Bad Boy Bubby UK Blu-Ray Release (Special Triple Format 3-Disc Pack)
2009-07-20 16:09:00
Awarded the Special Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival, Bad Boy Bubby with its hard hitting content of deprivation, mental illness and incest, shocked its audiences to become one of the most daring and controversial cult films of the 1990s. Nicholas Hope gives an astonishing performance as Bubby, a demented man-child kept locked for his entire life in a squalid apartment by his depraved mother who uses him for sex. When Bubby who can only communicate by mimicking what others say and do, escapes into the outside world, he soon discovers young women, crime, rock 'n' roll, and pizza. Will this naive 'mad bastard' be destroyed by the realities of our cruel world, or does a higher calling ultimately await him in the most unlikely place of all? Bad Boy Bubby is released uncensored, uncut, the directors version on 3rd August 2009 for the first time in the UK on Blu-ray in a 3-disc box set also containing a DVD version and Digital Copy. Taterisms & a Bubby Blunder
2008-05-18 18:44:00
Last weekend the boys and I were in Oceana, WV (i.e. "home") for Mother's Day. Sunday afternoon there was a tornado watch in effect. Tater told his dad that it was really dark, high winds and lots of rain but he didn't see any funnel cakes in the sky!Tater came home from school one day, unpacked his backpack as usual and then searched the bottom for "something important." He pulled out a little scrap of paper, held it up in the air and announced..... I finally got Madison's phone number! He is his father's child. When his friend's mother asked Tater where his dad worked he replied, "At a hoity-toity grocery store where they play fancy music." She asked what he did there and he told her "Nothing much really. He just walks around all day and straightens stuff." For the record he's as assistant manager at The Fresh Market and says he does do a little more than that each day. While putting lotion on Tater's legs after his shower I asked if he knew what those blue lines were under ...
Our own little Christopher Newport
2008-04-12 16:26:00
The entire 4th grade class at Bubby's school presented Sing to Know Virginia Studies this week. It was a great play about the history of Virginia. Bubby chose to play the part of Christopher Newport. Mr. Newport was a sea captain who founded the Jamestown Colony. It was up to each parent to assemble their child's costume, which was fun to say the least. We found everything that Bubby wore at Goodwill! The entire costume, from head to toe, was only $13. You can't beat that.Bubby did an excellent job and really enjoyed the musical numbers. Singing is his "thing" after all! He even took the time to pose with an adoring fan after the performance.
Happy #11, Bubby!!
2008-03-24 03:50:00
Blowing out the candles on his cookie cake at the mexican restaurantGarrett & Lindsey (his friend) With his new karaoke machine... ...and his new Taylor Swift CD from LindseyTomorrow Bubby will turn 11. I know you've heard it from countless parents before, but it is just so true....... where has the time gone? How in the world can he be 11? My mind has been swirling.... in just five short years he'll be driving. Driving! Then, two years after that, he'll be off to college. College?! Then marriage, kids...... It seems like he grows an inch every night. He's getting more and more mature. He no longer likes Spongebob and Patrick. Now his attention has turned to Taylor Swift and mp3 players. He's interested in girls, one in particular. :) He's a good kid though. It's a pleasure to be him mommy and no longer how old he gets I will insist that he call me that. Happy 11th, birthday Bubby. I hope this truly is your best year ever!
What's up with us?
2008-03-15 20:38:00
Darrin ~ 10 years old Well, to start off with, the boys and I are getting over some kind of yucky crud. Tater started with it the first of the week then passed it on to Bubby. Not wanting me to be left out, they were kind enough to share it with me too. I don't suppose I can say much...after all, I have always taught them to share! Tater ended up coming home from school early on Wednesday and then missing Thursday all together. He had double pink eye. His doctor was gracious enough to just call in eye drops for us since the school nurse had already diagnosed him. You do not know how much of a blessing that was, unless, like us, you do not currently have health insurance. Some things we all just take for granted, you know? Health insurance is one of them. When you have it, it's no big deal. You just go on about every day as usual. When you don't have it, it's a totally different story though. And, the medication that we've used before has always been so expensive, even with insu...
