interview Video about Upcoming Fight with Frank Mir
2008-01-31 20:45:00
Brock Lesnar comes off very humble during his pre UFC 81 interview.  Brock talks about  he knows that anything can happen in the ring.  He can get get caught right on the button and lights out.  He hasn’t been fighting long, but he’s humble enough to know this.  Brock’s working a bit on his ground game, he jokes that he knows an Armbar and a Toe Lock.  He talks about his pro wrestler status and how he understands that there’s a lot of hype.  He understands that people dislike him because he’s entering the UFC as a feature because of his wrestling background.  He states that he still has to pay his dues to prove himself and win the fans over. He’s asked why he’s going up against Frank Mir, a former UFC champion.  He feels that by taking on Frank, if he defeats him, it’s instant credibility, which he needs going into the UFC as someone who is hyped up. If he goes up against someone who’s not so well known and wins, it will...

Super Bowl Showdown Between Lesnar And Mir Is Set
2007-11-07 21:34:00
For Brock Lesnar's first foray into the world's premiere MMA organization, he'll take on former champ Frank Mir on the night before Super Bowl LXI. It's a match up of future vs. past and could end up headlining the UFC 81 card.Lesnar, a highly decorated collegiate wrestler, made his transition to MMA with the destruction of Min Soo Kim in 69 seconds. Due to this limited introduction, we only know that he has incredible strength and even better take downs. However, this might be enough to beat Mir, who hasn't looked impressive since 2004 when he submitted Tim Sylvia in 50 seconds to win the title.Following that win, Mir was involved in a motorcycle accident and had to relinquish the title. He's been just 2-2 since then, with both losses coming by first round knockout. Dana White is right. This is an interesting match up. But it's certainly not a blockbuster and shouldn't headline a pre-SB card which could draw huge buys solely on its timing. The blockbuster, if one exis...

By Frank Mir Hello everyone. Hey thanks so much for your interest in keeping in touch. As you can see or have heard I have signed to fight Brock Lesnar on Feb 2nd for the UFC. I am really looking forward to this fight and would like to first thank Joe Silva and Dana White and Lorenzo Fertita for offering me this fight and making it happen. I have fought for the UFC for years and consider it my home. They provide me with opportunities of a lifetime over and over again. I would also like to thank Brock Lesnar for signing on for the fight. My roots are in Karate then Wrestling then Brazilian Jiu Jitsu so I have huge respect for wrestlers. Top wrestlers have a work ethic that is second to none. Brock is an excellent athlete and had an unbelievable collegiate career where he simply dominated. I am looking forward to the challenge. I was hoping that I would be offered a fight on the Super Bowl Card since it is a huge event and takes place in Las Vegas. I love fighting at home in ...

