2008 Free Agents: Defensive Tackles
2008-02-26 03:59:00 The Iggles have an outstanding DT tandem right now. Mike Patterson(when he is not high), and Brodrick Bunkley are both first round picks who really have made an impact on the Bird’s defense. Bunkley saw his first real playing time last year, and made everybody around him better. The Eagles run defense went from 26th(2006), ...
Falcons Focus On Tom Heckert
2008-01-03 03:19:00 Falcons owner Arthur Blank was unable to land Bill Parcels to run his franchise, and has now turned to Eagles General Manager Tom Heckert according to Adam Schefter of NFL.com. Heckert has been an integral part of the Eagles front office for the past seven years, and has brought in many great players to Philadelphia. In ...
Battle For Mediocrity
2007-12-28 19:31:00 This game is truly as meaningless as it gets. Neither team is playing for a playoff spot, nor are they playing for a top draft pick. This is the game for mediocrity. Both the Eagles, and their opponent the Buffalo Bills are 7-8, and trying to at least not finish the season with a losing ...
A Stand To Save A Season
2007-11-12 02:07:00 It was three plays to save a season. Yes, even if the Eagles had lost in Washington this weekend they would have had a chance to make the playoffs, but realistically, every member of the defense knew what was at stake. With its back against its own end zone ? and the wall ? and the Redskins only seven yards away from all but putting the game out of reach, the Eagles defense had to make a stand. Three plays to save a season.Eventually, three plays turned to six. Six snaps from inside the 10-yard line. Six times the Redskins attacked the goal line, trying to put the game ? and maybe the Eagles ? away. Six times, the defense stood firm, setting up Philadelphia's dramatic 33-25 win on Sunday."When all of the odds are against you and you are still fighting, that's character. You develop that when nobody is looking," linebacker Takeo Spikes said. "When you look back at the film you'll see a whole lot of guys doing the little things right and that was the emphasis this week. Doing the li...
Birds Will Stay $12.5 Million Under Cap
2007-11-06 20:51:00 The deadline for NFL teams to sign players and have a portion of their salary count against this year's cap is today at 4 p.m. Unlike previous years, however, the Eagles will not be taking advantage of that rule for a number of reasons. One is that 19 of their 21 starters are signed beyond this season. The only two potential free agents after this season are tight end L.J. Smith and fullback Thomas Tapeh, and it is possible that neither player will be in an Eagles uniform a year from now.Negotiations with Smith had not progressed for some time and had no chance of being renewed once the tight end required two groin surgeries and missed three of the team's first seven games. As for Tapeh, negotiations never began with the fullback.Typically, the Eagles have targeted young players they feel are on the rise to tie up to long-term deals before this deadline. A year ago at this time, they signed defensive end Trent Cole and defensive tackle Mike Patterson to extensions through 2013 and ...
Vikings Preview
2007-10-27 11:34:00 Must Win?:This has been said a lot so far this year. This term gets thrown around a lot, but really a game is never a must win, unless it eliminates you from contention. If the Eagles want to be serious about possibly making the playoffs, then almost every remaining game is a must win. You figure they have to go 7-3 during the remaining ten to do so. Is this possible? Yes it really is. The Birds have to stop stalling in the red zone, and stop giving games away they should have won. Minnesota is a team that a good team should beat.Birds Improved Run D Gets Major Test:One positive of this Eagles season, is the improvements to the defensive front. A run defense that was considered the teams weakness, is now one of the teams strength. Brodrick Bunkley, Takeo Spikes, Omar Gaither, and Chris Gocong are all new starters. They are a huge reason for the run defense being much better. Trent Cole emerging as a premier DE, Jevon Kearse being healthy, and the improved play of Mike Patterson are ... |