Upward Pictures
2008-03-06 01:56:00
Boy, that was a fast season! The boys have been practicing and/or playing Upward since our move in mid-December and now it's over. They had their "day of celebration" last Saturday. This was Tater's fourth year and Bubby's second. Bubby really came into his own this season. He scored 8+ points every game. He's finally realized that he can use his height (5 feet) and really excel in basketball. Now we're moving on to Little League.P.S. -- click on each picture to enlarge them
The 100th Day of School
2008-02-08 02:05:00
The boys recently celebrated the 100th day of school. They brought home a cute paper relating to this special day that I wanted to share.Tater's answers to "If I had 100..."...dollars I would buy a dirt bike and a four wheeler...pencils I would sell them... mosquito bites I would scratch them...friends I would have a party...legs I would take them off...eyes I would poke them...dirt bikes I would ride them...four wheelers I would ride them...mopeds I would ride them...girlfriends I would sell them (okay, that one worries me a little) Bubby's answers to the same question of "If I had 100..."...dollars I would get a car...pencils I would give some to my friends...mosquito bites I would not be happy...friends I would have them all over for a sleep over...legs I would stay at home...eyes I would be able to see everywhere...books I would read all of them
A Four Day School Week?
2008-02-07 03:40:00
We have been in Virginia for eight weeks now. Since the boys have been enrolled in the Commonwealth of Virginia's school system, they have only attended school four days per week! The first two weeks there was no school because of winter break. The other six weeks have gone as follows: Week of Jan. 1st: They started back to school on Wednesday, Jan. 2nd which made for a 3 day school week Week of Jan. 7th: Off one day for "teacher work day" = 4 day school week Week of Jan. 14: Off one day for a "snow day" = 4 day school week Week of Jan. 21: Off for Martin Luther King, Jr. day = 4 day school week Week of Jan. 28th: Off one day for "inclement weather" = 4 day school week Week of Feb. 4th: Off one day for "parent/teacher conferences" = 4 day school week Week of Feb 11th: Will be off one day because they haven't used all of their snow days = 4 day school week Week of Feb. 18th: Will be off for President's Day = 4 day school week Week of Feb. 25th: Will only go 4 1/2 days because one ...
"The biggest snow I've ever seen!!!"
2008-01-24 19:05:00
Tater Tot was so excited to wake up last Thursday and see snow.....everywhere! "Mama, mama, that's the biggest snow I've ever seen!!," he said. He was only 3 when we left WV so he doesn't remember the mammoth snow we used to get in Morgantown. There would be weeks that we wouldn't even see our grass. Bubby missed entire weeks of school due to the snow. So, needless to say, Tater was anxious to get out and play in the white stuff. He and Bubby spent virtually all day outside. I joined them for the first hour or so and then I had to retreat to the warmth of the house. The were not phased by the cold though. Luckily I had prepared in advance and got them snow suits and boots. That's something I haven't had to buy in a while. We even picked up a new sled at (where else) Dick's Sporting Goods! They went sledding nearby with friends in our neighborhood. Then, it was time for the mandatory snowman building. Santa brought them a snowman building kit for Christmas so we didn't have to...
The catch up post......
2008-01-18 23:14:00
Happy 2008! We had a great New Years. Darrin parents, grandmother and brother were here to ring in the new year with us. Me, Darrin and the boys took our annual New Year picture. We always take a snapshot of ourselves as soon as the ball drops in Times Square. Darrin and I started that tradition our very first New Years together in 1991.Then, on Jan. 2nd, we celebrated Darrin's 38th birthday. Everyone stayed to help us celebrate that too. Bubby frosted the cake and Tater decorated. It was a delicious red velvet cake....his favorite. The next big event was Tater pulling his own tooth! It had been loose for several weeks and he'd been working on it earnestly. He wouldn't let anyone else touch it so he finally just pulled it out himself. He'd lost a tooth last summer but that was because the dentist pulled it. So, since this was the first one that came out on its own, the tooth fairy left him $5! He bought a dirt bike magazine with the money.
Unpacked, moved in and settled......finally!