Brock Lesnar: Give Me An Opponent - 30 Oct 2007 12:44:26pm
2007-10-30 13:44:00
By Damon Martin At UFC 77, the promotion announced the official signing of highly sought after heavyweight, Brock Lesnar, who gained much fame and notoriety after a career in the WWE and is now set to debut in the Octagon, likely in early 2008. Rumors circulated for months who might land the services of the former NCAA heavyweight wrestling champion, but it seemed like the UFC was always the front runner in the competition. ?It boils down to they?re really the only company on the block and on the planet that is willing to I guess take Brock Lesnar to the next level,? said Lesnar. ?I think it works good for both the UFC and Brock Lesnar. For me it was quite easy. Other companies, it was just a proven fact on the K-1 event, how poor their promotion was. There was a lot of different things, we kind of left K-1 with a bad taste in our mouths and wanted to come and be part of a professional organization.? (Continue Reading)
Brock Lesnar: ?This Isn?t a Joke For Me.? - 30 Oct 2007 02:06:39am
2007-10-30 03:06:00
By David L. Hudson, Jr. Many gifted athletes have failed when attempting to transition from their sport to another. Reynaldo ?Skeets? Nehemiah dominated the 110 meter high hurdles in track & field but failed to make an impression as a receiver for the San Francisco 49ers. ?His Airness,? Michael Jordan became a cultural icon and basketball legend for the Chicago Bulls but struck out in his attempt at Major League Baseball. The great Althea Gibson dominated the tennis world in the late 1950s, winning U.S. Open and Wimbledon titles, but she failed to win a single LPGA event when she tried her hand at professional golf. Ed ?Too Tall? Jones terrified NFL quarterbacks with his speed and agility and 6-9? frame, but his experiment with boxing sent him back to the NFL. Former WWE pro wrestling superstar Brock Lesnar insists that his transition to mixed martial arts will be different. ?I want to try to prove to myself and the fighting world that, yes, Brock Lesnar can be a seriou...
Brock Lesnar - The Road to the Octagon - Part Two - 23 Oct 2007 11:20:04pm
2007-10-24 01:20:00
By Thomas Gerbasi When the news hit the street that Brock Lesnar was about to embark on a career in mixed martial arts, many snickered. Sure, he was a former NCAA Division I National Champion in wrestling, but that was in 2000. This was 2006, and a lot can change in six years. But then some of the sport?s heavyweights, people who actually trained with Lesnar, started chiming in with their thoughts on him and his potential. First there was former UFC champion Pat Miletich, who raved about Lesnar?s raw talent. Next was UFC lightweight champ Sean Sherk, who dubbed him a phenom. ?That cost me a thousand bucks,? laughed Lesnar, but such talk brought expectations along with it, and fight fans were getting patient to see the former pro wrestling star in action in MMA. Some would have crumbled under that type of pressure, both in and out of the gym. ?If people feel like they?re under pressure, it?s only because they put themselves under it,? said Lesnar. ?I didn?t feel any, really. I ...
Brock Lesnar ? The Road to the Octagon ? Part One - 23 Oct 2007 01:15:28am
2007-10-23 03:15:00
By Thomas Gerbasi Despite his status as professional wrestling?s reigning superstar - a man who was on national television weekly, and on the covers of magazines and video games - Brock Lesnar always kept an eye on the world of mixed martial arts ?I can beat that guy,? thought Lesnar more than once as he watched the UFC. And at 6-3 and over 260 pounds, the physical tools were obviously there. But what most didn?t know was that Lesnar had also walked the same road as MMA superstars Mark Coleman, Kevin Randleman, Josh Koscheck, and Mark Kerr, as an NCAA Division I Wrestling Champion. But in 2000, when Lesnar finished his collegiate wrestling career for the University of Minnesota with a list of combined junior college and college accomplishments that included 106 wins against only five losses, status as a four-time All American, two-time Big Ten Champion, a second place finish in the 1999 NCAA Championships, and the 2000 NCAA National Championship, mixed martial arts was far fro...

Brock Lesnar: New UFC Heavyweight Fighter
2007-10-22 16:48:00
The “biggest” news to come out of UFC 77: “Hostile Territory” is the acquisition of heavyweight Brock Lesnar, a four-time Minnesota Golden Gophers All American wrestler and NCAA champion. He’s also a former professional wrestler and NFL dropout with the Minnesota Vikings. At 6′2″ tall, Lesnar is a huge ball of muscle, weighing in the neighborhood of 285-295 pounds. He’ll have some work to do prior to his Octagon debut to come in under the 265-pound division limit. No date or opponent has been named at this time. However, UFC.com mentions that we will see him soon. Here’s a snip from UFC president Dana White on the recent signing:“I don’t think there are any other pro wrestlers that can make the transition to MMA, except for Brock Lesnar. And if you look at his amateur wrestling credentials, his size, and what he’s done, this guy can end up being a force in the heavyweight division of the UFC.” Lesnar has been training mixed martial arts for about two years. And...
UFC Signs Former WWE Champion Brock Lesnar - 21 Oct 2007 10:40:18pm
2007-10-22 00:40:00
By Mike Johnson During the UFC PPV last night, former WWE champion and Wrestlemania XIX main eventer Brock Lesnar was seated in the front row. He was later interviewed by Joe Rogan and introduced as the latest signee for the Ultimate Fighting Championships. Lesnar made his Mixed Martial Arts debut this past summer, defeating Min Soo Kim in only 1:09 of the first round on June 2, 2007 at the K-1 Dynamite USA show in Los Angeles. Lesnar easily took down Kim and pummeled him with strikes for the win. Lesnar, who is expected to fight in UFC's depleted heavyweight division (Heavyweight Champion Randy Couture announced he was leaving UFC last week) told Rogan he was "ready for war". After a monster push that included several WWE title reigns and victories over The Rock, Hulk Hogan, Big Show and main eventing Wrestlemania in his first-ever appearance on the WWE's flagship PPV, Lesnar walked out of the company in 2004 to attempt an NFL career. When he was cut from...
