The Battle of the Browsers
2008-05-01 02:37:00 The History and the Future of Internet Browsersby: Nicholas C Smith With Internet Explorer 8 now available, can Microsoft hope to retain market dominance over fierce open source rivals such as Mozilla's Firefox or the feature packed Opera web browser. Can history give us a clue to what the future of web browsers/browsing might hold? How did Netscape Navigator go from having a dominant 89.36% market share of all web browsers in 1996 and yet only 3.76% by mid 1999? Let us take a journey that will begin long before even the intellectual conception of Internet Explorer, that will glance at its long defeated rivals, examine the current browsers available and will end with a prediction of what the future of browsing will offer us ? and which browser(s) will still be around to offer it. People often think that Internet Explorer has been the dominant web browser since the golden age of the internet began. Well for a very long time now it has indeed been the most popular browser and at tim...
PayPal Blocking Old Browsers
2008-04-21 10:00:00 PayPal now is blocking old browsers to prevent phishing attacks were fraudulent mails were sent for their customers. We all know [internet savvy people] that scam, fraud, hoax, hidden catch, and phishing is the latest threat to us users of eBay, PayPal and websites alike. In this way, those persons that have nothing to do with life try to trick us by sending fraudulent mails and letting us sign-up on their services without knowing that the owner of this site and the sender of this message is a $*@!.In our view, letting users view the PayPal site on one of these [older] browsersis equal to a car manufacturer allowing drivers to buy one of their vehicleswithout seatbelts. Thanks for this effort of PayPal to fight phishers, this can make their customers feel more secure and comfortable with their service; satisfaction guaranteed.

PayPal to Block Some Browsers
2008-04-19 19:50:00 PayPal is seriously considering blocking some browsers from accessing its site, according to a paper (PDF) available to shareholders. Titled "A Practical Approach to Managing Phishing," the paper admits that there's no one silver bullet to prevent fraudsters from making money on the Internet. However, authors Michael Barrett, PayPal's chief information security officer, and Dan Levy, the company's senior director of risk management for Europe, say companies could and should start addressing five specific areas: Prevent fraudulent e-mail from getting into users' in-boxesPrevent phishing sites by shutting them downAuthenticate users so that stolen credentials can't be used on PayPalProsecute fraudsters to the full extent of the lawFocus on brand and consumer recoveryOf these, the paper focuses mainly on e-mail prevention and phishing-site blocking. Make IE6/IE7 more usable with The World Browser
2008-03-04 19:43:00 As much as I like FireFox and Safari for Windows there are times when only Internet Explorer will do. This is often the case in corporations where you are either restricted to using IE or there are IT applications that will only run in IE. Personally, I find the IE6/IE7 interfaces annoying to use. Apparently I'm not the only one who feels this way. There are dozens of alternative browsers that use the IE rendering engine with enhanced interfaces. Most of these alternative IE browsers tend to be a bit too busy for my tastes. One notable exception is The World Browser. It's lightweight and makes using IE noticably easier. The skin support allows you to change the look and feel. I particularly like the Safari skin, which is small, quiet and highly usable. Other features include intelligent advertisement/pop-up blocking and better security. So if you're stuck using IE, due yourself a favor and check out this free alternative. It makes IE feel like a real browser. powered by Bloge...

The new "King" of Browsers?
2008-02-22 21:58:00 Back in the day when Elvis could enter the building without turning sideways, coating himself with WD40 and wriggling in, there was a saying, ?500,000,000 Elvis fans can?t be wrong? (based on disputable record sales). Totally valid or not, it?s hard to argue with those types of numbers. The big ?E? has sold a ton of vinyl, tape, and digital media?and still does?from that Heartbreak Hotel in the sky (or spaceship or secret room on the top floor of Graceland if you believe the conspiracy theories.)