2008-01-09 05:26:00
We have been in Virginia for three weeks now. All of the boxes are unpacked and the pictures are hung. It definitely feels a lot more like "home" now. The boys went to WV with their grandparents for a week right after we got here. That was such a help. I worked like a mad woman to get everything done before they returned on Christmas Eve. Luckily, I had 99% of it done too. Christmas was different, but nice. This was the first year we didn't have a tree. There was just no time, or room to put one. However, we had plenty of family here for the big day so we didn't even miss the tree. Darrin's parents, grandmother and brother were here along with my mom and step-dad. We had a wonderful time visiting, eating, eating and eating. The boys have been in school for a week now and are adjusting well. At first they didn't like it. Tater Tot said it was "old and rusty." Of course they are comparing it to their old school which was only two years old and was an $11 million fac...
Always My Bubby
2007-12-13 04:34:00
Last night, while I was driving my kids around, Eva was in the back seat sort of “monologuing” as she does sometimes. She got on the topic of having a brother: “Everybody should have a brother or sister. It’s nice.  If they don’t have a brother or sister, they don’t know how fun it is. I love my little brother.” At this, Eli and his mature two-year-old sensibilities piped up. ELI:  (indignant) My not little! My getting bigger! My grow up some day! EVA:  But you’ll still by my little brother. ELI:  My not little! My big! EVA: Noooo. You’ll always be my Bubby. She so rarely calls him “Bubby.” It was one of those precious moments that I just had to take a little mental snapshot of.
Inflatable City
2007-12-05 01:16:00
I recently read about a man that lives nearby that really decorates for Christmas. He has 70 inflatables and countless strands of light. He uses his front yard, backyard and his neighbor's backyard. Bubby has loved in inflatables for four or five years now. He may be to the point of being obsessed with them. He is the proud owner of eight or ten of his own for various holidays. So, I had to take him to see this man's display. It was amazing. We walked through twice. He was even playing the movie "The Polar Express" on his garage door! That's one TALL Santa!Posing for mom One of Bubby's favorites If you can't get enough and are just dying to see more, never fear.....I have more. Go to flickr and check them out. A few of them turned out blurry for some reason but you'll get the idea.
Bubby's First Filling
2007-11-29 00:32:00
Today Bubby received his first filling. He enjoyed watching "Jungle Book" on the ceiling mounted TV while Dr. Smith worked away. He was a real trooper and was totally unaware that he had even been given a shot. Way to go, Bubby!
A Day Trip to Carowinds
2007-11-28 21:36:00
Before Darrin took off for Roanoke with his new job, we took the boys and a friend to Carowinds in Charlotte, NC. We spent an entire day there and we all had a great time. It wasn't overly crowded so there were no long lines to wait in. The weather was just perfect so we didn't burn up either. Tater and his friend, Charlie, were able to ride everything except the two biggest roller coasters. They were fearless, and as always, Bubby was too. The entire park was decorated for "Scarowinds." Scarowinds is something they do every weekend night the entire month of October. It's definitely for the older crowd (teen +). There are ghosts, goblins, monsters, etc. roaming the park along with tons of other scary stuff. So, that's why the fountain in the picture below is red. The first picture I took upon our arrival. Best buds...Tater & Charlie Can you believe that Darrin, Tater, Charlie, and Bubby are on this thing?Posing for mom again. This was taken on our way out of the park after ...
Halloween pictures
2007-11-28 19:40:00
Yes, I'm still catching up.....here are pictures from Halloween. Bubby chose to be a pirate and Tater Tot wanted to be a "dead doctor." In addition to trick-or-treating on Halloween night in our neighborhood, the boys also attended a "fall festival" at church the night before. I wouldn't let Tater wear his "dead doctor" get up to that, so he was a baseball player. Dressed for the Fall Festival at church on Oct. 30th Our sons have grown up to be a pirate and a dead doctor. We couldn't be more proud! A close-up of the dead doctor himself Aaaarrrr Matey, give me your loot!
Decorating pumpkins for Red Ribbon Week at school
2007-11-28 19:18:00
Oct. 23 - 31st was Red Ribbon Week at the boy's school. The PTA always has each classroom decorate a pumpkin in honor of the week. This year's theme was "without drugs the possibilities are infinite." Since I am the homeroom mom for Tater's first grade class and for Bubby's fourth grade class, it was up to me to come up with a design for both classes pumpkins. For Tater's class we painted a fake pumpkin blue to represent the ocean. We then glued on pictures of the continents. I gave each child a boy/girl to color and a star to write down what they'd like to be when they grow up. Our theme was "say no to drugs and reach for the stars." For Bubby's class we decorated another fake pumpkin to look like Albert Einstein. The bubble over his head reflects the PTA's theme for the week. The students all vote on one winner for each grade level. I'm proud to say that our Einstein won for the fourth grade and is still being proudly displayed in Bubby's classroom. We're really proud o...
Bubby sings his heart out
2007-11-28 19:15:00
Bubby is a member of the 4th and 5th grade chorus at school. They recently participated in a local choral festival held at a local church. He was so proud to wear his chorus shirt for the first time. They were the youngest performers there and did an outstanding job. Those early morning practices are really paying off.
Science Circus
2007-10-14 21:42:00
Yesterday I took the boys and a friend of theirs to see the "Science Circus." It was a hoot! They learned about gravity, inertia, air resistance, centripetal force and gyroscopic stability all while being entertained. It was a short, 45 minute show, that was just long enough to keep the kids from getting bored with it. Who knew juggling, Chinese yo-yo's and unicycles could be so educational? Bubby & Tater Tot with their friend He was really good! Watching the showP.S. - We also saw a really cute skeleton made out of milk jugs!
A Sunday Downtown
2007-08-27 04:00:00
The boys with mouse #1My three boys on the trolleyWe spend the day downtown today. We're so fortunate to have such a great downtown! We try to take advantage of it as much as we possibly can too. We started off by eating at one of our favorite places, Sticky Fingers. Then we began out journey to find the "Mice on Main." It start with a bronze statue of a little mouse with the book "Goodnight Moon." They, by following clues, you have to find eight others that are scattered around downtown. Let me tell you, it's no small feat either. Then, we took a nice relaxing ride on the downtown trolley which is always fun. After that, we headed on over to the Children's Garden. It's the cutest little kid's park nestled underneath an overpass about a block off of Main Street. What an excellent use of that space I think. It's full of fun things for kids to enjoy. And, it serves as a great shelter when a thunderstorm rolls in! After waiting quite a while for the storm to pass, we decided to m...
Back to School Time
2007-08-20 22:32:00
Boy, did summer fly by or what? That was the fastest summer I can remember experiencing since I was a kid! The boys started back to school today. Bubby is now a 4th grader and Tater Tot is in 1st grade. Tater was excited and wanted me to walk him to his class. He didn't even mind posing for a few pictures. Bubby, on the other hand, was a harder sell. He informed me that this will be the last year I walk him to class the first day of school. I did manage to snap one picture of him in his new class before he ushered me out the door. They both had a great day and said their teachers are "really nice." Tater said after coming home, "That was fun! I want to go back!!" I informed him that this was his lucky day because he gets to go back tomorrow...and the next day...and the next day.... Bubby's annual "first day of school" poseAnd...Tater's annual pose Bubby in his new class. (pink shirt) Tater at his new desk. Ready to take on the challenge of first grade! A few Tater insights..........
The Kool-aid Gang
2007-07-25 17:56:00
Bubby (in purple) and Tater Tot (in orange) Bubby and his best friend...future entrepreneursThe boys decided to have a kool-aid sale yesterday to earn money to take to the beach. They ended up making about $10. They even managed to recruit their friends to help out by posting signs around the neighborhood.
VBS = FUN
2007-07-21 23:32:00
This afternoon wrapped up the kid's Vacation Bible School. They been going all week and have had a blast. They each took a friend with them this year which doubled the fun. Darrin and I attended their commencement ceremony where they each received a certificate of participation. They it was time to head outside for some fun. This years' VBS theme was "Game Day Central" and the church went all out to carry out that theme. We munched on hot dogs, pop and Cracker Jacks. Then, it was time to dedicate the "new" play ground. The Greenvile Drive donated their old (all of 1 year old) play structure to the church. Some of the Drive officials, players and even Reedy Rip It were on hand to help with the dedication. The kids spent the rest of the day dunking their teachers in the dunk tank, playing basketball, volleyball and so on. As always, it was another successful VBS and best of all, there were 7 decisions for Christ made! Go Team Jesus!! Tater Tot getting his Drive baseall signed Tater...
Flowers for Mama...
2007-07-18 01:17:00
Bubby did the sweetest thing today! He came in the front door holding his hand behind his back. What could he possibly have I wondered. I must say, I was pleasantly surprised. He handed me a colorful bouquet of day lilies. He smiled and said, "These are for you mama." I bent down (not far because he's so dad gum tall) and gave him a peck on the cheek. I asked where in the world he found such beautiful flowers. He said, "Aw the ladies yard up the street" and bolted back out the door. Well, "Lady" if you're reading this....I'm sorry. Just know that they were picked with love, much appreciated and placed directly in water.
Fatz & a little putt putt
2007-07-18 01:11:00
A few nights ago we took our neighbor with us to enjoy one of our favorite restaurants, Fatz Cafe. After a great meal, we headed on over to Frankie's Fun Park for 18 holes of putt putt golf. From what I hear, our neighbor, Rick, won! They were kind enough to let me go next door to Garden Ridge for a little "girl time" while they golfed. Boy, I never knew a round of putt putt could go so quickly. My phone rang a mere 45 minutes after I had dropped them off. They were finished! After paying for my goodies, I picked them up and off we went for a little dessert. Of course that meant Chili's for the best dessert ever....Molten Chocolate Cake. Then, with full bellies we headed for home. After all, it was after 10:00 p.m. and Tater Tot was tuckered out.
Bubby's day at the doctor
2007-07-11 23:29:00
Today was Bubby's 10 year old well child check with his pediatrician. All went well, thankfully. He amazed both the nurse and doctor though. He has grown 5" since his last visit in December. He has also gained 8 pounds since then. He is now 4' 11" and 88 pounds. That puts him in the 86th percentile in height and 83rd in weight. That just seems totally amazing to me. Five inches in seven months? Wow! His doctor, like the two before her, informed me that once he's finished growing he should be well over 6' tall. I explained that so are his uncle and grandfather (on my side). She told Garrett...."you're going to be a giant!" Then, Payton chimed in and said, "and I'm going to be the shrimp!" Unbeknownst to me he also had to get a shot today. I'm really glad he didn't know beforehand though. That way he didn't have time to fret over it. It was his first hepatitis A shot. He'll get his second one in a few months. The funniest part of the visit was seeing the look on Bubby's fac...
Ratatouille Time
2007-07-11 23:21:00
This past Sunday, while Darrin was at work, I took the boys to see Ratatouille. It was actually a pretty cute movie. As always though, Garrett sat spell bound through the entire movie and Payton only lasted about half way through. Once he was full of popcorn and pop he was ready to go! The movie is set in Paris, France. And, in the movie they do as lots of Parisians do and drank wine. I wasn't too pleased with that but I could live with it. Then, later in the movie, the mean chef treats the new chef want-to-be to glass after glass of wine until he is pretty much drunk and willing to tell him what he wants to hear. Now, tell me why? Why do they have to put something like that in a children's movie? It amazes what passes by the sensors and makes it onto movies screens nationwide for our youth to see. I probably won't be buying this movie when it comes out on DVD for that very reason. Of course I don't even think the the boys picked up on it, but still!
Happy belated 4th!
2007-07-11 23:12:00
I know.......I'm a little late posting this, but I still wanted to share. Darrin had to work on July 4th of course. But, at least they closed at 5:00 instead of their normal 6:00! We had a nice family dinner and then made our annual trek down to watch the fireworks. They were awesome as usual. They are sponsored by a church close to downtown. It was twenty minutes of non-stop fireworks action. The boys took turns standing up through the sun roof in my MDX to get a "better view." To see more pictures go to flickr (you'll see a couple from last year too).
Boys night out
2007-06-30 21:00:00
Thursday night hubby took the boys to a Drive baseball game. The Drive is the minor league team of the Boston Red Sox and have been here for two years. It was a perfect night for a game and they had a great time. For more pictures of the night (and last year's game) go to flickr.
Bubby's a singer at heart
2007-06-10 19:49:00
Bubby tried out for the 4th & 5th grade chorus at school a few weeks ago. He loves to sing and would be a wonderful addition to the chorus if I do say so myself. He had to wait until he received his last report card in the mail to see if he made it or not. A few days ago, as I was retrieving the mail from our box, I saw an envelope sticking out that had his school's return address on it. Of course Bubby is at his Nana and Papa's in N.C., but I opened it anyway. Sure enough, it was his report card, which he did great on. Most importantly, however, was a letter from the music teacher! She wasted no time in getting right to the point. It read: "Congratulations! "Bubby" has been selected to become a member of the chorus for the years 2007 - 2008 and 2008 - 2009. In addition to successfully completing the elementary school vocal audition, your child was recommended by classroom teachers and related arts teachers. The teacher evaluation is based on academic achievement along with ou...
The boys are off on vacation...
2007-06-05 19:43:00
The boys and I will be accompanying hubby to Hickory, N.C. tonight. He has a meeting there tomorrow morning. While he's at the meeting Darrin's parents are going to meet me in Statesville to pick up the boys. So, I guess hubby and I are in for a little vacation ourselves. Gee & Paw will be coming to pick up Tater Tot on Friday at Nana & Papa's house. Bubby will get to stay at Nana & Papa's all by himself until June 15th. Tater Tot will get to do the same at Gee's house. They are both in for a week of spoiling I'm sure. They are catered to and can do no wrong at their grandparent's houses. I have no right to say anything really. I used to spend almost every weekend at my Mamaw & Papaw's house. I was treated like a little princess and loved it. I do have big plans while they are gone....I hope to paint Tater Tot's new bed and rearrange his room. I also hope to paint the laundry room and powder rooms. Now remember, that is my plan. Of course hubby and I will have a few...
I Won an Award!
2007-06-01 05:28:00
An award has been given to me. It's not the most coveted of awards, but I have won it nonetheless. "It" is the Worst Mother of the Year award! Bubby's school held an awards ceremony at 9:00 this morning. For the past three years I have always attended this event. Of course I have always been notified prior to the ceremony that Bubby would be receiving an award of some type. This year I received no such notification. Therefore, I did not go. Well, Bubby sadly informed me when I picked him up from school today that he did indeed receive three awards! WHAT?? I was furious. To make me feel even worse he said, "I looked everywhere but I didn't see you. I smiled just in case you were out there somewhere." Talk about breaking my heart. At that very moment I felt like absolutely strangling the life out of his teacher. What wasn't I told. Why wasn't a little note sent home letting me know he was going to be recognized? I immediately called Hubby and told him what had happened. Needless ...

Chris Sligh stopped by for lunch
2007-05-03 07:13:00
Chris & his beautiful wifeLast Friday I was at the boy's school for a few hours. First I read to Bubby's class and then ate lunch with him. After finishing off a rather tasty slice of school pizza, I read to Tater Tot's class. That's the routine every other Friday and I really look forward to it. It usually goes off without a hitch. However, that was not the case this time. Our normally quiet lunch was interrupted when the cafeteria full of children all started clap non-stop. Garrett and I just looked at each other. We were clueless. Then....then it all made sense. Chris Sligh of Americ*n Id*l fame had stopped by. (yeah, he lives in our town!) It wasn't long until he was surrounded by children. He signed a few autographs, posed for a few pictures, and then chatted with the principal. One of Bubby's classmates proudly announced as we were leaving..."I touched him, I touched him!" Bubby couldn't believe that "a real live famous person" was at his school. P.S. - Here's an a...
Easter Sunday
2007-04-13 04:26:00
2001Here's a picture of the boys on Easter Sunday. The picture above was taken when Tater Tot was 1 1/2 and Bubby was 4. Darrin told me not to dress Tater in that suit because he'd never forgive me. But, I think he looks adorable. This year, they picked out their suits, shirts and ties. They wanted to match. They even got new Easter shoes. Since we were in NC at the in-law's, I left the Easter bunny a note at our house. Luckily, he found Nana and Papa's house without any trouble. 2007
Spring Break 2007
2007-04-12 23:59:00
Last week was spring break for our boys. Tater Tot headed to WV for a week of spoiling at Gee and Paw's. Bubby, on the other hand, went to NC to spend some quality time with Nana and Papa.
